Flynn calls looting, beatings in Riverwest barbaric

Shaina Perry remembers the punch to her face, blood streaming from a cut over her eye, her backpack with her asthma inhaler, debit card and cell phone stolen and then the laughter.
"They just said 'Oh, white girl bleeds a lot," said Perry, 22, who was attacked at Kilbourn Reservoir Park over the 4th of July holiday weekend.
Though Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn noted Tuesday that crime is color blind, he called the Sunday night looting of a convenience store near the park and beatings of a group of people who had gone to the park disturbing, outrageous and barbaric.

Calif. Hospitals Spend $1.25 Bil On Illegal Immigrants

While the Obama Administration halts deportations to work on its secret amnesty plan, hospitals across the U.S. are getting stuck with the exorbitant tab of medically treating illegal immigrants and some are finally demanding compensation from the federal government.
The group that represents most of the nation’s hospitals and medical providers recently urged President Obama to work with Congress to reimburse them for the monstrous cost of treating illegal immigrants. Federal law requires facilities to “treat and stabilize individuals” regardless of their immigration status, but federal support for the services remains “virtually nonexistent,” according to a letter submitted by the American Hospital Association to the president.
This week officials in California, the state with the largest concentration of illegal immigrants, joined the call for federal compensation after revealing that hospitals there spend about $1.25 billion annually to care for illegal aliens. The figure skyrocketed from $1.05 billion in 2007, according to California Hospital Association figures quoted in a local news report.
The problem will only get worst, according to officials, who say the $1.25 billion for 2010 could actually be higher. They complain that federal law forces them to treat patients in emergency rooms regardless of immigration status yet they get stuck with the financial burden. This has forced many hospitals to curtail services or close beds and could ultimately compromise healthcare.
Nationwide, U.S. taxpayers spend tens of billions of dollars annually to provide free medical care for illegal immigrants with states that border Mexico taking the biggest hit. Adding to the problem is the fact that Mexico, the country that provides the largest amount of illegal immigrants in the U.S., has long promoted America’s generous public health centers. It even operates a Spanish-language program (Ventanillas de Salud, Health Windows) in about a dozen U.S. cities that refers its nationals—living in the country illegally—to publicly funded health centers where they can get free medical care without being turned over to immigration authorities.

Though Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn noted Tuesday that crime is colorblind, he called the Sunday night looting of a convenience store near the park and beatings of a group of people who had gone to the park disturbing, outrageous and barbaric.
Police would not go quite as far as others in connecting the events; Flynn said several youths "might" be involved in both.
"We're not going to let any group of individuals terrorize or bully any of our neighborhoods," Flynn said.
Perry was among several who were injured by a mob they said beat and robbed them and threw full beer bottles while making racial taunts. The injured people were white; the attackers were African-American, witnesses said.
Store video of the BP station at E. North Ave. and N. Humboldt Blvd. shows the business being ransacked. A clerk at BP confirmed to the Journal Sentinel that he was busy waiting on customers when one or two people held the door open to let others rush in and steal snacks and candy.
Not far away, 20 to 25 friends from Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood had gathered at the park shortly before midnight to watch some fireworks set off by a neighbor. In interviews with 11 people who said they were attacked or witnessed the attack, a larger group of youths appeared in another section of the park around midnight and were joined by more young people running up the park's stairs.
At some point the group of friends and the group of youths intersected; those interviewed said the attack appeared to be unprovoked.
"I saw people dancing and I figured they were just having a good time," said Riverwest resident Jessica Bublitz, 28.
Minutes later Bublitz saw a male friend hit in the temple and fall down. Her fiancé told her to run to safety. James Zajackowski, 28, said things suddenly turned chaotic.
"Within 30 seconds to a minute, bottles were flying and people started getting punched. I was in shock. I thought, 'Really? Is this really happening?' I was on the ground, people were trying to get into my pockets, I could feel their hands but I held on to my cellphone and my wallet," said Zajackowski, a census worker.
Emily Mowrer, 27, was not hurt but saw her friends beaten and punched and full beer bottles thrown at them. Her boyfriend was punched. She saw Perry lying with blood on her face, not moving. She called 911 on her cellphone.
"I saw some of my friends on the ground getting beat pretty severely. They got away with one of my friends' bikes. Some people had their wallets stolen," said Mowrer, who owns a house with her boyfriend in Riverwest. "It didn't seem like it was a mugging - it seemed like an attack. Like they weren't after anything - just violence."
Andy Lange, 29, a social worker who has lived in Riverwest for 10 years, said one of his friends was hit in the head with a bottle and needed staples to close the wound. Lange said he was struck in the face and didn't even see who hit him.
Perry needed three stitches to close a cut above her eye. She said she saw a friend getting kicked and when she walked up to ask what was happening, a man punched her in the face.
"I heard laughing as they were beating everybody up. They were eating chips like it was a picnic," said Perry, a restaurant cashier. "All I remember is seeing bright lights (after the punch), then my backpack was gone and blood was spurting out of my head."
A police spokeswoman on Monday said police received no reports of mobs of people committing crimes in the Riverwest area, only the reports of two armed robberies.
At the Tuesday news conference, Flynn attempted to defuse reports that mobs of youth were running through the Riverwest neighborhood attacking citizens. However, he acknowledged that those responsible for the BP store looting and attacks at Kilbourn Reservoir Park had mob-like characteristics.
"Clearly we had mob-like behavior in the incidents involving the robberies at Reservoir Park as well as the ransacking of the BP station. . . . Certainly we had elements of mob-like behavior that challenged us on July 3," Flynn said.
With an estimated 200,000 people watching the lakefront fireworks, which ended about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, there was heavy traffic in the area as people headed home and police were responding to fights.
The BP was overrun shortly before midnight, and minutes later the attacks occurred in the park. Several people seen on the BP station surveillance video may have been involved in the park beatings, Flynn said.
Two strong-arm robberies were investigated by police at the park, the first at 11:50 p.m. and the second, involving Perry, at 12:15 a.m. Three males - two 16-year-olds and one 18-year-old - were arrested in the first robbery. No arrests have been made in the attack on Perry.
Most of the 11 people who told the Journal Sentinel they were attacked or witnessed the attacks on their friends said that police did not take their complaints seriously. They each said police responded to the scene quickly and tended to the injured, but officers did not take statements from them and told them to leave the area.
"You've got 20-plus people giving eyewitness accounts. I'm very surprised that they said it wasn't a mob," said Mowrer.
Lange said he told an officer about the beatings but noticed the officer didn't write anything down or note his name. Bublitz tried to tell an officer that her three-speed bicycle had been stolen and that one of her friends was hurt but said the officer told her he was looking for evidence.
"About 20 of us stayed to give statements and make sure everyone was accounted for. The police wouldn't listen to us, they wouldn't take our names or statements. They told us to leave. It was completely infuriating," Bublitz said.

Thieves In Chatham Targeting Air Conditioners
CHICAGO (CBS) – Residents of the Chatham neighborhood have been put on notice to keep an eye on their air conditioners.
Thieves have been sneaking into back yards and crawling onto rooftops to steal entire central air conditioning units.
As CBS 2’s Kristyn Hartman learned, a rash of central air theft on the South Side prompted one neighborhood to put out a warning.
One Chatham resident, who asked to be identified only as “Randi” is using not one lock, but three, to protect her new air conditioner after thieves made off with her old one.
Asked if she ever thought someone would walk away with a central air unit, Randi said, “not in my wildest dreams.”
She said whoever stole the air conditioner was obviously very professional, because they didn’t leave any bolts or screws behind and she didn’t hear a thing.
“I’ve just been going door-to-door, letting my neighbors know, look, our air conditioner got stolen. At first, they’re like, ‘You all have central air, what do you mean your air conditioner got stolen?’” “My air conditioner got stolen. So they came by and they’re like, ‘How in the world did they do that? Everyone is in awe.”
She still isn’t certain exactly how they stole the whole thing.
Randi woke up one late June morning to a hot house. Her thermostat wasn’t registering. Out back, all she and her family found was an empty slab.
“We’re just jumping up and down, like, no, no,” she said.
Her warnings definitely helped.
When a neighbor checked on his unit, he found it prepped for theft.
“Two of his bolts were unscrewed and his Freon lines were cut,” Randi said.
Turns out central air conditioning units are a hot commodity with thieves.
There’s word of a central air theft spree in the Chatham neighborhood on everyblock.com, a neighborhood news blog.
Chicago police said it’s an ongoing problem that’s affected the whole city for awhile now.
But Bernard Azrikam of The Price is Right Heating and Cooling said he’s seen a spike in such thefts of late.
“It’s happening a lot more than I’ve ever seen before … in three to six months,” he said.
Zzrikam believes it’s a sign of tough money times.
Theives who take the whole unit, which can weigh about 125 pounds, are looking to sell the copper and aluminum coil inside.
So Randi and some of her neighbors have cage protection now for their A/C units.
“I just can’t afford for someone to come and take it again,” Randi said.
Insurance covered some of the cost to replace the air conditioner, but the total cost of the cage and the new air conditioner was about $1,500 for Randi
And to think, our expert said the thieves only get about $25 for their haul.
Professionals advise to lock up air conditioners and the disconnect box to make the unit harder to steal.

LIBERTY, Texas (AP) — More than a dozen men accused of taking part in a series of sexual assaults on an 11-year-old girl are expected in court Wednesday in a case that has divided and horrified their southeast Texas town.
The 14 men, who along with five juvenile boys are facing charges, are scheduled to be in a state district courtroom in Liberty for status updates. The investigation began in December, after one of the girl's friends told a teacher he had seen a lurid cell phone video that showed the girl being raped in an abandoned trailer.
Authorities say the girl was assaulted on at least five occasions, sometimes by as many as seven or eight young men or boys at a time, from mid-September to early December in Cleveland, a small city about 45 miles northeast of Houston. The suspects range in age from a middle-school student to a 27-year-old, and include two star athletes at the local high school as well as adults with criminal records.
Most of the adult suspects face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, while four face a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Most have pleaded not guilty and are free on bond, while one, 26-year-old Marcus Porchia, was charged after his arrest with sexually assaulting another girl in an unrelated case.
The case shined a sometimes unflattering spotlight on Cleveland after some in the town of about 9,000 residents suggested the girl was culpable in part for what happened, claiming she wore makeup and looked older. Some also accused her parents, immigrants from Mexico, of not watching her more closely. Those suggestions were sharply criticized by many Cleveland residents and by community and religious groups outside the city.
Also complicating the case was a belief by many in the predominantly black neighborhood where several of the suspects live that the arrests were racially motivated. All of the suspects are black, while the girl is Hispanic.
The girl, now 12, remains in foster care as her parents, who have health problems and moved out of Cleveland after receiving threatening phone calls, work with state child welfare authorities to get her back.
A gag order is preventing those connected to the case from commenting.
Authorities began investigating after the girl's friend told a teacher he had seen a video that had been passed around among classmates that showed the girl being attacked. Police determined it was recorded inside a mobile home on the city's northern outskirts.
The girl told investigators she was raped Nov. 28, first at a house near the mobile home and then at the trailer. Indictments allege she also was assaulted in September, October and December.

7 dead in Grand Rapids shootings; police hunt for suspect Rodrick Shonte Dantzler

Police in Grand Rapids say that seven people were shot and killed at two locations on Thursday and they are actively searching for suspect Rodrick Shonte Dantzler.
Police say three people, reportedly two women and a 10-year-old girl, are dead at one scene, and four others were killed at a separate scene about two miles away, reports CBS affiliate WWMT.
According to a local station, another man was shot in what police believe is a related incident, but was not killed.
The shootings stemmed from a domestic issue, reports The Grand Rapids Press.
Police say they are searching for the 34-year-old Dantzler. Dantzler is described as a black male, about 6-feet-2-inches tall, weighing 265 pounds with a large, muscular build, dreadlocks, and tattoos all over his body.
Dantzler is believed to be driving a cream Lincoln Towncar, Michigan plate BWK-2308.

