Gas Prices Continue to Drop Nationwide, Survey Finds
Sunday, August 10, 2008

CAMARILLO, Calif. —  A national survey shows gas prices continue dropping across the nation.

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline at self-serve stations was $3.85 Friday, down almost 15 cents from two weeks ago.

Mid-grade went for $3.98 and premium went for $4.10. That's according to the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations nationwide, released Sunday.

Diesel was at $4.64.

The cheapest gas was in Tulsa, Okla., where a gallon of regular cost $3.50. Anchorage, Alaska, was most expensive at $4.37.

The California average was $4.10, down 22 cents from two weeks ago.

The Western states were the only region in the U.S. where gas remained above $4 a gallon on average.

Today I smiled as I only paid $3.74

I guess our reality goggles change.  Two years ago, I would have urinated on the Mobil parking lot before paying that much.  Now I'm celebrating.

Well, now that the investors have stopped pushing the price of oil up it has to go down.

Shouldn't have been that high anyway.

I'm a capitalist, but fuck man... being able to change the price of oil and in turn damn near everything else by simply buying or selling on the futures is fucking ridiculous.

The derivatives market does not change the price of oil/gas as much as people would like to believe this has already been proven in several cases against hedge fund managers in Montreal. UK's FRC acknowledged this.

Politicians that are less informed, have to point the finger at someone.

Other financial crisis...Wall Street takes credit for those

Yes, it has come down a bit but its still very high compared to last year.  Prices for all businesses, flights, truckers and shipping are still ridiculously high.  The decrease is a good sign but we must do more to prevent disasters like this which affect all aspects of our economy.

IMO, this minor blip is due to the increased strength of the US Dollar.
Besides, ...the price of gas always dips going into an election.

Just as I predicted in 2006 just before the midterms, ...this is just the calm before the storm.
None of you believed me then, and look what happened,  ...are you going to belief me now?

LOL... you did predict they'd drop it before elections, then we'd get raped in the next two years.

I'll give ya that, you did nail that one.  What is your bet for 2008?  how low do they go before elections, and how high does it go during mccain's first term vs obama's first term?

Holy crap, Einstein has cornered the market. She figured out, that when the dollar dips, gas falls, stocks rise, and commodities fall.

If I gave you my predictions and you acted upon them, ...you might be accused of 'insider trading'.   :o
I'd never want to put that kind of burden on you.  :P

I honestly believe that an Obama presidency will see lower oil prices.
Don't get me wrong, I think they will start to rise again post election, but not to the extent we've seen under bush.
I do predict that an Obama presidency will see a huge upswing in the value of the US dollar which will help.
If McCain steals the presidency (which is the only way he'd get it at this point) all hell will break loose.

Regardless of the outcome, ...I've positioned myself to benefit from either scenario.

I know... it continually cracks me up!

Here in Toronto, ...we're at $4.83 / gallon, and people are relieved.
I remember when they were screaming bloody murder at $3.78 / gallon

Eventually you will reach $5.00 a gallon, ...the oil companies demand it. They want more profits.

Absolutely true... I said this after Katrina though when gas was up to 2.30.

It will always go "down", but it will never drop to past prices.

Apparently she can do what several thousand Ivy league graduates, i-bankers, and star hedge fund managers couldn't. Shame she wastes it peddling shitty gas caps while they make millions doing everything wrong.  ::)

its a great buisness strategy. raise it up 1$, then drop it 50 cents. everyones happy because prices are back down, and you just added a 50 cent profit.

That actually works out to a .75 cent profit if you're watching it closely enough.  :D
