I have to be in at 8am. Surgery won't happen until a few hours after. They say it can take anywhere between 2-6 hours. I will be there overnight and discharged Friday afternoon.
And thank you Stella :-*

Good luck with everything Laura! What exactly are you having surgery on?

Can't wait to have you back, hot stuff 8)
I am sure everything will work out fine!

Jedi.. I'm having surgery on my heart. It is called an ablation. They go in through an artery in the groin and travel up to the heart. Then they burn a tunnel from one side of the heart to the other side (because there is no opening or valve they can go through to get there) and once in the other side they will burn a few places. There are electrical cells that are very chatty or aggressive causing me to go into a-fib all the time. They cannot remove these cells so what they do is burn the tissue around them to cause scar tissue to be created over them. Once that is done the cells cannot "chat" to each other and cause me to go into a-fib. There is a 65% chance this will work first time around. If it doesn't they will do it again in a couple months and that has a 90% chance of working. If per chance that doesn't work either...then they will discuss pace makers. :(
Columbusdude82.. Thank you. :-* I'm sure everythinf will be fine too! I'm a tough cookie to crumble. ;)

Laura, my father just had that done, he had no problems. He had the shock treatment to see if they could "flip" it, that didn't work, and then he took these meds where he had to stay in the hospital in case he went into a-fib, neither worked for longer than a month, so they went in and burned his heart. His heart I guess would go in and out of rhythm, he never knew it was happening, it was caught on a life insurance exam, and it even when in and out on the same day!
You'll be fine! ;) :-*
-
Awwww. I luf Jedi :-*

Hi Flower. Yeah, I had been scheduled for the cardioversion (shocking of the heart) over a month ago, but while prepped for it my heart wasn't in a-fib so they decided not to do it. I have been on a couple different heart medications (beta-blockers) but they weren't working even when maxed out so they decided this was the only option I had left, otherwise I am in a high risk for having a stroke. :( Hopefully by this time tomorrow I will be able to move my legs and walk around. lol And by this time next week feeling like my old self again. :)

Good luck sweetie...I'll be thinking about you!!!

Hi everyone. im home now and wanted to thank you for all your well wishes and love. i did end up having a bleed out last night which prolonged my time to walk but finally was able to get out of bed at 1am :D I am still in pain on each side of my groin and my heart, but they say its normal. should go away in a week or so. i am just so happy its over and hopefully i won't need a repeat procedure. so im just taking it easy and letting mike help do everything ;D he's so cute!
-
Welcome back, hotstuff ;)
I've missed you :)
-
Get well soon dweetir!
(what is a bleed-out?)
-
Good stuff Laura, glad it went well
-
Get well soon dweetir!
(what is a bleed-out?)
they went through the femoral arteries in my groin to my heart. so when they remove the catheters from the groin, they apply LOTS of pressure because the bleeding is very bad. after it stops they put tight dressings on it and you can not move for 6 hours. after 4 house they allow you to roll a little to give ya some sanity, lol, then after 6 you can try to get up. well when i did my roll....my right groin started bleeding profusively. they had to use some kind of stuff to stop it and then repack it...then i had to start my 6 hours again from that point. so i didn't get to move until 1am. totally sucked. i was afraid to move all night. only slept from 4am to 7am.
-
Good to hear its over, hopefully you recover real quick!!!! :)
-
Laura, Get will soon

How long till you'll be 100%? From the way it sounds, everything is going fine so far, health-wise.
-
Good luck for a speedy recovery. Sounds painful.

All the best ;)

Hi Pandi, I should be feeling much better within a week (more normal) but still have to take things slow through then. I should know if the ablation was a success within 6 weeks. I could still have bouts with a-fib until then, but if it was a success...they will lessen and would be gone by then. If they are not, they will schedule me for a repeat procedure. First time ablations are usually 65% effective at curing the problem, second time ablation 90%. I'm hoping due to my age and otherwise good health that I fall in the 65% first time cure rate. :) So far...I haven't felt myself go into a-fib, but unfortunately I didn't always know I was in a-fib when I was. :-\
Thanks OS, stella (aka dweetir), columbusdude, cq, quickerblade, fakechestguy (aka scott), chaos and powerpack :-*

Praying that you in the 65% dweetir :)

I must have missed this post Flower. How is your dad doing now? Did he have to have a repeat or did it work first time around? I hope he is doing much better now.
Thank you for sharing this info.
BIG HUGS!!! :-*
-
good luck with the healing Laura
hope it goes well :)
-
Laura, what did they say about working out? Life changes after?
Do you go back to "normal"?
-
Laura, i know it sounds dumb, but just take it easy, dont do anyhting, let mike do everything, recovery is the most vital part of any operation.

cmon mike, were guys, just ACT like your doing everything!
-
Nordic: Thank you I will :)
CO: So far I believe there are no restrictions once I am healed. This was to correct the a-fib which was prohibitting me from training and whatnot. I am still being treated for the sarcoidosis (will be for another 4 mounth).
Quickerblade: I am resting. When I do too much I know it as the incisions in my groins hurt and make it hard to walk. Mike has been very good at helping me out and taking care of me when I need something. :)

Ah, thats good Laura, so it will actually make things better.
But yes, err on the side of safety, take extra recuperation time.
I only cringe to think of Mike being responsible, but I guess he can pull it together for a bit :D
-
Laura Lee is a phine lookin piece of @$$ and she will be back!!!

Hi everyone! Thank you all for the well wishes and sweet words (columbusdude ;D).
Things are looking pretty good. I'm moving around a bit better. Still some pain in the legs (once in a while in the heart, but they said that was normal as it's healing) but I haven't had any episodes of a-fib as of yet! :D
I can't wait to get back into the swing of things and back in the norm. :)
My love to you all for all your prayers, thoughts and concerns! :-*

Great update Laura! :)

I know that having Mikey clean the house, do the laundry and wash the new car would be a great help for the heart.
but he needs to wear the medically approved French Maid outfit for you to gain the full benefits ;D