DALLAS - The upkeep and cleanliness of Sam Farah's convenience store could rival any in North Dallas.
"You don't think this store is in Oak Cliff," Farah said proudly of his investment.
But, crime is crippling his investment.
"Shoplifting is killing me," Farah added. "Shoplifting is killing me."
He said it costs him about $3,000 a month.
With 16 surveillance cameras inside and out, he has the video to prove it. Last week, a mob of people descended on his store all at once after midnight .
"They start trashing the store [and] eating," Farah said while watching surveillance video of the incident. "It's like they're robbing the store."
While several paid, the rest ate, drink and stole before police could get there, Farah said.
"We had to clean up for two hours," he said. "Plus, merchandise is gone. A bunch of merchandise is gone."
Farah estimated he lost up to $500 that night.
Shoplifting is common. Farah shared one clip from earlier this year that showed a man stealing a package of incense from a stand by the front door then running through the parking lot.
Customers have also attacked employees, according to video reviewed by News 8.
Plus, cashiers are seeing more counterfeit money. Someone passed a $100 bill recently that had a watermark of Abraham Lincoln, meaning it's really a $5 bill.
But someone apparently bleached Abe away and reprinted it with Ben Franklin and $100 markings.
Part of Farah's problem, officers said, is that three large apartment complexes are nearby his store.
Dallas police said officers have responded to 26 calls for help from his store this year, most coming within the last month for crimes like shoplifting, disorderly conduct and even aggravated assault.
DPD has made seven arrests. But, Farah wants zero tolerance and even posted a "Wall of Shame" outside his store that shows crooks his cameras caught.
"I worked hard," Farah explained. "I worked very hard to cut down on these crimes. I want somebody else to work with me."
Farah is spending money to build a restaurant, barber shop and cell phone store next door. He said he can't afford to hire off-duty police now, and short of keeping customers out or closing at dusk, he's beginning to wonder whether it's really worth investing in south Oak Cliff.
On Sunday, another store owner was murdered across the street from Farah's property. Police arrested one suspect and are still looking for two others.
Despite problems at Farah's store, Dallas police said crime in this part of town is declining. The rate is down 4 percent this year compared to last.
Overall, since Dallas police opened the South Central Station in 2007, a lieutenant said crime is down 38 percent.

Minority Feelings and Violent Facts

What is the most important thing about mobs of black teens attacking and seriously injuring innocent pedestrians and businesses? The feelings of teenagers who share the race of the attackers, according to Chicago's local CBS affiliate.
That's right: Mobs of teenagers have unleashed terror in the streets of Chicago and other cities in "flash mobs," and the best thing CBS in Chicago has to say about that is that black teenagers are worried about racial profiling.
George Orwell would shudder after reading this headline: "Some Worry Mob Attacks Are Encouraging Racial Profiling." In the story, a journalist interviews young black teens hanging out at North Avenue Beach, the scene of one of the mob attacks. We learn that some in this group "feel targeted as potential troublemakers because of recent attack mobs in the city." No one is alleging that profiling has occurred as a result of the flash mobs, just that it might, and that possibility bothers some teenagers. That's the subject matter of an entire news story in our post-racial America.
The subjective opinions of black teens matter as much as those of all other teens. But do those feelings matter enough to warrant a news story? Compare the triviality of that story with the full scope of flash mob attacks in Chicago:
In early June, witnesses reported that "gangbangers" were pushing people off their bikes at a Chicago beach. One witness told NBC local that "[t]hey were being rude and abusive and throwing trash around and defecating" and beating people. Also, in just one weekend in early June, twelve attacks involving large groups of "young men" were reported. These attacks in the normally placid North Side gained attention. The chosen victims: a 68-year-old white doctor, a 34-year-old white insurance salesman, a Thai man, a Filipino nursing student, and a 42-year-old Japanese doctor. All were either beaten, robbed, or both. Those arrested: three young black men, a fact we only know because of mugshots since it is the official policy of the Chicago Tribune to censor the race of criminal mobs in its journalism, if not its commentary section.
These attacks might just seem like fun and games, but now some of the attackers are armed. In two incidents the first weekend in June, 8 to 15 teens boarded a bus without paying and "began hitting people," according to the Chicago Tribune. Three of those teens are charged with armed robbery, one with unlawful use of a weapon. A week later, a boy with no race was attacked by "a group of seven male teens," all "black," according to news reports, and one with a handgun.
There were also flash mob robberies in January 2011 when mobs of teens raided and robbed at least three stores. In February, Loyola University Chicago warned students and staff about "flash mob offenders" stealing from retail stores near campus. In April 2011, a group of 70 "youths" invaded a McDonald's and "created a disturbance" according to a news report. So there is a troubling trend towards mob violence perpetrated by black teens. Despite all of this, of all the topics CBS Chicago could have chosen, they chose to ruminate about the feelings of young black teens.
The problem with the CBS story is that there will be no corresponding story about victims' feelings. There certainly will be no similar story about the subjective opinions of non-blacks regarding predominantly black mobs. It's not just that there is a double standard; it's that there is a suffocating level of deception involved in these news stories.
How did we reach the point where the only group whose feelings need to be consulted are minorities? Liberalism. Part of liberalism is the notion that minorities need special help, attention, and heightened sensitivity. Along with that, liberalism promotes white guilt and the peculiar desire to "help people" at any cost. The result is that the media gives credence and coverage to mere feelings when real people are being attacked. Of course, the worse the violence gets, the more sensitive we'll have to be. The flash mobs and mob attacks will require the utmost sensitivity from us, as they are only going to increase. They've already occurred in Atlanta, Kansas City, Boston, Nashville, Charlotte, St. Paul, Minnesota, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, Columbia, South Carolina, and even in Iowa on what was called "beat whitey night."
We face the nightmarish reality of low-level ethnic conflict. If these violent mob attacks worsen, they will be a precursor to severe racial tension. These flash mobs already constitute the worst acts of racist violence in recent American history. Now, how do we go from that reality to a story about black teens' feelings? The answer is that society has twisted priorities about race and social responsibility. Given the white guilt saturation that young people receive in our educational system, it's easy to see why the media would give such frivolous treatment to flash mobs. One of the great successes of modern liberalism is that it has constrained our public debate about racial issues. A sheep-like media, craven politicians, and thoughtless academics have all failed in their duty to grapple with this social problem. With enough layers of guilt piled upon us, we can't even see the problem staring us in the face. The media is creating an atmosphere of passive ignorance towards racial violence, and that ignorance places all of us at risk.
If there was this level of racial tension and violence in a situation where the races were reversed, there would be a nationwide clamor for healing, compensation, and awareness. Instead, we're treated to sappy stories about teenagers' feelings. "Some Worry Mob Attacks Are Encouraging Racial Profiling," says the news. One waits for the article entitled "Some Worry Mob Attacks Are Encouraging Anti-white Violence."

And now the myth of the viability of a one parent household, along with the Democrat’s profferred notion that a welfare check is as admirable as a paycheck, has led us to this critical point in our nation’s history. Mobs of inner city youths, predominantly black, have taken to using social media to coordinate violent attacks on an unsuspecting public of ALL races, and if old media has its way the public will remain unsuspecting.
Yes, black.
They've already occurred in Atlanta, Kansas City, Boston, Nashville, Charlotte, St. Paul, Minnesota, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, Columbia, South Carolina, and even in Iowa on what was called "beat whitey night."
Attempting to mask this reality through disingenuous political correctness does not make the truth any prettier, though this will not prevent our deceitful media from trying their damndest.
This is not a racial issue. Fear of being called racist by the real racists cannot be allowed to foster silence and inactivity. Beware the accusers for often they are guilty of what they accuse others. Never is this more in evidence than when liberals in Washington and the media shout cries of racist at others.
LBJ was wrong. His Great Society’s War on Poverty and the enabling government programs it gave birth to have served only to ensure the battle will rage in perpetuity.
Benjamin Franklin was right. “I observed that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves.”
The Democrats seized on Franklin’s concept and perverted it as means to their own end, enacting deviously designed social entitlement programs not to give aid to those in need but to provide job security to the liberal overseers. The modern day plantation owner does not give orders, he gives stump speeches. Liberal politicians substitute dependency for chains. They count on the very group they pretend to protect to be ignorant, to not see they are being used to pick candidates instead of cotton. The by-product of this devolvement is the urban mob of today.
The Have-nots have declared war on the Haves.
It is only natural - the culture of dependency digresses to the culture of entitlement, which in turn caves to the culture of decadence.
The cracks are visible.
Will we, as a nation, repair them, or ignore them until the dam bursts at the seams and we’re left with roadside Apocalypse?
Franklin also said, “When people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the Republic.” He was right, again. The people have found it, within the vote for the Democratic Party, the party that desires to utilize social justice and entitlement programs to propagate a society of poor people, their own personal flock of sheep.
But the sheep have turned wolf.
And the Republic suffers for it . . .

Great article...Pathetic liberal media won't even mention this "Flash mob" thing . As the economy sinks even further, these attcks will only increase. I feel bad for people who live in cities where it's illegal to carry a weapon.

I am black myself, and when I worked the overnight at store24(like a 7/11) in New Haven, connecticut, by Yale, on the weekends I would have to deal with these flashmobs of black teens who seemed entitled to take whatever they wanted and loot the store. This was in the 80s! What can you do against a mob of , say, 50 people? Nothing. This whole thing sucks! And the media seems to look the other way. Shame.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Minneapolis mother is looking for the public’s help in finding a mob of teenage girls that she says assaulted her family.
The attack happened Thursday afternoon inside Folwell Park on Minneapolis’ north side.
Shawnee Twiet says she was in and out of consciousness when the attack happened.
“As soon as I hit the ground, I just started feeling just everything coming from everywhere,” Twiet said. “I mean blows coming from the back of my head. I felt somebody grabbing the back of my hair.”
She suffered a black eye, bruises all over her body and imprints on her back.
Twiet says she was not the original victim; her two daughters were targeted first. Twiet says the group blamed her daughters for taking a pair of sunglasses.
Twiet’s 15-year-old called home after she said she was threatened by the group. Twiet then made the three-block journey to Folwell Park.
Twiet said when she arrived at the park she saw a woman and some teenage girls crossing the street. She also saw her 15-year-old walking toward her, but she noticed that her 4-year-old daughter was missing.
Twiet then called 911 and screamed for her 4-year-old daughter.
While she was on the phone, Twiet saw her 4-year-old in the distance. She also saw a group of teenagers coming toward her.
“Not more than three feet from me she gets to me, and I got hit in the back of my head,” Twiet said.
The attack had started.
Still on the phone with police, Twiet gave them a description of the teenager who was hitting her.
“As soon as I picked up my daughter, I got hit two more times in the back of my head, which threw me forward,” Twiet said.
During the attack, Twiet was able to protect her 4-year-old.
Twiet says when police arrived at the scene, nobody wanted to come forward to tell them what had happened.
“Nobody wants to say which way anybody went,” Twiet said. “You know this was all over a pair of sunglasses that could have been replaced.”
Twiet’s 15-year-old suffered a swollen nose and a busted blood vessel in her eye. Her four year old has a bruise on her leg and a contusion on her head.
Twiet, however, does not want to see the teenagers that she says assaulted her family behind bars. She wants an apology.
She also wants the young ladies to perform community service, so they can learn to help others, instead of hurt them.
Police say there were witnesses to the beatdown, but no one has said who is responsible. Police are still investigating the incident.
If you know who might be responsible, call police.

Those shootings beginning Sunday evening added to a weekend violence toll that earlier included at least two deaths and 11 woundings by gunshot.

I think civil rights activists like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are making a big mistake. They have shown a lack of leadership when it comes to acknowledging the bad behavior of some of the people in the black community. I know there are a lot of blacks that do not associate with these mobs and criminal elements in the black community. Unfortunately the criminal, guy-like behavior of some blacks is helping reinforce the negative stereotype blacks have been labeled with. Instead of addressing this issue these cowardly black leaders ignore it completely. What will come in the future if these trends continue is a race war and the blacks will lose out big time in the USA. All it takes is one major event that escalates out of control.
It is in the best interest of black leaders to show leadership and hold their own community accountable when they do harm to others.

Great Post. If I was an articulate Black guy, I would lecture at schools every chance I'd get. I would speak out against emulating the Thug lifestyle. I would hold community meetings with parents..I'd...wait a minute..who am I kidding...Unless I lectured on "The Evils of the White Man"..they'd only laugh at me. I guess there's no hope...no one wants to hear the truth.

