Title: I saw Wolf on Wall Street last night
Post by: Cleanest Natural on January 12, 2014, 10:29:30 AM
I must admit, it is difficult to find a more obscene, crude, graphic and violent movie. WTF is wrong with people nowadays when something like this passes as entertainment?

PS: I have never seen anything as creepy as the fat kid with fake teeth in my life (well, maybe a few getbiggers can be creepier)

That's funny you say that because yesterday I was listening to NPR (very liberal radio  :-X ) on the way to a buddies house, there was an interview with DiCaprio. Upon conclusion of the interview and right before break, the announcer said, "you must be at least 18 to see this movie or be accompanied by someone who is and they will very much regret bringing you to see it."

It certainly caught my attention, and now this. Guess I'll go have to see it. lol

Random bald Romanian schooling Martin Scorsese on what makes a movie good and bad. I'm sure he will take your criticism to heart. It's a movie that glorifies the problem with culture today and our need for excess.

Had family over, did a quick preview of the movie to see if it was acceptable to watch, within the first 3 minutes saw dicaprio tossing midgets, getting a blowjob in his car and sucking drugs out of a whores butthole and decided it probably wasn't family entertainment.

The books gave you an idea of what went on, but never really keyed in on the specific acts.   It was more like "we had crazy parties with lots of hookers", but then moved past it.  I guess the movie tries to portray all this, but I haven't seen it.

But that was and still is the life of many wall street people. The movie captures how many people on wall street behave (drugs, hookers, scandals). Living in NYC, you definitely see assholes like that walking around, arrogant as anything. To you, its impossible to understand how and why a movie like this could be someones life, given you live on the opposite end of the world. But this is the life of many wall street stockbrokers. Obviously, it was exaggerated for the movies. Still, there is a large portion of the movie that rings true.

Sure  :D :D

Then you will have known that in the 80s people that were brokers did leave exaggerated lifestyle. Are you saying this is not the case?

I did write that the movie was exaggerated. But many things rings true. IF you were a stock broker, then you should easily know that drugs, hookers, and scandals are probably NOT rare with these guys. So whats so surprising?

Sounds like "Ted".  A friend talked me into buying the Blu Ray, saying it was hilarious!

It took me two days to watch it.  It sucked.  Bathroom humor of the worst kind.  This new film sounds like a moneyed up version of "Ted".  Gratuitous stupidity for the mAsses.

No, your initial point was that you cannot fathom how our current society can find such entertainment and possibly humor in something so crude and vile, etc. That how can we as a society sit here and actually laugh at this sort of movie, given its crude nature.

Yes, I get it.

Watched it two days ago... definitely worth watching, even though it's 3 hours... not sure why Sev is finding it too much... It's a Scorsese movie not Disney... and a black comedy...

Anyway it's based on this guy's autobiography... so not it's based on a true story to some extent... whatever that means (maybe 1% true lol)...

In my early thirties I used to hang out with a similar crowd for almost a year. After that it took a long time to start enjoying life again without being so "amp'd up'.

The fact of the matter is that he missed the point of the whole movie. He is so taken aback by how people could find this movie entertaining when it was so crude and vile. Yet, you would think someone who supposedly worked on wall street would know that this IS the reality of some peoples lives. Like it or not, its the way it is for some people, yet its so impossible to find entertainment in something that is reality for some people.

This movie is high entertainment value per dollar spent.  3 hours long too... go see it.

I remember visiting a very high class strip joint in NYC about 10 years ago... the most gorgeous women you ever saw in your life.  A bunch of Wall Street guys were there parting like hell and putting $50 and $100 bills into this girls G string like it was nothing.  Chick must have made several $1000 bucks in less than 2 hours.  Not bad for a few hours work.

smart man, I remember when the first Blade came out with Wesley snipes.
I hired the DVD, mum, dad, aunty, little brother and sister gathered around to watch it, as the intro credits were coming up, there in a nightclub and theres a dude getting a blowjob for about 3 seconds, I was hopin no one saw it, my dad did see it, he turned the movie off and we watched the news.

I actually watched this movie yesterday as well.  I don't recall any real violence.  In terms of violence, there was virtually NONE compared to the average American movie which is normally littered with gun play and countless people dying a horrible violent death.  It was based on a true story, so I suppose they were trying to portray what actually happened and what the financial industry is like in some sectors.  What I don't understand is you come across as some uptight religious zealot/moral crusader who is easily offended and yet you watch crappy American movies that are almost always immoral, crude and violent.  Why do you do this to yourself?

Saw it yesterday. Exaggerated but hilarious. Will be part of my collection. The real guy who the movie was based on appears in the last. Apparently most of the stuff was true. Apparently leo beat pitt for the rights to the movie.

Some truly hilarious scenes in the movie. Well worth the watch

Book was entertaining in a stupid kind of way, where you're reading and your brain just shuts off.

I have to laugh at all the people I hear talking about the movie in the gym, work, and at school as if they're going to be the next boiler room mega brokers to take companies public, etc. Too bad that was then and this is now, haha.

