Title: Study Discovers That People Who Post Gym Selfie May Have Psychological Problems
Post by: WannaBePro on June 01, 2015, 05:23:28 AM
Quote
We all have those “friends” who have to let us know that they went to the gym. Well, it turns they might actually have a psychological problem causing them to become selfie-mad.

A study at Brunel University found that person who constantly brag about fitness tend to be fueled by narcissism – a psychological problem where people gain pleasure from admiring themselves. Which then translates into annoying “sun’s out, guns out” kind of posts all over your timeline, in a hope for likes and comments to boost the ego.

Narcissists also wrote more status updates about their diet and exercise routine, suggesting that they use Facebook to broadcast the effort they put into their physical appearance.

The survey measured personality traits such as extroversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness. It also found that Facebook users who post a sh*t load of updates about their boyfriend or girlfriend have lower self-esteem and that those who are more conscientious tend to post more updates about their children.

Describes about 100% of the IFBB and probably 80% of serious gym goers. Myself included...  :-X

Yes, selfie takers are indeed retarded, but in my experience I'd estimate that 40-50% of people in this world have some sort of psychological problem and/or mental illness.  Just observe all the idiots who are addicted to their cell phones and text messaging... a total waste of life and time.  I would never want any part of that nonsense.

Hardcore bodybuilders were always attention seeking, self absorbed , drug using douchebags LOL.
BUT, the female fitness model , is a new virulent strain of attention ho.

I have friends on my Facebook that are self-absorbed, and clearly have psychological issues by the sheer number of selfies they have on their Facebook albums.  Everything they do... they have to take a selfie and post it.  Everywhere they go... they have to take a selfie and post it.  Dudes are doing this too.  Posing for a selfie in front of a plate of food, and shit like that.

18 years of training, 10 years of owning smart phones and I've never taken a selfie in my life. Never mind in the gym.

Is there any other normal, sane and non narcissistic people left? I can't be the only one.

I'm just playing the game man, while being very aware of what's happening "behing the curtains" at the same time. It's like posting a pic of a hot gf/expensive car to make other ppl feel bad (if they doesn't have none). Animalistic pleasure/fun.

-Just wondering, what do you think of those who ask strangers to take a photo whilst they flex. Is this better or worse than taking a selfie?

Instagram opened up a can of worms with mentally insecure people everywhere and now they can express themselves and the approval of strangers

I have a Facebook, Twitter and IG account and there isn't a selfie, physique shot anywhere. Only on GB. None of my "friends" even know I lift, FFS. I don't want to be a douche.

Most of my peers are typical deconditioned fatasses but I still like them as friends, so I don't want to be "that guy"

Fuck it, here I am in the bottom 50% of physiques so it's all good. A few "YLLS, HTH" keeps me motivated in the gym.

Not as mental, but still narcissistic.  I sometimes wish I had taken pics of myself in my 20's when I was in tip-top shape.. oh well.

I once took a "selfie" when I was 13 years old with my Dad's Polaroid One Step camera.  A few years after that I took a few pics of my erect cock and gave them to my girlfriend.  I wonder if she still has them?   ;D