The Knockout Game: Racial Violence and the Conspicuous Silence of the Media

By now, almost everyone has seen one of the semi-amusing videos of black teen mobs rampaging through a store. Maybe we've even seen the non-amusing pictures of the victims, or heard their stories. Most Americans have heard of recent violent "flash mobs," which are the bands of black teens that attack mostly white victims and white businesses, as even the New York Times once noted.
But the flash mobs, which are more accurately called "race riots" or "racial mob violence," are not the only interesting topic to cover in our national conversation about race. There is also the "knockout game," which is stunning in its brutal simplicity and stark racial significance.
The knockout game involves "unprovoked attacks on innocent bystanders," according to police who have had to deal with it. A retired officer explained, "Normally it was a group of black males, one of which would strike him as hard as he could in the face, attempting to knock him out with one punch," says retired Sgt. Don Pizzo. The victims are typically not robbed, but simply punched with no provocation. Such attacks have been reported in Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, and New Jersey.
The knockout game has claimed at least one life so far. In St. Louis this year, 72-year old Hoang Nguyen was walking with his wife, Yen, when four "young people" attacked. The attacker pushed the old man's face to the side to make a "clear target for his fist," recalled his wife. Nguyen was punched so hard that he fell to the ground and struck his head. Then the attacker turned on Nguyen's 59-year-old wife, punching her so hard that she suffered a broken eye socket. She could only watch as her husband was then kicked repeatedly. Hoang succumbed to his injuries later that day. A young black male, 18-year-old Elex Murphy, is charged with first-degree murder.
In addition, a mob of young black males can be seen playing the game here. The video shows the group attacking a young white man named Adam Taylor, who was left with internal bleeding, bruising of the brain, severe whiplash, and scratches on his face when he was beaten in Columbia, MO in 2009.
Sgt. Pizzo noted that the attacks fit a pattern: "black attackers on a white victim -- and the victim was often an older person walking alone." In a thorough and sensible piece on the subject in a local arts and entertainment magazine, eight of the victims interviewed were white, one was black, and one was Latino. All of the attackers, or "players," were black. Some witnesses claim that they have white relatives who play the game and that therefore the game is not a racial issue. But anyone who reviews the reporting -- when race is revealed, at least -- will see that the attackers are predominantly if not exclusively black.
As one player of the game says, "[w]e used to walk to where a lot of people be at and hit 'em. If one of the homeboys didn't knock him out, then the other would come. Whoever knock him out would be king."
Local media outlets have failed to report on the racial aspect of the attacks. At best, the media will allow the race of attackers to be revealed by mugshots, or quotations from police or victims. This follows a conscious policy of self-censorship that has been openly admitted by major newspapers.
A New York Times editor says that his paper will report on race "only if it's relevant to the story" or if readers would "learn something" from the description. The Chicago Tribune's editor, Gerould Kern, explains his paper's "approach" to concealing the truth: "We do not reference race unless it is a fact that is central to telling the story." Of course, no guilt-ridden white liberal editor will ever admit that race is relevant, unless of course a white is attacking minorities. The Los Angeles Times explains that the media will not report race because they don't want to "unfairly stigmatize racial groups." The Washington Post ombudsman openly admits that the Times's staff "worried about hyping a story that involved race" when blacks brawled on the Metro. Instead of stigmatizing racial groups, the liberal media prefers to condemn minorities via low expectations and preferential, secretive reporting -- which only creates a cloud of ominous suspicion over the race issue. But at least racial groups aren't being stigmatized.
A senior reporter from the Houston Chronicle admits, "We don't ever include race normally -- unless race is made an issue by other people." In other words, if racial interest groups make something of the issue, race will become part of the story. And we all know which racial groups advocate on their own behalf, and which one doesn't.
The liberal media policy of resolute silence about race and crime may strike a reasonable observer as troubling, given the violence and obvious racial aspect of the knockout game and flash mob attacks. The net effect of this Orwellian reporting is to place minority feelings above the public interest in safety. For those of us who are curious about our society and group behavior, who should be able to rely on the professional media, the reporting is worthless.
When the liberal media does touch on the topic of race and flash mobs, it is only to condemn conservative blogs for mentioning race at all. The Village Voice, for instance, thoughtlessly dismisses the concerns about racial mob violence, reasoning that because crime is falling, racial mob violence shouldn't be criticized. The progressive tendency will be to define these stories as isolated incidents -- it is easy extrapolate a social problem, but that could be misleading in the big picture.
But the knockout game must be seen in the context of black-on-white violence in America. The big picture is that black-on-white violence is a social problem that deserves more attention, regardless of whether the overall crime rate is rising or falling. Department of Justice statistics show that 33% of white murder victims are killed by a non-white, while only 8% of black murder victims are killed by a non-black1. Even greater disparities exist in violent crime and robbery2.
Some of those who work with these kids blame boredom and the kids' need to prove their toughness. Those causes will be present for a long time, thus the problem will remain. Moreover, the problem will predictably get worse, as some of the mobs are armed.
Nguyen will not receive the same attention as Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. After all, Hoang was not the victim of white hatred, so he is not a household name...but he should be.

I was beaten, taunted for being white, Bronx man says after subway attack

A Bronx man was viciously assaulted and robbed on a subway train Sunday by four men who he says taunted him for being white.
Police confirmed they are investigating the assault and robbery of Jason Fordell, 29, but have not labeled it a hate crime.
They are seeking the four assailants, who fled the scene. A fifth passenger who police say spontaneously joined in the attack has been arrested.
"Everyone on the train was egging them on," said Fordell, 29, of the early-morning attack on the 4 train. ..."

"People started saying stupid little comments - cracker this, white boy this, f----t this," Fordell said. "I told them the only reason they were saying this is there was four of them and one of me."
"I'm a small, little white kid with long hair," he added. "They got guys three times my size threatening me."
As the train continued into the Bronx, the confrontation became physical, he said.
"I was in a headlock, punched and kicked on the floor," Fordell said.
Then a passenger decided to join in - declaring, "Oh, I get a few shots, too," before kicking and punching Fordell in the head, according to cops.
When Fordell finally left the train at his Fordham Road stop, his original attackers snatched his bag and ran. Inside was $2,900 worth of merchandise, cops said.
Fordell chased the men to the token booth downstairs, where two of them pummeled him while the others escaped with the bag.
By the time cops responded, all four men had fled. But Fordell pointed out the straphanger who had joined in the beating, cops said.
Police arrested Barminthe Ramoutar, 54, of Bushwick, Brooklyn, and charged him with felony gang assault and robbery. ..."

Family, friends and co-workers Saturday mourned the loss of a UGA graduate killed in a Midtown shooting spree, while her alleged assailant waived his rights to appear before a Fulton County magistrate.
Nkosi Thandiwe, 22, remained in the Fulton County Jail, charged with first-degree murder in a lunchtime triple shooting that left Brittney Watts, 26, of Decatur dead and two other women wounded Friday. The shooting occurred in a parking deck at 14th Street and Crescent Avenue.
Thandiwe's next court appearance is July 29 at 9 a.m. at the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta.
Grief-stricken relatives reached at a Roswell home Saturday had little to say about Watts' death. Two women who answered a door at the home, where vehicles lined the street, would only say "no comment" before retreating back into the house.
But a glimpse of her life was detailed on the wedding website The Knot. According to her posting in 2008, Brittney Fox, her maiden name, grew up in Roswell and attended Roswell High School, where she was a cheerleader and played tennis. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2007 with a degree in advertising and sociology.
She met her husband, Brian Watts, while attending Roswell High and they married on Hilton Head Island in 2008. He played basketball for Roswell High but had graduated and was attending UGA and playing hoops for the Bulldogs when they met. Brian Watts graduated from UGA in 2005 with a degree in real estate and went on to receive a master’s degree in business-entrepreneurship.
Watts was a digital planning supervisor for 22squared at the time of her death. According to Linkedin, she joined the company in 2008 as a digital media planner. Before joining 22squared, she was an interactive media planner for Fitzgerald & Co. in Atlanta. Her wedding post also cited her stint at Fitzgerald & Co., which offered its condolences in a Twitter posting Friday.
Her online posting on The Knot said Brittney Watts enjoyed wine tasting, reading, shopping, and music.
Details about her alleged killer, however, were more sketchy.
Efforts to reach the family of Nkosi Thandiwe also were unsuccessful Satruday, but at least one neighbor where he lived recently in southwest.Atlanta recall a “respectful” man.
Gloria Butler, who lives across the street from a home on West Manor Lane where Thandiwe once lived, said she last saw him in September when he came over to offer his condolences on the death of her mother. “He was just a very respectful young man.”
But another elderly neighbor who lived next door recalled that occupants of the home would occasionally fired guns into the air in the back yard. That neighbor did not want to be identified.
Neither neighbor could say whether the suspect still lived in the brick house, which wasn’t as neat on the outside as other homes in the community.
A detention officer at the jail said Thandiwe's father, who was not identified, appeared for Saturday's hearing but left the jail without comment. A man leaving lashed out at the news media trying to question him.
Thandiwe's lawyer, Rickey Richardson, did not comment on why his client waived his right to Saturday's hearing. Bond has not been set in the case.
Thandiwe turned himself in late Friday afternoon, police said. He was charged with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
The shooting occurred shortly before noon Friday. Police say Thandiwe, a security guard at the Proscenium building, was hired to protect the building where the three victims worked.
Authorities said Watts encountered the gunman as he lay in wait on the third floor of the parking deck. He fired one shot, hitting her in the neck, then got into her Toyota Prius and drove away.
Police issued an area-wide lookout for the car, including a license plate number described by witnesses, and for a man matching Thandiwe's description.
Maj. Keith Meadows, head of Atlanta Police Department's major crimes division, said investigators believed the gunman was waiting for Watts.
As the gunman exited the parking garage, he fired several more shots, hitting Lauren Garcia, a 23-year-old intern for Midtown public relations firm the MSL Atlanta, and her co-worker, Tiffany Ferenczy, 24. Police believe they may have been random victims.
Rod Wright, Ferenczy's father, told Channel 2 Action News his daughter was going to have lunch with a group of co-workers when gunfire exploded on Crescent Street.
"All of a sudden, the car came out [of the garage entrance],” Wright said. “The car was blocked and the next thing you know, the guy comes out of the car and started shooting. That's when two of the victims got shot … my daughter and the other girl."
What followed was pandemonium, witnesses say.
Meredith Smith ran into the parking deck for cover when the shooting began.
"We were crossing the street and we heard a ‘pop, pop, pop, pop' and we ducked for cover inside the garage," Smith said. "When we came out, we saw a lady laying face-down in the middle of the street."
John Kupersmith, who works at Tin Lizzy's, heard the gunshots from the restaurant’s patio. He said rather than driving people inside, the shooting brought more people out of the nearby buildings.
“I was seating tables when I heard four to five gunshots in quick succession,” Kupersmith said. “Everybody went to look. I came out and stuck my head out onto Crescent. There was a pretty big group of people on the street.
“And a lot of people were surrounding the lady who was face-down on the ground.”
Garcia lay in the street, a bullet wound in her back, her purse and shoes strewn out across the ground in front of the entrance to the parking deck.
Ferenczy was hit in the leg.
"We're very fortunate," Wright said of his daughter. "[She was] shot in the calf ... she's going to be OK."
Ferenczy was relased from a local hospital, said Wright. She was back at her Atlanta home Sunday morning, he said.
"She's doing good," Wright said. "Her leg is sore, but she's doing good. We definitely expect a full recovery."
Watts was found in the parking deck dead, a single shot to her neck, police said.
"We are deeply saddened by today's unimaginable tragedy and the loss of Brittney Watts," said Julianna Bowman, a spokeswoman for 22squared, the Midtown marketing firm where Watts worked. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Brittney's loved ones, MSL group and MSL's employees who were injured today."
Investigators are looking at whether the gunman was a disgruntled employee who targeted Watts.
"It was a pretty bold move of him to shoot so many people in the middle of the day," Meadows said.
AlliedBarton Security Services confirmed that Thandiwe had worked for the company a little less than a year. The company said it conducted a thorough background screening under the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s security personnel clearance requirements, and Thandiwe's background check revealed no prior incidents.
The stolen Prius was recovered in southwest Atlanta, police said.
Police blocked off traffic along 14th street between Peachtree and West Peachtree streets and from 14th to 13th streets shortly after the lunchtime shooting until about 4 p.m., and patrons parked at the parking deck weren't allowed to remove their cars until then.
Businesses adjacent to the parking deck saw their lunch crowds thin as few people could reach the restaurant on Crescent if they weren’t already at one of the establishments, owners said.
Investigators are reviewing video footage from surveillance cameras inside the parking deck, and perched atop street lights and traffic lights at the intersection of 14th and Crescent and along Crescent.

DENVER -- Police are trying to identify a gang of men who are beating couples with baseball bats and robbing them in downtown Denver.
Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said there have been two attacks, each involving the robbery of a couple leaving restaurants or bars at closing time.
Just before 2 a.m. on July 16, a couple was walking home from a restaurant-bar near East 10th Avenue and Pennsylvania Street when they were surrounded by a group of men, according to a police report.
Two men wielding baseball bats hit the man and woman in the head, "causing major bruising and swelling," the report said. Then a robber grabbed the woman's purse.
The man and woman were transported to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment, police said.
On June 26 near 1000 Broadway, a couple was in an alley near their vehicle when a group of men walked up and "assaulted them with a baseball bat and demanded money," a police report said. The robbers grabbed the woman's purse and ran to a waiting car, police said.
The attackers are “not nice people," Jackson said.
Police describe the attackers as four to five black men, ages 18 to 21 years.

