Ronnie was still good prior to 97. In the 96 Olympia he was given sixth and he was screwed there - should have been at least fourth.

People definitely saw him coming.

In a way, prior to 98, from 96-97 Coleman was very much like Mustafa today. If he got his condition down, he had a great chance at becoming Mr. Olympia.

Why nobody saw Ronnie Coleman coming?

1) He turned pro somewhat inconspicusouly (at the Universe, in 1991).

2) He placed "16th" in his first Olympia appearance.

3) It took him four years to win a pro show.

4) His highest Olympia placing, prior to 1998 was 6th....after one of the top guys got DQed.

5) The year before he won it all, he placed 9th.

It's mostly the judges part, rewarding things such as muscularity over absolute condition. For example, Heath could very likely ruin his physique thinking he needs to be 260lbs like Coleman to win the Mr. Olympia when in fact the great champions of bodybuilding simply focused on being the best they could be.

When are the judges going to reward the GOOD athletes instead of the freaky ones? Freaky doesn't neccesarily mean it's the best. It may be something different for the judges when doing the job they find so boring, but that doesn't mean they deserve to be rewarded. Most of these guys look like big sacks of steroid-overdose users. Are the judges blind? Or did Ronnie cum in their eyes too?

I liked ronnie along time before he won the O. Ronnie did really well on the Euro tour in 92, I think. He placed 3rd in front of Nasser, then they flip flopped the next year. Ronnie would always be top 5 in the smaller shows and up until a point I did believe he was natty-I was very niave back then as to what you could achieve without roids. I remember when Ronnie beat Flex at the canada cup in 96, man I was fired up for him. If you can find pics of them from the 96 NOC they both look awsome. I thought Ronnie was great building up to his first olympia win...in fact the only pic I ever cut out of a flex is one of Ronnie doing a front lat spread from 1 of the shows right before his 1st olympia win-the one right before the NOC that year, he just looked incredible to me. I had no problem with him until a couple of years ago. He WAS probably the best of alltime at one point now I think he's just terrible...the gut, the lack of detail, the loss of definition in his back..yeah he's 300lbs but so was kovaks at one point

Damn. Why on Earth judges espouse sloppy physiques over those like in the pictures posted earlier is forever beyond my grasp.
