even now and then I'll take a cheesy 20 second bass solo live... but really, I put myself nowhere near near the skill level needed. I can sing some Kid Rock or Save a horse, and I can pack that dance floor, but slapping and popping for 3 straight minutes... to me, that loses the momentum live.

I think it's because I don't see bar gigging as a place for "musicianship"... it's about looking good, playing good songs, encouraging a feelgood time where everyone gets laid and has 3 drinks. They'd rather hear an average band play Mustang Sally than some Berk grad playing note-for-note Steve Vai.