This past weekend, a former mayor had his business vandalized and another community leader got beat up in Center City Park.
"One of the teenagers came up from behind and just punched me in the back and kicked me and knocked me to the floor. Then, he just continued to kick me, punch me, step on me. People were screaming," Mitchel Sommers, executive director of the Community Theatre of Greensboro said.
The swarm came from nowhere and the beating lasted seconds.
"Within a minute, I'd say, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds...I'm not being dramatic...hundreds of young people...just came descending upon this area," he said. "There were so many young people. I would say all the way from across Elm Street all the way to the park. You couldn't even get out of the swarm of young people."

Family Shot While Helping Oakland Homeless

A family trying to do some good work was shot overnight in Oakland.
Oakland police responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of 47th at 12:33 a.m. and found at least two shooting victims inside a van.
Police said a man and a woman were with their two young children and were handing out food to the homeless when they were shot. Police said the family had just pulled to the side of the road when an unknown suspect pulled up alongside them and opened fire on their van.
The family lives in East Oakland and often handed out food at night. People who know the family said most of the time the father went alone on these kind of trips, but last night he had his wife and two children with him.
Police said the woman's injuries were considered minor, but the man suffered a life threatening wound and remains in critical condition at an area hospital Wednesday.

According to witnesses, a group of anywhere from 30 to 100 young black men descended on the Wisconsin State Fair last night, beating fairgoers and looting carnival games, in what witnesses said were racially-motivated attacks, Milwaukee's WTMJ reports.
One witness named Eric, an Iraq veteran, said the attacks reminded him of war:
"I had a black couple on my right side, and these black kids were running in between all the cars, and they were pounding on my doors and trying to open up doors on my car, and they didn't do one thing to this black couple that was in this car next to us. They just kept walking right past their car. They were looking in everybody's windshield as they were running by, seeing who was white and who was black. Guarantee it."
Another witness, Norb Roberts, corroborated that: "We were just like cattle being herded out of the park, and they were picking and choosing who they wanted to beat on," he said.
Officials have not yet given an estimate of how many attackers were involved or how many fairgoers were injured.
Police and fair security officials were present at the time of the attacks, but not in sufficient numbers to stop the mob. Also, the Wisconsin State Fair Park Police only have jurisdiction within the fairgrounds, complicating efforts to bring the situation under control.

DETROIT (WXYZ) - It was a deadly night in the city of Detroit. From 6:00 am Friday, August 12th to 6:00 am Saturday, August 13th, a total of fifteen people were shot in the city. Six of those victims died at a total of 9 separate shooting scenes.
Mayor Dave Bing's office released the following statement:
"Reducing violent crime is our number one priority. Chief Godbee and the men and women of the Detroit Police Department are working around the clock to bring these criminals to justice. Our community must continue to work with us to stop this kind of violence. Every resident deserves to be safe and feel safe in their neighborhood."

Kansas City Mayor Sly James vowed Sunday that he’d take steps to end large, nighttime gatherings of unsupervised teenagers and preteens on the Country Club Plaza by holding parents to account.
How, he didn’t know.
But whatever plan is developed, it will be a joint effort of the mayor and the City Council, James said after consultation with school officials, police and the juvenile court, among others. And James promised that the plan will be in place before next weekend.
It may or may not include an early curfew, as some are calling for.
“We can’t expect that imposing a curfew is going to stop some 15-, 16-, 17-year-old from bringing a gun to anywhere,” he said at an afternoon City Hall news conference. “On the other hand, we should be able to expect parents not to have their 13-year-old children on the Plaza getting shot.”
His announcement came a day after the Saturday night shooting that saw three youths wounded and the mayor forced to the ground by his security team. James, along with former Councilman Alvin Brooks and a group of ministers, was at the Plaza talking with kids and assessing the crowd problem in response to calls from Plaza owner Highwoods Properties and others to roll back the current midnight curfew on weekends to 9 p.m.
“A curfew would have merit in our view, but that is a decision our capable mayor and his team of municipal experts need to weigh,” Highwoods said in a statement issued Sunday.
The shootings occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday near 47th and Wyandotte streets. When shots rang out — witnesses reported hearing five or six — James was about 50 yards away. His two bodyguards pushed him to the ground and drew their guns.
“They basically forced me into the flowerbeds by the Cheesecake Factory,” James said.
He was uninjured. But two boys and a girl — 13, 15 and 16 years old — were wounded. A bullet grazed the girl’s face, and the two boys were shot in their legs, police said. None of the injuries was life-threatening. James said all three youths were in stable condition on Sunday.
Kansas City police continue to investigate the shootings and interview witnesses. Police believe some witnesses know the shooters’ identities but are reluctant to reveal their names.
The Plaza has been the scene of large crowds of underage people both this year and last, mostly on warm weekend evenings in the spring, summer and fall. Some come to see a movie and others are there simply to hang out, James said.
Generally, they are well behaved, but there have been sporadic bouts of violence and disorder.
The first notable occurrence was on April 10, 2010, when as many as 900 youths, some as young as 11, converged on the shopping and entertainment district that Saturday night. Police responded to reports of vandalism and assaults. One group of teens robbed and beat a couple from Grandview. A girl in a prom dress was shoved into a fountain. Fights broke out.
Police used pepper spray to disperse groups who refused to move along when instructed to do so.
Afterward, city officials and community leaders expressed their concern by staging a summit to look for ways to deal with the situation. The general agreement was that kids needed more activities.
At the time, City Councilwoman Cindy Circo said she would put together a “youth master plan” to see where there might be gaps between programs like Night Hoops basketball and other activities. However, no plan was developed. Circo now says she is unconvinced that more city-sponsored activities are the solution.
“We can have organized programs, but the kids who need to be there, aren’t,” she said in an interview before Saturday’s incident.
Circo, the mayor pro-tem, was at James’ side on Sunday as the mayor acknowledged that while more youth activities would give kids more things to do, it was not the city’s responsibility alone. Churches, schools and businesses, also, need to get involved, he said. But most of all he blamed parents for allowing their children to roam unattended late into the night at the Plaza and other gathering places in the city.
“We have a youth problem on the Plaza, but first and foremost we have a parent problem,” he said.
James said many of the kids he spoke with Saturday were from Wyandotte County, Grandview, Raymore and other suburbs, and had been dropped off by their parents. Any new plan of action the city develops, James said, needs to be aimed at getting the attention of parents who, he said, use the Plaza as “a babysitter.”
“How do we hold parents responsible?” he asked.
Police have repeatedly called on parents to be more responsible.
Philadelphia over the weekend began enforcing a 9 p.m. curfew on Fridays and Saturdays in areas that have seen even worse problems than Kansas City has experienced. Police arrested about 50 people the first night. Teens can be fined up to $300 and parents $500.
Kansas City’s current curfew is midnight on weekends and 11 p.m. the rest of the week. An initial violation results in a $1 fine. Subsequent violations are $500 or probation, which includes family counseling.
Exceptions to the curfew include going to work, school activities and doing errands for a parent, among others.
Among Plaza merchants who spoke with a reporter on Sunday there was a strong consensus that serious steps are needed to solve what they see as a serious problem.
“This isn’t the first time. There have been multiple shootings,” said Lydia Wade, 19, an employee at Cold Stone Creamery, citing an instance several weeks back in which gunshots were fired just west of the Plaza along 47th Street.
Wade said that only recently has she felt less safe and greater trepidation at the Plaza. Although Wade did not work this most recent Saturday night, she said she often does work the late Saturday night shift.
“Usually, Saturday nights, there are large groups of children who don’t even look like they should be on their own,” she said. “They’re out at, like, 11 p.m. They look like they’re 7 or 8 years old.”
She recalled one night seeing a band of what she estimated to be 20 to 40 teenagers and young children just walking together down the center of 47th Street.
“The police had to chase them out of the street,” she said.
A handful of merchants said they are torn between striking a balance between the rights of kids to congregate against business interests and the safety of other Plaza-goers.
“As a businessperson, it’s not good for business,” said Jocelyn Scoggin, an employee at the nearby shop Origins. “But do the kids have the right to walk where they want? They do.”
In an ill economy, she said, neither the Plaza nor the city can afford a reputation that damages commerce.
Scoggin said that after Saturday night’s shooting, she understands how the parents of any child, particularly teenagers, would be reluctant to send their children to the Plaza unaccompanied on a weekend night.
At N Valentino, manager Julie Brunson, 27, supports a curfew even though her store closes at 8 p.m.
“It doesn’t matter whether it happens at 8 at night or 2 in the morning,” she said of the violence. “When you have situations like this where people work, people live, people shop, it doesn’t help. I don’t want it to give people the wrong idea of the Plaza.”
On Saturday night, P.F. Chang’s manager Tony Hayman, 35, said he heard what he believed to be the first of at least six gunshots about 10:45 p.m. The doors to the restaurant had already been locked, he said, because of the late hour.
He said his first concern was to keep patrons inside as a mass of kids ran through the Plaza and police descended on horseback and in patrol cars. At least one helicopter hovered above.
“What really made it surreal was to see the yellow crime scene tape wrapped around the Plaza,” he said.
All open shops on the Plaza, he said, ended up closing early, including P.F. Chang’s.
“People were calling us and asking if there was a riot,” he said.
On Sunday, Hallie and Rob Stewart of Lenexa strolled along the Plaza with their 7-month-old son, Braylon. The couple moved to Kansas City in March from the Minneapolis area. They hadn’t heard of the shooting, but said that they recalled that several years ago the Mall of America was also forced to take measures, including a curfew, when groups of teenagers became overwhelming.
“I can see both sides of it,” Rob Stewart said. “On one hand, teenagers like to linger around. But I have to tell you, in terms of the economic impact, I’d rather have a curfew and make things safer than not.”

Teenager Shot By Police Officer-Caught on Camera (Cincinnati Black Family Reunion)

Surveillance cameras capture an officer involved in a fight for his life Saturday night-that officer ended up shooting and killing a teen who pulled a gun. Cincinnati Police released new information about the shooting during a news conference late Sunday afternoon, nearly 24 hours after the violent confrontation.
For nearly two minutes, officers struggled to control 16-year-old Davon Mullins. Cameras show the suspect pulled his gun. That's when the officer fired twice. the chief of police says the officer had no choice.
The investigation began at the Black Family Reunion. An off-duty officer reported seeing several people bringing guns into the event, and placing them together in a certain location. Then he saw a second group of people pick up the guns, and walk into the business district. Officers say it appeared to be preplanned.
Officer Oscar Cyranek met the suspect at Fountain Square, right in front of the Fifth-Third Bank Building. Cincinnati Police Chief James Craig says, "The officer immediately asked Davon to stop. Davon refused."
Their confrontation is all caught on surveillance cameras. To stop Davon from running, Chief Craig said the officer grabbed him and forced him against a wall. For one minute and 53 seconds, they wrestled, both trying to gain control. You can see the officer reach for his handcuffs but he's unable to put them on. Eventually the officer forced Davon into a seated position but he loses control of his right hand. Chief Craig says, "Davon held a 9 millimeter high point semi automatic hand gun. He was holding the weapon with his finger on the trigger."
Before Davon could shoot, Officer Cyranek fired twice. Blood remains on the window today. Of the confrontation, Chief Craig says, "The officer had no choice."
Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory commented, "A 16-year-old carrying a gun through the streets of Cincinnati is a bad formula and we need for that to stop."
Police say Mullins had several prior run-ins with the law. "This is a broader community issue where the community itself needs to take control of the young people within it."
Chief Craig plans to work with community groups and faith-based organizations to stop the flow of guns into young people's hands. "We've got to do something and we have to do it quickly. we have to do it in partnership."
Meanwhile, Officer Cyranek is on paid administrative leave according to protocol. He's been an officer since 2006 and has been involved in one previous incident. He was cleared of that incident, and it didn't happen recently.
Police recovered three guns Saturday night and made one arrest.

