Gov. Cuomo dropped from LGBT gala set to honor him

Gov. Andrew Cuomo was set to be the primary honoree at the LGBT Bar of New York’s 2021 gala but when news broke of allegations he sexually harassed a former aide, he was scrubbed from the event.
Early Wednesday, a few hours before a Medium post on the alleged harassment was published, the LGBT Bar of New York sent an email announcing Cuomo as this year’s “Community Vision Award Recipient.”
“For decades, the LGBT Bar Association Foundation of Greater New York, LeGaL, has bestowed the Community Vision Award upon individuals or organizations with a distinguished record of service to the LGBTQ community, including a sustained commitment to achieving equal rights for all members of our community,” the email reads.
It includes a long list of accomplishments the non-profit worked with Cuomo on, including the repealing of the “walking while trans ban” and the passage of GENDA, which prohibits discrimination based on gender identity in New York.
But when it came time for the virtual gala Thursday evening, Cuomo wasn’t mentioned by the hosts once, a video of the event on YouTube shows.
“With the help of the LGBT Bar of New York, we have achieved so many major victories right here in New York,” master of ceremonies Marti Gould Cummings, a drag artist and City Council candidate, said at the start of the event as they rattled off a list of accomplishments they’d credited Cuomo for in the email without mentioning the embattled gov.
The gala went on to celebrate five other honorees for the group’s “Community Excellence Award,” naming them and congratulating them on their success without any mention of Cuomo.
Cuomo’s office has repeatedly denied the allegations.