I agree with CleanNat though. What is wrong when movies like this are now entertainment. It was close to being cancelled during filming because of budget issues and I am guessing they were having trouble finding investors. Oh, well.

you have to understand the kind of guy who works in a bucket-shop who does pump&dump/boilerroom shit.. they're a 'unique' kind of person. they're loudmouths and they lie and exaggerate everything. they're usually broke as hell for a long time, but some of their friends make a lot of money, so as soon as they hit a big commission check, they blow their money and live like white rap stars until they're broke again and when the money's gone, they'll tell stories and relive their 'glory days', except they'll embellish it x10.

there's a reason they're working in a fucking bucketshop in the first place, and not working for a respectable firm as a broker or prop trader... 90% of these guys are losers and bullshit artists. 90% have no long-term goals or investment strategy.. they're just hustlers and con-men. and if you've ever been to prison (or rehab), you know the stories that hustlers and con-men tell that tell that glorify their past lifestyle.

is the movie true? sorta... take a little bit of truth and embellish it. Jordan doesn't do that just with the movie, he does it with everything he does and everybody he talks to from the dude who takes his order at Burger King, to the lady interviewing him for 60Minutes. he's telling a story he wishes was true.. how it would've turned out in his mind.

Is Hollywood following the liberal rant of rich businessmen are evil and protest Wall Street? I guess outlandish wealth is okay if you are an entertainer who works 3 months out of the year but if you work on Wall street you're a drug using decadent dirt bag. If you want Wall Street to fail you want this country to fail because every major business is represented there. So many retirement accounts and savings are tied into Wall Street investments. I bet all the multimillionaires who were involved in making the movie have their investments traded in the stock market.

I watched it with my wife lol it was definitely very crude and vulgar but I think that was the message they were trying to get across.  This guy lived in a life of absurd excess fueled by sex, drugs, and money.  It just had to be so over the top to get the point across!

Like Motley Crüe in the 80s.

The books were shit. A midget with a chip on his shoulder. Always bagging WASPs and had more excuses than Arnold.

Still, the movie might be interesting to see Scorsese's take on it.

Movie is awesome...naked women and drugs everywhere...what more do you want?

 Bunch of homos.

Yes homos on getbig as usual ;D

I saw it a week ago.

Yes it was not suitable to watch with my boss and my gf.. But it was good. A movie to watch with your guy friends!

That scene that you posted is censored.. The real one is better.

LOL 0:12 Shane is just like in Walking Dead with his "let me ax you sump'n."

Good to see that fat jewish fellow (Jonah hill) still working the same obese roles.

Will he ever try another role where he needs to get in shape?

Not if he likes his paycheck

You like him to try out for a action hero role or somethin'?

:)

Seems you guys are not in tune with brokers in the 80s, 90s and today.  A lot of smart numbers guys leave Yale, Princeton etc... get a job at these places, bust their asses for 5-6 years, taking their college adderal addictions with them and turning it into a coke addiction, a lot will makes millions in their short careers and then take off for the beaches of Florida or Cali where they startup a little strip mall brokerage place while sitting on the millions they make.  I know a few people like this.

So far the movie has set the record for most uses of the F-word in a movie with 506.

Supercut of All 522 F-Bombs Dropped in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’

The Wolf of Wall Street" is the most fuck-filled non-documentary movie in the history of Hollywood. We counted 522 audible, intelligible fucks. ("The Big Lebowski" only had 260.)

Huh? The King of Comedy, that was great. Dog movie? No idea, gal.

It's slowly become my favorite Scorsese film, I didn't appreciate it when I was younger, but it's grown on me over the years.

.

As for the The Wolf of Wall Street, I'd give it right about an 8, just right on the line. I found that the campy nature of it got a bit tedious after a while.

I just read the 1st page + some and I must becoming desensitized
to stuff I watch. The thing that bothered me on a moral level
was ripping off all those people of their money.
I can understand wanting to live most of your waking hours under the influence
of something if it makes you feel better. (Not talking extremes in the movie like
the qualudes did)..not remembering what you had done the night before.
I thought the movie was awesome and enjoyed pretty much the whole thing.
If Getbiggers are saying it's too much then I might need to check myself
although my times of wild parties with strippers and assorted candies are
a thing of the past.
I did feel bad for really LOLing when those old Ludes took him too a different phase
he had never been...the cerbal palsy phase + the way he moved on the ground;
way too funny not too laugh but still felt bad about it.

They bring the best actors and scripts etc but overall it is very vile and crude and presents humans as drugged up and greedy without remorse .. worse than animals really.

Honnestly, that movie flat out SUCKED

I left before the end, as did a lot of people

There's nothing funny about watching some dudes take all the drugs known to men and act like complete idiots..

Don't understand why the critics liked the movie so much, it sucked.

I tought it would be more about finance and business, like the movie Wall Street

That would be because most Hollywood directors are sick twisted pieces of Sh!t.

Fortunately, because of the Internet, Hollywood is becoming less and less relevant. It won't be missed.