Moments before she was slain last week on Chicago's Southwest Side, 17-year-old Charinez Jefferson begged the gunman not to shoot because she was pregnant, prosecutors said today.
Despite her plea, Timothy Jones, 18, opened fire on Jefferson anyway, yelling an expletive at her as he shot her in the head, prosecutors said. He then stood over her as she lay on the ground and fired several more times, striking her in the chest and back.
Jefferson was pronounced dead a short time later, but doctors were able to successfully deliver her baby boy, who remained in critical condition today, Assistant State's Attorney John Dillon said.
"Tests are expected to be performed to determine whether the child has any brain activity, as there are concerns over the child possibly suffering from oxygen deprivation after the victim had been shot," Dillon told Judge Laura Sullivan.
Sullivan denied bond for Jones, 18, who was charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 16 slaying.
“I’m happy that he’s been caught before we even put her in the ground,” said Jefferson’s aunt, Devorah Hope. “This young man sent a message on the streets that an unarmed pregnant woman that’s not violent to nobody, it’s not safe.”
Jones had seen Jefferson walking with a rival gang member in the 3000 block of West 64th Street and approached them in a car, Dillon said. He got out of the vehicle and fired at least one shot at the rival, who ran off, leaving Jefferson to fend for herself. After begging Jones for mercy, Jefferson was shot at "point-blank range," Dillon said.
Jones, of the 6300 block of South Rockwell Street, was arrested at his home Saturday after numerous witnesses identified him as the killer, according to information from prosecutors and court documents.
A police source said that Jones was a "stick-up man" well known to area police.
At the time of the shooting, Jones was serving 2 years of probation for a 2010 burglary conviction, Dillon said. He also has a "lengthy" juvenile record, including convictions for unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and burglary, Dillon said.
Outside court, Jones' family members denied he is a gang member and said he could not be involved in Jefferson's murder because he has had trouble walking since being shot in the leg a few weeks ago.
"My condolences go out to the young lady and her family, but we know 100 percent that they got the wrong guy," said Jones' cousin, Stanley Jones, 36. "He can barely walk."
Courtroom personnel and deputies in charge of Jones in the lockup said he did not appear to be limping or request any walking aides such as crutches or a wheelchair.
Hope said that she pledged to attend every court hearing for her niece, though she could not bring herself to go inside the courtroom on Monday.
“I was too emotional, I was too upset to deal with that at this moment,” she said, reached by telephone after the hearings. “I’m angry because of what he’s done. Because we can’t bring Charinez back and we’ve got a baby that’s fighting his life.”
Hope said she’s trying to be positive for her sister.
“I haven’t eaten anything since this happened; just drink water and pray and listen to positive music to keep me in a positive mood so I can stand there with my sister, because we still got some living to do,” Hope said.

Six injured in shooting at Kingsessing basketball game

Six people were injured during a shootout - one critically - at a local league basketball game attended by 500 people in the city's Kingsessing section Monday night, police said.
The game was being held by the Eggy Taylor and Pick Brown League, which is run by the city, said Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson.
The victims were "innocent bystanders," Slawson said. One man was in critical condition.
The apparent target was among the bystanders. "It didn't have anything to do with the basketball game," Slawson said.
Police responded at 8:49 p.m. to reports of shots being fired at the Kingsessing Recreation Center's outdoor basketball courts and found three of the victims at the scene.
During halftime, a man entered the area near the intersection of Chester Avenue and 49th Street and became involved in a gun battle with another man, said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives. All victims were adults, and one was a woman.
One victim was shot in the stomach and was transported by a medic unit to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition, police said. The two other victims found at the scene suffered minor wounds to their legs and were driven in a patrol car to the hospital.
Then, at the hospital, the remaining victims arrived by private automobiles with minor gunshot wounds, police said. A crowd of friends and family members gathered outside the hospital.
Identities of the victims were not available, but police reports said an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg; a 23-year-old man was hit in a thigh; a 19-year-old woman was shot in the right leg and foot; a 19-year-old man was shot in the left knee; and a 21-year-old was hit in the right leg.
Two other shootings that occurred almost at the same time elsewhere in the city left one man in critical condition. A man in a fourth shooting also was in critical condition. At 8:53 p.m. in the 800 block of Butler Street in the city's Hunting Park section, a 23-year-old man was shot four times during a robbery, police said.
A taxi transported him to Temple University Hospital, where he was reported in critical condition.
At 9:04 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot multiple times in the legs in the 1600 block of Dyre Street in the city's Frankford section. He was reported in stable condition at Aria Health-Torresdale Campus.
In a fourth shooting, a 22-year-old man was wounded in the back when an unidentified person shot into the middle of a large fight in the 100 block of North Millick Street, police said.
He was reported in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Police are looking for a man who stabbed a pedestrian on Long Island after asking him for a dollar.
Nassau County police say the 27-year-old victim was walking on Nassau Road in Roosevelt Monday evening when the suspect approached and asked him for one dollar.
The victim said he didn't have any money and continued walking.
Police say the suspect followed him and then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the stomach and hand multiple times.
A passing motorist scared the suspect off. He fled, empty-handed, in an unknown direction.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a black man about 5'7" with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a red and black New York Yankees hat, black hoodie and blue jeans, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
The investigation is ongoing.

The referee who was assaulted by youth football coaches and players at a Saturday game told detectives he did not want to press charges.
Referee Jayme Ream, 41, signed a waiver of prosecution as the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office began to investigate the attack that occurred at an afternoon game between the Sarasota Gators and the North Port Huskies at Riverview High School.
However, authorities can still decide to pursue battery charges without Ream and the Sheriff's Office has announced they have identified four suspects.
Col. Steve Burns will hold a press conference at 1:15 p.m. to update the investigation.
Attacking an athletic official is a felony in Florida.
The fight that quickly turned into a mob scene was apparently over a disputed call in the game among the two junior teams ages 13 and 14.
A video captured by a parent in the stands shows Gator coaches first throwing water bottles at the referees and then an unidentified parent or coach walking onto the field toward Ream.
According to a Sheriff's report, Ream says an unnamed suspect threw him to the ground.
The suspect, who said Ream was being unfair to his team, told deputies that Ream pushed him first.
Then a player in full gear, and presumably 13 or 14 years old, is seen in the video rushing through the field and tackling Ream.
Ream has not responded to multiple calls for comment.
EARLIER
It started with a disputed call, followed by some disgruntled coaches throwing water bottles at the referees.
What happened next, captured on video and now being investigated by authorities, is shocking: more than a dozen youth football coaches and players attacking at least one referee, including a player in full gear except for his helmet flying into a referee and tackling him to the ground.
Felony charges could follow an investigation into what happened Saturday — and who did what — during the game between the age 13-14 junior teams of the Sarasota Gators and North Port Huskies played at Riverview High School.
The investigation will be easier for authorities since the fight was videotaped by someone in the stands and turned over to the Sheriff's Office.
Debbie Ismail, a "team mom" whose son Adam plays for the Huskies pee wee team, was just feet away from the melee.
Ismail said the fight started minutes before halftime over some disputed calls, and the coaches from the Gators started throwing water bottles at the referees.
"I was shocked," Ismail said. "I looked at the children to see the expressions on their faces. They were horrified."
She added: "This is not what football is about."
The fight gave Ismail an anxiety attack, and for her son Adam, it was "terrifying" to witness.
"I felt really bad for the ref that got beat up," he said.
Ismail said the referee was taken away in an ambulance.
"The video speaks for itself," Sarasota County Sheriff's Col. Steve Burns said. "It was disturbing."
"I saw adults, entrusted in a mentoring position with the youth of our community, acting and behaving in a manner that is absolutely unacceptable," Burns said.
At the game, the video shows a coach or parent confronting a referee who was walking out of the end zone.
Punches were thrown between the two men, who started grappling, until a Gator player wearing the number 6 dives in and levels the referee. The boy then celebrates his hit on the official, the video shows.
As another referee tries to protect the referee on the ground, other Gators coaches, players and fans swarm the field, and one man appears to try to kick the grounded referee in the head.
The referee gets up and scampers away, but the fight continues. The whole scene lasts just over two minutes.
Attacking an athletic official is a felony in Florida.
At least two or three people would be facing felony charges, Burns said. Investigators now are identifying individuals in the footage and interviewing them.
Burns would not say if the player who tackled the referee would face charges.
"Obviously, he's not getting a real good mentor from his role model, his coaching staff," Burns said.
No one was hospitalized as a result of the fight, the Sheriff's Office said.
Sarasota County School District spokesman Scott Ferguson said the Gators league has been banned from playing on school district fields.
Derrick Timmons, a Sarasota Gators coach for a separate age group, said he was advised by the league's attorney not to speak about the incident, but said the league is trying to put it behind them.
"I don't want nothing to get twisted, so I'm not going to say anything," he said. "We all know what happened. Whatever anybody from North Port tells you ain't true. That's all I have to say about that."
Timmons said the Gators are divided into five age groups, ranging from 4 to 14. The age group involved in the incident caught on tape was 13- and 14-year-olds.
Timmons, who coaches the 11 to 12 age group, said he was at the game but did not see the incident first-hand.
"Believe me, if you saw the tape, it's a big deal," he said. "It doesn't show everything though. It doesn't show what led up to it. That's why I don't want to talk about it because it doesn't show everything. Basically at the end of it it's going to be he said this and she said that."
The group that oversees the Gators and other youth football leagues may expel the entire Gators group, said James Hogan, president of the Middle Florida Football and Cheerleading Conference.
Hogan said the conference has already suspended the team involved and expelled four people identified as having participated in the fight. Hogan said those expelled included coaches and children but could not get more specific.
Wednesday night, the conference members met to decide if they will suspend the Gators. Hogan said it was likely even more people involved will be expelled.
Hogan said he saw the video on YouTube over the weekend and was especially upset that adult coaches appeared to be involved.
"We're about the kids and were going to see what's in the best interest for all those teams and the kids," Hogan said.

It will be interesting to see if crime and murder rates go back to older levels in the coming year, not that I wish for it but this seems to be the trend.

Now these animals are all over the place. Were it me - I would round these beasts up in a paddy wagon and ship them off to South Dakota or montana and put them through 2 years of boot camp and hard labor.

I was more remembering the 80's when all the train cars had graffiti on them and everything was a dirty shithole, guess time will tell. Even without that if we have another 'recession' or the current one gets worse crime will definitely go up.

In one of the bloodiest weekends in recent city history, 31 people were brutally shot in roughly 48 hours this weekend -- including three kids at a house party-turned-shooting gallery in The Bronx.
25 people had been shot as of Sunday night, but by early Monday morning, six more people were shot in three separate incidents in Brooklyn.
Four people were shot at 12:45 a.m. at what appeared to be a barbecue on East 54th Street. One of the victims, 18-year-old Tyrief Gary, has died. The other three are in stable condition.

A man and a woman were each shot in the chest at 4:24 a.m. and 6 a.m., the first at Linden Boulevard and Nostrand Ave and the second at 57 Empire Boulevard. Both victims were taken to Kings County hospital where they're in critical condition.
Police sources believe the three shootings this morning are connected to the pre-dawn festivities leading up to today's West Indian Day parade. The traditional celebration, known as J'ouvert, has been the scene of numerous shootings in the past, although cops have had it under control in recent years.
Calling the chilling violence "just unconscionable," Mayor Bloomberg demanded that the feds step up their efforts to get illegal weapons off the streets.
"We just cannot continue to have these guns in the hands of kids who don't understand the value of human life," he said.
Two dozen of the victims were shot in 13 incidents between 6 a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. yesterday, authorities said.
More than half of those were wounded -- one fatally -- within a five-hour stretch, from 3 to 8 a.m. yesterday.
The 25th victim was shot at 9 a.m. yesterday.
The one-day crime wave mirrored the city's drug-fueled epidemic of violence in the 1980s and '90s, police sources said.
"Last night was unbelievable," one source said. "I can't remember a couple of hours like these since the days of crack."
The violence continued during the day yesterday, with at least five more shootings through midnight, one of them fatal.
A total of eight people alone were shot at 3:40 a.m. at the out-of-control house party on East 221st Street in The Bronx Sunday, authorities said.
The violence erupted after one man crashed the gig and then got into an argument with another male partygoer, sources said. Each opened fire on the other, spraying the panicked crowd with at least 21 bullets.
"I heard three shots, then a bunch more," said a neighbor who asked that her name be withheld. "Then I heard people going over the fence and women screaming."
Sabine Walters, 48 -- whose daughter threw the "liquor barbecue" bash and whose 11-year-old son, Shaquan, was hit in the right calf by a bullet -- said, "I looked around, screaming, 'Where's my son? Where's my son?' "
Shaquan, his leg wrapped in white gauze, looked terrified as he whimpered to a reporter from his bed at Jacobi Hospital, "My foot hurts."
Police said they were searching for 17-year-old Oneil DaSilva, of Mount Vernon, in connection with the shooting. His rap sheet includes nine arrests for attempted murder, third-degree assault and burglary.
The second suspect has not been identified.
The other two wounded kids were a 13-year-old girl hit in the left thigh and a 14-year-old girl shot in the back. Both were in stable condition last night.
Five men were also shot at the party. A 24-year-old victim, shot twice in the chest, was in critical condition.
The most gravely injured victim in the other shootings was a man shot on East 93rd Street in Brooklyn. He later died.

