Just saw "The Life Before Her Eyes" !!

And have to say it moved me.  :)  It's about best friends, the good Christian, and smart but semi-slutty girl, who are trapped in a school bathroom in the middle of a Columbine type mass murder, when the shooter finds them and offers them a choice of who will die. It fast forwards to Uma Thurman playing the wracked-with-guilt, semi- slutty girl survivor, who has become an upper middle class married woman/art history prof, with a beautiful little child.  The movie plays out in fast forwards and flash backs, as she becomes more and more freaked with the 15th anniversary of the massacre approaching.

It's filled with such lovely imagery of what memories of childhood are, including lots of lush flowers, rain, close-ups of caterpillars crawling on leaves, over-ripe peaches, unmade rooms, which all sounds dumb, except that it's worked in dreamlike, with imminent regrets, and the fear of the moment when your death might be upon you. It's also kind of an anti-abortion flick... which is what the critics didn't like, but I thought it worked fine. It's a puzzle movie, and the woman who wrote the book is a poet, so guess that's why the imagery was so intense. In the book version both girls were supposed to die... but the publishers didn't like that unhappy ending.

Anyway... hope everyone who reads this board has a most amazing Sunday, and whether or not you believe in natural selection, or that God created all  :) that everyone enjoys all the beauty of summer.