Video shows teens mob clerk, rob convenience store in Red Bird area of Dallas

Dallas police are investigating a convenience store robbery in which a group of teens attacked a clerk.
The melee, which was caught on video, happened last month at the Exxon Tiger Mart at South Polk Street and Interstate 20, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reports.
A large crowd of young people entered the store about 10:15 p.m. and began throwing bottles at one another.
When the clerk confronted them and tried to close the door, someone in the crowd punches him, knocking him to the ground.
"Once they got me on the ground, I thought they were going to kill me," C.J. Thomas told Channel 8's Monika Diaz.
Fortunately, two girls helped him up and pulled him out of harm's way.

Hunt said the torrent of bullets seemed to be aimed at Goff who was outside, sitting up against the front wall of the building.

A crowd of hundreds walked and fought its way down Nicollet Mall Saturday night.
A series of fights broke out after a teen dance party in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday night, causing wild scenes on busy streets, and leading to the arrests of three participants.
Early news reports called the action a "riot," but that term has since been downgraded to "mini-riot." The trouble started as hundreds of teenagers poured out of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, which was hosting the "Big Bash 2" dance party. During the party, kids had scuffled with event security, leading to a police call, an early end to the party, and an exodus of riled-up kids.
As a large crowd moved down Nicollet Mall, it tossed restaurant furniture and confronted bystanders, according to the Star Tribune.
More troublesome, though, were the fights that took place within the group, one of which was caught on tape.
The video, captured and uploaded by someone who says he was having his bachelor party at the Local, shows a slew of young people walking down the street. A couple of them begin to have words, and some scatter, before a dozen or so get into brief brawl with punches and chairs thrown.
The fighting ends soon enough, and the crowd simply moves on farther down the block, increasing its speed as cops arrive.
Later, when the crowd stalled at South 10th Street and Nicollet, police responded with riot gear and pepper spray, and arrested three "mini-riot" participants, one of whom had punched a cop, the Star Tribune reports.
The lesson, apparently, is that you should always wear goggles to teen dance parties: Party promoter Brayshaun Gibson, 19, says police used pepper spray to disperse the first Big Bash party in April.

DENVER – Police are asking for the public’s help tracking down a large group of violent teenagers.
They say 10 to 15 young people — described as black or Hispanic and both male and female — attacked four white men on the 16th Street Mall at about 10:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Denver police say the men were standing on the mall near Arapahoe when they were approached by the group. After a conversation, the group turned violent and they attacked the men.

In 2009 a similar series of attacks took place near downtown, on the 16th Street Mall and in surrounding areas. The victims were usually white or Hispanic and the suspects were black. Surveillance video captured one of the attacks on camera.
Many of those arrested in connection with the assaults were known to have ties with street gangs. Police said some or all of those attacks may have a kind of gang initation.

Police have released shocking video of a thug viciously beating a Bronx elderly man, repeatedly pummeling him before snatching his jewelry and cash.
The thug grabbed the 81-year-old Jose Rodriguez as he entered the lobby of his Parkchester building on Unionport Road, near McGraw Avenue, around 4 p.m. on Thursday, and threw him to the ground.

30 girls assault another girl in Jersey City park

A 15-year-old Hoboken girl was assaulted in a Downtown Jersey City park Friday night by a group of roughly 30 girls who stole her cellphone, police reports said.
Police were called to the park on Wayne Street between Barrow Street and Jersey Avenue at 9:57 p.m. on the report of a large, disorderly group and after dispersing the group of up to 30 people, police noticed the 15-year-old girl standing at the corner of the park with a bloody nose, swollen lip and bloody ear, reports said.
The victim said she was walking in the park with her cousin when the pack of teenage girls swarmed around her and assaulted her before stealing her cellphone, reports said.
The girl’s mother, who was called to the scene, told police that just as she was arriving, she came across the group, asked for the phone back and one of the girls returned it to her, reports said.

Jackson, Mississippi (CNN) — On a recent Sunday morning just before dawn, two carloads of white teenagers drove to Jackson, Mississippi, on what the county district attorney says was a mission of hate: to find and hurt a black person.
In a parking lot on the western side of town they found their victim.
James Craig Anderson, a 49-year-old auto plant worker, was standing in a parking lot, near his car. The teens allegedly beat Anderson repeatedly, yelled racial epithets, including “White Power!” according to witnesses.
Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith says a group of the teens then climbed into their large Ford F250 green pickup truck, floored the gas, and drove the truck right over Anderson, killing him instantly.

The woman accused of keeping four handicapped adults chained in a Philadelphia basement and stealing their Social Security checks may have done the same thing to victims in Florida, Virginia and Texas, Philadelphia police said today.

She was charged with beating the man with a hammer, tying him up in a closet with only three meals over the course of two months, and beating him with broomsticks, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. When he died, his body was stuffed into a plastic bag and dumped it in an abandoned house, according to the newspaper. Weston served eight years in prison.

5 Stabbed at Jail-Release Welcome Home Party
An inmate-release party turns into something resembling a jailhouse brawl.

A welcome home party for a teen released from juvenile detention resulted in gunshots and stab wounds for five people at the party.
The congratulations-for-getting-out-of-juvenile-detention party occurred on the 500 block of Hess Street in Bethlehem Saturday night, police told the Morning Call.
Reports of gunshots in that area brought police to find two people with stab wounds from a huge brawl that erupted on the street during the party. Police brought the two wounded to St. Luke’s Hospital and later discovered that three more people were stabbed and had gone to the hospital on their own.
Four adults and one 17-year-old juvenile were among the wounded, reports the Morning Call.
Five people were detained, including a woman suspected of firing a gun, but all were released, police say. There have been no charges filed in the case but the investigation is ongoing.
Police told the Morning Call that the cause for the fight was unknown and the guest of honor was not among the wounded or detained.

Violent Mob Savagely Attacks 84 year old man

AN 84-YEAR-OLD ex-university official savagely attacked by four young punks during a walk in Wissahickon Valley Park earlier this week theorizes that the beating he endured was a cruel game of "get the old geezer."
Jim Shea, a former vice president of university relations for Temple, from 1968 to 1983, walks up to five miles on Forbidden Drive, in Fairmount Park, three times a week, but that type of stamina wasn't enough to stave off the lowlifes who not only beat him bloody, but dealt a blow to one of the things he holds most dear - his pride.
Shea was near the Valley Green Inn, on Forbidden Drive, in the Wissahickon Valley Park, about 1:15 p.m. Monday when he was hit from behind.
"I felt a real something to the head, a real blow to the head from behind," he said. "It knocked me to the ground; that was the biggie."
Shea said the four assailants continued to beat him for minutes while he was on the ground. He said they were black, appeared to be between 16 and 20, and three of them were wearing La Salle sweatshirts.
Police and Shea said that at least one of the attackers used a rock to hit him, causing deep cuts above his eyes. They all kicked and punched him while he was on the ground, conscious the entire time.
"There was only one I really saw well because he came back to kick me," Shea said. "The others spent a great deal of the time laughing."

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Associated Press / The Huffington Post) -- A Connecticut mother has pleaded guilty to charges that she forced her 4-year-old son to drink beer and gave her 10-month-old daughter beer and cocaine.
Juliette Dunn, 29, of Bridgeport, was charged after a witness waved down police and complained about a woman giving beer to children at a playground.
Dunn's son was reportedly seen drinking from a 40-ounce bottle of Steel Reserve. Her daughter's bottle was said to be filled with alcohol.
A companion, 33-year-old Lisa Jefferson, pleaded guilty to the same charges.
The children were turned over to the Department of Children and Families after 29-year-old Dunn's arrest. Custody hasn't been decided.
It's unknown if either woman has a lawyer.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A bizarre incident has left a woman in critical condition in Harlem.
A 47-year-old woman was walking with her 14-year-old son outside the Target store in East Harlem Sunday night.
Witnesses said a group of kids pushed a shopping cart off the fourth floor walkway that connects the store to a parking garage.
The woman was struck on the head by the falling cart.
Two 12-year-olds are in custody. They face assault charges and criminal possession of weapon — namely the cart. They’ll be charged as juveniles.

ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) - Investigators say the victim of a fatal stabbing at the Wal-Mart in Albion was the innocent target of an attempted carjacking, and the suspect in the brutal attack tells them he doesn't know why he did it.
It's hard to believe this violent crime took place at a Wal-Mart in a small farming community in Orleans County. Sunday night, a woman walking to her car was stabbed to death in what police believe was a random carjacking attempt.
"A woman doing some last minute shopping, and her life was ended right here," said Benson.
Wal-Mart shoppers are still stunned. Benson was actually inside the Albion store Sunday night when the cold-blooded murder happened, right in the parking lot.
Benson said, "We went in, came out a few minutes later, and there was a woman [dying] int he parking lot."
24-year-old Luis Flamenco, an illegal Honduran national, is in the Orleans County Jail after admitting to stabbing 45-yearold Kathleen Byham. Police say Byham resisted Flamenco, and he stabbed her over and over again. She was rushed to the Medina Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say hours after his capture, Flamenco told police, "I saw this woman. She was white and she was walking away from the store out into the parking lot. I ran up to her and snatched her car keys and I started stabbing her with a small bladed kitchen knife that I had taken with me from my house. I don't know why I did it, but I took her keys and ran across the street into the field."

Dawn Davis said, "Ran down to the end of the road, stood there, looked both ways, he didn't know which way he wanted to go. Then he went by my son-in-law's trailer, went behind the woods."
"My friend was a couple cars over and actually witnessed the whole thing. And he got in his truck, and when they proceeded that way and went behind a house, that's when he could no longer do anything about it," said Andrea Hullfish.
Orleans County Undersheriff Steven Smith said, "Some excellent eyewitness descriptions, and we also had some very good video footage from the Wal-Mart security surveillance cameras."
Police caught Flamenco an hour and a half after the attack. Authorities found the knife used to murder Byham in a cornfield across from the store and arrested two illegal Mexican nationals who were with Flamenco for the robbery attempt at a nearby trailer park.
In all, six illegal immigrants were rounded up during this. Flamenco is due back in court to face second degree murder charges on Wednesday. The two Mexican nationals with him have been charged by police as accomplices and are being held by immigration officials at the federal facility in Batavia. Police say the two accomplices did not know the robbery attempt would go that far. And three other illegal immigrants were found to be living in Albion as police investigated the murder.

I know there are a lot of blacks that do not associate with these mobs and criminal elements in the black community. Unfortunately the criminal, guy-like behavior of some blacks is helping reinforce the negative stereotype blacks have been labeled with. Instead of addressing this issue these cowardly black leaders ignore it completely. What will come in the future if these trends continue is a race war and the blacks will lose out big time in the USA. All it takes is one major event that escalates out of control.
It is in the best interest of black leaders to show leadership and hold their own community accountable when they do harm to others.

A wild scene unfolded in a South Carolina courtroom on Thursday when two former lovers became hysterical after receiving a pair of life sentences for the murder of a three-year-old girl.
Shocking video shows court officials struggling to assist a distressed Erica Mae Butts and Shanita Latrice Cunningham, both charged with homicide by child abuse in connection to the death of Serenity Richardson.
Following Circuit Judge Deadra Jefferson's announcement of the life sentences, both Butts and Cunningham collapsed to the floor on Thursday as emotional screams came from family members watching from the court room gallery. Authorities proceeded to individually wheel both women out of the court room.
The defendants, both 25, were living together as a couple in 2009, when police discovered the toddler covered in cuts and bruises, the Charleston Post and Courrier reports. Butts, identified as the child's godmother, was caring for Serenity while her mother, Ieshia Richardson, moved from Detroit.
"All I ask is that justice be served for her today. That she finally can seriously rest in peace, and then maybe, just maybe I can breathe a breath of fresh air," said Richardson, according to CBS affiliate WCSC.

SOCORRO, Texas — Socorro police and the FBI are looking for four men who police say attacked and raped an elderly man who was out on his early-morning walk. Investigators said the 70-year-old was walking Thursday around 6 a.m. at Valle del Sol Park on Valle Rico Road and Valle Fertil when they said four black men got out of a late-'90s Ford or Chevrolet van or minivan and demanded the Mexican-American man to give them money. When he said, "No," they allegedly grabbed him, threw him in the van and raped him. Socorro spokesman David Garcia said the men yelled racial slurs at the victim as they assaulted him.

Police have launched an investigation after a man was caught on video knocking out an older man at the Chicago Avenue Red Line stop while others laughed and mimicked the attack.
The assault occurred in April, but the video has only recently surfaced on the Internet.
The video, posted at worldstarhiphop.com, shows a man in a tan coat moving among people on the southbound subway platform as a group of youths joke and laugh. One of the youths starts following the man, turning around and smiling as his friends whoop and laugh.
The youth, dressed in a black vest jacket, then appears to tap the man to get his attention. When the man turns around, the two appear to exchange a few words before the youth suddenly strikes him on the side of the head.
The older man falls on his back so hard his hat flies off, according to the video. The youth and his friends board a waiting train as a woman kneels down and touches the man and makes a phone call.
As the train pulls out, one of the youths can be heard saying, "Who just did that?" Another responds, "He laid the (expletive) out," and "He knocked his ass out." One of the youths then mimicks the punch.
Police and paramedics were called to the station and the older man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to Police news Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
While some websites have named the youth in the video, he has not been charged.
Police are seeking the man who was hit to see if he wants to pursue charges. They asked anyone who has seen the victim or has information on his whereabouts to contact police.

CHICAGO (WLS) - A couple dollars apparently wasn’t enough for a beggar who knocked a man to the ground at a CTA station in the Lake View neighborhood on the North Side on Sunday evening.
Police say Timothy Anderson was begging for money on a CTA train just after 6 p.m. Sunday near the Belmont elevated station in the 900 block of West Belmont Avenue.
The 32-year-old victim gave Anderson a couple of dollars, then got off the train, according to police.
Anderson followed the man and punched him in the head, causing the victim to strike his head on the ground, a release from police News Affairs said.
Police were called and several bystanders gave chase. Anderson was caught by police a few blocks away in the 3100 block of North Clark Street.
The victim, who was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for a cut to the head and other facial injuries, positively identified Anderson as the man who got money from him, then punched him, the release said.
Anderson, 30, of the 3200 block of West Fulton Street, was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery, police said. On Tuesday, Anderson was ordered held on $150,000 bond and a prelimianry hearing was set for Nov. 21 in North Felony Court (Br. 42), Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.

Shanaya Edgell Arrested After Fast Food Flip-Out At Wis. McDonald's

A Wisconsin woman recently discovered that 3 a.m. is not a good time for the great taste of her favorite McDonald's sandwich.
On Sunday, police in Rock County were dispatched to an address in Janesville at about 3:30 a.m., to investigate a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival at the scene, officers spoke with 40-year-old Darrell Page. The shirtless and visibly upset man said he had just been attacked by his 22-year-old girlfriend, Shanaya Edgell.
Page told police that Edgell had become uncontrollably angry after they went through a McDonald's drive-through and discovered the fast-food chain had stopped serving hamburgers and had switch to their breakfast menu.
"Edgell got upset because she did not want breakfast and only wanted a cheeseburger," reads the police report.
After Page drove away, Edgell apparently accepted the fact that she was not going to have it her way and asked her boyfriend to return to the restaurant so she could get breakfast. Page apparently disagreed and drove on, enraging his girlfriend, police said.
"Edgell began striking him in the face and biting his right arm as he was trying to drive," the police report reads. "Page stated that Edgell was grabbing the steering wheel as he was trying to control the vehicle as it was moving."
Page pulled over to the side of the road and Edgell exited the vehicle, but when he attempted to drive off, she allegedly jumped on the hood of the vehicle. Officers arrived on the scene shortly afterward.
Thompson, who officers observed was "bleeding from his upper lip," refused to allow officers to see where he had allegedly been bitten. He also would not allow them to photograph his injuries.
"It's not a big deal. I'm okay," Page said, according to police.
When police questioned Edgell, she told them that she and her boyfriend had been drinking at a bar and went to McDonald's afterwards. She admitted "acting crazy" because McDonald's had switched over to the breakfast menu and said Page was trying to calm her down. Edgell also told police that she ripped Page's shirt off during their argument, police said.
Edgell was charged with disorderly conduct and was placed in the Rock County jail in lieu of $150 bond.
Perhaps next time Edgell suffers from early morning hunger she will keep her cool and order hashbrowns or an Egg McMuffin. After all, everyone knows the clerks at McDonald's "love to see you smile."

Flash Mob Shoplifts at Silver Spring 7-Eleven

About 50 people simultaneously shoplifted from a Silver Spring, Md., 7-Eleven Saturday night.
Officers arriving at the store in the 12200 block of Tech Road after 11:20 p.m. saw several people gathered in surrounding parking lots and on side streets, police said. They began to disperse when police arrived.
The shoplifters -- described as teens and young adults -- took items including snacks and drinks, police said
Police stopped a group of six people ages 16-18 near Tech Road and Broadbirch Drive. Each had items from the 7-Eleven but no receipts, police said.
Detectives are investigating whether the shoplifters had attended a birthday party in the area, police said.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the melee took place Monday inside Regal Nails at the Walmart on Centerville Highway outside Snellville.
The station reported that witnesses said a woman walked into the salon, became upset with the pricing, and spent the next half hour cursing at workers and other customers.
The brawl broke out after the children of that woman clashed with the child of another customer.
"And from there, it was off the chain," a witness told Channel 2. "Bowls were flying, glass was flying, hair was flying, braids was flying, weaves was flying, everything was flying."
One of those flying bowls, a porcelain soaking bowl, hit Ashley Corbett, 17, in the face as she waited to get her nails done.
"As I headed toward her, all I could see was just blood," Corbett's mother, Gail Dudley, told Channel 2. "She opened her mouth and her teeth were shattered."
According to witnesses, the woman who threw the bowl that struck Corbett ran from the store. Police are still looking for the woman.

Grandmother shot while cooking Thanksgiving dinner
OMAHA, NE (KETV/CNN) - A Nebraska grandmother was shot in the arm while cooking Thanksgiving dinner in her kitchen by a man who was allegedly aiming at children playing in the street.
"They were shooting outside running, I mean going up that hill at those little kids," said Cindy Kellogg, neighbor to the woman who was shot.
The woman's 14-year-old grandson fell while trying to run from the man. Police say they don't know why he aimed for children.
"I want to stay in the house with my mom," said Jazmir Holmes, 8, who plays on the street where shots were fired. "I'm scared."
"It's sad to have to want to move, since I did grow up here," said Jazmir's mother, Mary Holmes. "This was my mom's house before she passed, but I'm looking for something better for my kids."
Doctors say the grandmother is in serious condition but she is expected to survive. Police continue to look for the shooter.

Crossdressing muggers charged in Lincoln Park assaults

Two men dressed as women were charged with mugging a teenage girl Friday as she walked near Lincoln Park Zoo, only minutes after they allegedly assaulted another pedestrian and tried to take his wallet, prosecutors said.
Brandon Arnold, 24, of the 6800 block of South Aberdeen Street, and roommate Michael Burns, 21, appeared in Cook County Central Bond Court charged with robbery and attempted armed robbery, both sporting long, styled hair and gray leggings. Their bond was set at $100,000 each.
Court records say the pair approached a 16-year-old girl as she walked past an alley in the 2300 block of North Lincoln Park West around 2:24 p.m.
Arnold asked the girl for directions, then raised a can of pepper spray and said, "Give me your camera or I'll mace you." The girl gave up her camera, then Arnold allegedly demanded the girl's iPhone and ran off with Brandon down Fullerton Avenue.
Five minutes earlier, prosecutors said Arnold and Burns had attacked a man about half a mile away in the 2600 block of North Cannon Drive.
The victim said one of the men grabbed him from behind and tried to take his wallet, but the man was able to wrestle free.
"When I turned around, one was holding the can of mace, but it must have jammed or it didn't work," the victim said.
The man took off running with Arnold and Burns giving chase. The two alleged muggers gave up as the victim outran them. When he had enough distance from this attackers, the man called police on his cell phone.
The teenage victim was following her attackers down Fullerton when a squad car responding to the first victim's call arrived. Burns and Arnold dropped the phone and camera in some bushes, then dropped the can of pepper spray, court records said.
"It wasn't funny at all," the male victim said Saturday. "These guys attacked two people, minutes apart, in broad daylight in the park."

Former Philadelphia Schools Chief Arlene Ackerman Files Unemployment Claim

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Former Philadelphia schools superintendent Arlene Ackerman, who was given a nearly $1-million buyout earlier this year, has applied for unemployment.
School District spokesman Fernando Gallard today confirmed that Ackerman wants to collect state unemployment benefits.
“The former superintendent did apply for unemployment,” Gallard told KYW Newsradio today.
This comes after taxpayers funded a $905,000 buyout when she was shown the door in August (see related story).
As part of her separation agreement, the School Reform Commission agreed not to contest any unemployment claims she might file.
The news isn’t going over well with Michael Lodise, the head of the school police officers’ union who fought for several months to get unemployment compensation – and eventually succeeded – for 120 school police officers laid off in June.
“These people were really hurting, really needed it,” Lodise recalls. “And here’s a woman with almost a million dollars, and she wants unemployment besides. I just don’t understand it.”
Based on her former salary, Ackerman would be eligible for the state maximum of $573 a week.
Ackerman had no comment, referring questions to her attorney, Dean Weitzman. Weitzman told KYW Newsradio that Ackerman qualifies for unemployment benefits because she is unemployed and was asked to leave the school district but not fired for cause. It will be up to the state unemployment compensation board to approve Ackerman’s claim.

Marauding Mob of 50 Teen-Aged Girls Beats Down 2 NYC Cops

New York City firefighters came to the rescue of two NYPD cops who were outnumbered and getting pummeled by 50 angry female teenagers on Tuesday.
The Firefighters from the FDNY opened up on the violent crowd with a “deluge gun”– which is a high-powered, truck-mounted water cannon–finally causing the mob to disperse.
NYPD officers made nine arrests, but two officers were hospitalized in the attack. Police also recovered a starter pistol, which may have been intended to further terrify the original female target of the mob.
The scene unfolded in New York’s Staten Island borough when a mob of 50 young females gathered outside the home of a single young girl and threatened her. Apparently, the girl had been kept home from school for several days because of repeated and vicious bullying, so the bullies came to her doorstep.
It didn’t take long for the angry mob to become enraged. Staten Island Live reports that at least one bystander, who saw the incident but would not give his name for fear of retaliation, said:
“It was chaos. The yelling got louder and louder and louder… There was probably 50 to 55 kids out here, and they were challenging one girl.”
Witnesses also told police that the mob was challenging the single girl whose residence they surrounded to “come out and fight,” which prompted calls to police.

Woman killed after psycho sets her on fire

A Brooklyn woman was horrifically burned to death in her apartment-building elevator yesterday when a maniac guy-pal sprayed her with flammable liquid and set her alight with a Molotov cocktail, cops said.
“She was screaming at the top of her lungs,” said a resident of the Prospect Heights building who heard the sounds of the struggle at around 4:15 p.m.
The 64-year-old victim, who sources identified as Dolores Gillespie, was returning from grocery shopping when the elevator stopped on the fifth floor of the building at 203 Underhill Ave.
POSSIBLE SUSPECT IN POLICE CUSTODY
Her killer — who is believed to be a current or former boyfriend — was waiting in the hallway to strike.
He was holding two terrifying murder weapons — an exterminator-style spray can filled with flammable liquid and a bottle gas-bomb.
Before Gillespie could even step out of the elevator, the fiend, wearing a dust mask atop his head, doused her with the accelerant.
The liquid’s container had a hose like those commonly found on insecticide cannisters, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said.
“He opens the door and sprayed her methodically over her head, over her body,” Browne said.
“She’s cowering, trying to protect her face with her hands.”
The suspect, described as approximately 40 years old and dressed all in black except for white gloves and the white mask atop his head, stepped out of the elevator and lit the explosive, Browne said.
The killer opened the elevator door again and threw the Molotov onto Gillespie, setting her on fire, Browne said.
But the vicious sicko wasn’t done. He opened the elevator door a final time to spray more accelerant on the burning woman before fleeing, Browne said.
Police sources described the attack as a domestic incident, and Brown confirmed the pair knew each other.
Gillespie’s neighbors were stunned by the hideous crime.
“This is devastating,” said Heidi Matthews, who has known the victim for decades, and said the woman worked for the Post Office.
“She was a fixture in the neighborhood for years. This is unreal. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for you. She bought me flowers for Mothers’ Day.
“She would come home from shopping and say, ‘I have some extra of this, do you need anything?,’ ” said Matthews, 46.
Neighbor Chris Martinez said “she didn’t have any enemies.”
Another neighbor, who heard the victim’s blood-curdling screams, said he rushed out of his apartment to look for the woman.
“I smelled smoke, and then ran back upstairs to call 911,” said the man, who gave his name as David.
“It sounded like a person being attacked, rather than someone stuck in an elevator,” said the neighbor. “It sounded like she was in trouble.”
The fire was raging in the building when residents realized the danger.
“It was a completely glowing flame,” said another tenant, who didn’t want his name revealed.
Five other people were injured, but none seriously.

The madman who burned an elderly Prospect Heights woman to death had been doing odd jobs for her - but was fired after she caught him stealing, her nephew said today.
“He was doing more stealing than cleaning,” said a distraught Rickey Causey, 52, about the man in custody for allegedly setting 64-year-old victim Delores Gillespie on fire Saturday.
Causey said the unidentified suspect - who turned himself into cops at Brooklyn’s 32nd transit district early today reeking of gasoline - had left a note on Gillespie’s door with a list of chores he was demanding payment for.

Dozens of police officers had to break up fights and restore order at a local mall while shoppers were waiting for an overnight sale of a popular tennis shoe.

Click here to view more photos from two malls where the shoes were released The disturbance started inside Carolina Place Mall just after 5am. Witnesses said as mall officials opened the mall doors, crowds of people pushed their way in.
"They almost took the door off the hinges," one shopper who didn't want to be identified said, "there were women with babies in their hands and they on their backs."
Shoppers were in line waiting for the re-release of the Air Jordan XI Concord tennis shoe at Foot Locker, Finish Line and Downtown Locker Room.
Outside the Foot Locker on the second floor, witnesses said some shoppers started jumping the line, then a crowd of people at the back of the line forced their way to the front, causing several people to get angry and become unruly.
Two women were even spotted throwing punches. Neither was immediately arrested.
More than a two dozen officers from Pineville Police and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were stationed inside the mall as the stores continued to make their sales.
It's unclear if any injuries were reported. Police have not reported any arrests.
Outside the mall, crews were cleaning up piles of debris and trash left behind by mall patrons.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say nine people were shot when a fight broke out at a Chattanooga nightclub, where some 400 teens and adults were attending a Christmas party. Police say all those shot are expected to survive.
Chattanooga police said in a press release Sunday morning that an off-duty officer who had been working at Club Fathom fired shots at a suspect who pointed a gun at him, but the gunman got away. The officer was not wounded.
Police Chief Bobby Dodd tells WTVC-TV ( http://bit.ly/tXuRXb ) that a fight broke out at the club around midnight.
No arrests have been made, and it was not immediately known how the fight started.
Police say they are still working to gather details because of the number of victims and possible suspects involved.

BATAVIA, N.Y (WIVB) - A Batavia woman is charged with attacking an elderly greeter who asked to see her receipt at a Wal-Mart on Christmas eve.
Investigators say 26-year old Jacquetta Simmons was at the Ellsworth Avenue store Saturday morning when 70-year old Grace Suozzi asked her to show her receipt.
Simmons allegedly punched Suozzi, knocking her down, and ran out of the store. She was stopped by shoppers and workers and detained until police arrived. State Police say the greeter suffered fractures to the side of her face.
Simmons is charged with two counts of assault and is free on 40-thousand dollars bond. She's due back in court January 23rd.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) – Police arrested nine people at the Mall of America Monday, the day after Christmas, after multiple fights broke out, authorities said.
Mall of America officials released a statement saying that around 4:20 p.m. 50 juveniles caused a large disturbance in the north food court.
Witnesses said the fights started after there were reports that rappers Lil’ Wayne and Drake were visiting the Mall. Police, however, did not comment on these rumors.
Cmdr. Mark Stehlik of Bloomington police said in a press conference that 30 officers responded to the fight and arrested five people (both adults and juveniles) for disorderly conduct.
Mall of America security arrested four other people for disorderly conduct as well, Mall officials said.
Police said as many as 200 were involved the fights. A YouTube video, which contains profanity, shows a fight break out and rage before a police officer interrupts it. The fight occurs at roughly 50 seconds in.
As the fights were popping up, the Mall of America inadvertently called for a lock down. But the lock down was called off minutes later, Mall officials said.
There were no reports of serious injuries, Mall official said.
Although the Mall kept its normal hours, some stores within the Mall closed early.
Some witnesses reported being evacuated from the Mall; but police said that shoppers were escorted toward the east exit to make room for the investigation.
According to Stehlik, no weapons were recovered, and there are no reports of burglary. However, there is YouTube video of chairs being thrown.
Video captured police officers walking with their guns drawn; but police said this was in response to rumors of gun shots having been fired.
“It is very unfortunate to see these incidents occurring, especially during the holiday shopping season when families are out spending time together,” Mall officials wrote in a statement.

Indianapolis Family Stunned; Friend Arrested in 2 Killings

A woman grieving the shooting deaths of her son and granddaughter is now trying to come to grips with news that one of the accused is a longtime family friend whom the 7-year-old victim affectionately called "Uncle Mike."
Michael Bell, 21, played high school football with Jeremy Crane and spent many weekends at the Crane family's ranch-style home in suburban Indianapolis.
On Wednesday, Bell and another man were formally charged in the deaths of Crane, 21, and his niece, Kyleigh Crane.
Cathy Crane, Jeremy's mother and Kyleigh's grandmother, found the bodies Dec. 12 after returning home from work. She said family members had not had any falling out with Bell and are stunned about his alleged involvement in the killings.
(...) A probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday along with the formal charges says a surveillance camera filmed the pair boarding a city bus not long after the slayings... One man carried a loaded backpack onto the bus and the other a jumble of bulky items wrapped in a blanket, authorities allege. Police believe the backpack and blanket were filled with electronic games and other items stolen from the Crane's ranch-style home.
Prosecutors allege Bell showed little emotion as he watched television reports of the killings from his aunt's house...
Cathy Crane said her son and Bell met in the eighth-grade and became close friends who later played on the same high school football team. They spent weekends together horsing around at she and her husband David's home in Cumberland, a town on Indianapolis' far east side where urban sprawl gives way to farm fields.
The family provided Bell unwavering support during his rape trial, she said. He was also charged with criminal confinement, battery, criminal trespass and criminal mischief in two separate cases in 2009 and 2010...

Suspect confesses in Queens firebombings: cops

A man confessed today to hurling crude Molotov cocktails at an Islamic cultural center and four other sites on New Year's Day because of personal grievances with all of the targets, police said, according to a new report.
The Associated Press reported that the man was taken into custody after he was tracked through a car with Virginia license plates that was believed to be at the scene of at least two of the attacks Sunday evening on a convenience store, two homes and the cultural center.
The man, who lives in Jamaica, had furiously vowed to take revenge following his shoplifting arrest last Tuesday.
“When they were pushing him out of the store, he said words to the effect of, ‘We’re going to get even, we’re going to get back at you,’” Police commissioner Ray Kelly said.
The 179th St. Deli was the first of four Queens targets hit by the fire fiend, who also is suspected of striking at an Islamic center, a Hindu temple inside a home and a Jamaica home.
Kelly acknowledged that detectives think a home in Elmont, just over the Queens border, was part of the fiery rampage that stretched from 8 to 10:15 p.m.
“Four of the five attacks, the Starbucks Frappucino bottles were used,” Kelly said. “Our detectives believe that the same individual is responsible for all of these incidents.”
Police had aired a security video from the Hindu temple that showed a man flinging a lit Molotov cocktail over the iron fence.
A sketch of the suspect, who wore a black jacket and a baseball cap, was also released.
Two Molotov cocktails were thrown at the Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center, but none of the worshipers inside were injured.
“Attacks on houses of worship are particularly egregious because simultaneously, they endanger lives but also assail our religious freedoms,” Kelly said.
Iman Maan Al-Sahlani said he was grateful for the NYPD’s efforts in finding the firestarter.
“We have to be shoulder to shoulder,” Al-Sahlani said. “ We have to protect our country, we have to protect our society and the freedom that God gives us.”

Thief Steals Car, Prosthetic Legs From Florida Army Veteran

MIAMI (CBS Tampa) – An Army veteran who has lived the last 20 years of his life in a wheelchair had his car stolen with his prosthetic legs and wheelchair mount inside the car.
Armando Fontaine, 71, lost his legs about 20 years ago due to an infection, rendering him to full-time use of his wheelchair in order to get around. On Monday night, his 1996 Nissan Sentra, which was parked right outside his Miami home, was stolen. But the stolen car is even more devastating for Fontaine as his prosthetic legs and wheelchair mount were inside the car, making it impossible for him to leave his home
“We parked the car at night,” Fontaine told CBS Tampa. “When my wife woke up, the car had disappeared.
“Now, I have to pray they can find that car.”
Blind in one eye, Fontaine is taken to the hospital every week for treatment by his wife, Marta. Fontaine said that with his condition, he can’t afford to miss hospital appointments.
Additional information on the case has yet to be made available by Miami-Dade Police.
While the Fontaines remain hopeful that the car will be returned, the wait is unbearable.
“I am frightened,” the Army veteran said. “They need to find that car. I need it very badly because I cannot move.”

MIAMI (AP) — Seven central Florida teenagers were arrested after authorities said they punched and kicked a 13-year-old until she was unconscious while on a school bus.
The victim told authorities that Friday was her first time riding the bus and no one would let her sit down. About 75 children were riding the bus bound for a middle school in Ocala, a rural city north of Orlando. The victim said someone threw a shoe at her and she threw one back, according to an arrest report.
One girl allegedly asked students if they wanted to hit the victim, then instructed the teens to form a circle and began hitting and kicking the victim. Several witnesses said they saw the girl fall to the floor and "appear to have a seizure and pass out," according to the arrest report.
The victim, who is not being identified, was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a concussion, severe bruising on her head and muscle spasms.
Seven teens, ranging in age from 12 to 15, were charged with battery and disorderly conduct. The Associated Press is not identifying the suspects because they are minors.
The school's bus driver said he saw the fight and pulled the bus over to intervene. The fighting ceased, so he continued driving, but he told authorities the fight broke out again and he couldn't control it so he drove to a nearby school and called officials.
Authorities interviewed all the students on the bus. Ten students said they saw the seven "commit battery upon the victim as a group," according to the report.
One suspect admitted kicking the victim, but said it was an accident. A few claimed they hit her and several others denied it.
Deputy Shannon Wiles wrote in the report that one 14-year-old girl climbed over several seats filled with students to get to the victim and "advised she punched the defendant repeatedly in the head, approximately 10-15 times because the victim called her a name."
School officials said it's unlikely the defendants will be allowed on campus until their cases are resolved.
The Ocala Star-Banner (http://lb.vg/0iLGQ ), which first reported the fight, said school discipline rules call for the students to be expelled or reassigned to another school, according to Marion County Public Schools spokesman Kevin Christian.

Mother Shot & Killed After Yelling At Speeder

Police are looking for leads in the bizarre murder of a mother who tried to slow down a speeding car.
Wendy Fisher, 40, was across the street from her home in the Overlook Heights community when witnesses say a car sped down her street. Fisher signaled for the car to slow down, then the driver stopped the vehicle and at least one person got out and started shooting.
The shooting happened in the light of day, around 6:30 pm on Saturday.
Fisher was shot in her chest. She later died at the hospital.
Police have told WKRG they are looking for three or four black men who were riding in a dark green or grey sedan.

Two men lost their legs after getting into a fight with another man at a Los Angeles strip club, the Los Angeles Times reports.
A fight, which allegedly included racial slurs, broke out inside the club at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday and continued in the parking lot, where 40-year-old Terrence Conrad Meeks is accused of ramming the other two men with a car, pinning the victims between two vehicles.
The two men were taken to a Los Angeles hospital, where one man had both legs amputated above the knee. The other man had his right leg amputated above the knee, doctors told the Los Angeles Times.
Meeks is charged with attempted manslaughter and DUI.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local family is accused of beating up a bar security guard, after a DJ wouldn’t play the song they had requested.
It happened at the bar Savoy in the Strip District, this past weekend.
Police say 29-year-old Dion Daye Jr. ,who requested the song, was arrested, in addition to two family members, 50-year-old Dion Daye Sr. and 25-year-old Dorian Daye, after they all teamed up and attacked a security guard.
The DJ’s refusal to play their song allegedly upset the trio which was asked to leave. Then Dion Daye Jr. allegedly punched the security guard. The fight then escalated with family members using objects in the bar to continue attacking the security guard.
The security guard is currently in the hospital, police say.
All three family members are charged with disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and conspiracy-aggravated assault.

A pregnant woman was nearly killed when a woman also pregnant with her boyfriend's child deliberately slammed into her with a car, Houston police said.
The injured woman, who is five-months pregnant, was pinned between the wall of a house and a car driven by Shareyll Hunter, KTRK reported.
The attack was the culmination of a love triangle among Hunter, 26, her ex-boyfriend Christopher Chaney and the victim: Chaney's new girlfriend Alise Kelley, 21, Houston's Fox 26 station reported.
Kelley is in the hospital with two broken legs, CW39 NewsFix reported. Her unborn child is reportedly OK, but doctors might have to amputate one or both of her legs.
Chaney, who has two children already with Hunter, said that the two women have been arguing continuously for days on end.
"They just don't like each other. I don't know if it's because of me or what. I mean, I am handsome," Chaney said, according to KTRK.
After allegedly ramming into Kelley outside Chaney's house, police contend that Hunter drove off with her ex's Lincoln Continental LS, KHOU reported.
