Do you drive the nicest car your income will allow?
If you got a pay raise of 25,000 a year, would you upgrade cars to a nicer model?
What % of your yearly income do you spend on vehicles?

I agree. Horrible investment. What other "asset" can you purchase that loses money as soon as you take ownership? Most of the high net worth people I know and work with do not spend a significant amount of money on cars.

I wonder if the fact we have free time to post here is a reflection of our NOT being stuck with a 70-hour week job just to cover car payment and insurance.

A new car is never an investment anyway. But to answer 240's question.....
If I did receive that kind of pay raise it would very difficult for me to not buy some sort of vehicle upgrade.
I just like the finer things in life, I guess. And as long I'm not in over my head financially, then why not? Being single correlates with that type of behavior. When you have a family, indulging in a new ride for just you seems kind of silly and maybe selfish.

;D True, but we're talking about spending generally about $1k or less vs. five or six figures.
I'm actually going to buy a "work" computer in the near future and set up a home office so I spend more time out of the office.

No , I had a nicer car when I was 16(a grand national and a trans am) than I do now. I drive a boring Grand Prix. Maybe when I go through my midlife crisis in a couple of years I'll splurge. :)

I drive a Landcruiser. It is about what I can afford, I've had lumbar surgery so I have to be very picky. I would not give it up except for the lexus that is basically the same but $30,000 more.

No, but I live in the best house my income will allow.
Car's depreciate as soon as you take 'em off the forecourt. Your money's never wasted in property.

yes..i'm driving a 14 y/o tercel with a 105k miles on it..i'd buy a newer/used car but definitely would not make the mistake of buying a brand new car again..
0%--i have no car payments..just insurance, gas, repairs etc..

I would pay off my car. Invest the rest, or use it for starting a business. And wait till the market for a E46 M3 comes down. Leguna Seca Blue, Please.

What % of your yearly income do you spend on vehicles? Just gas and insurance but of course I'm saving money and some of that will eventually go to a new car. In some cases the more money you get the less you try to impress.

I love to spend on many things... cars aren't one of them. Once you get married and your ability to get laid isn't at all affected by the car, and unless your career requires you to impress superficial clients with a nice ride, it's a pretty big waste.

Don't really care about impressing women, although having a nice ride does help. Just an enthusiast, no huge fqing rims, no big stereos, just want a wolf in sheep's clothing. All that mess is a waste of money. If I am unlucky enough enough to get married, my wife will probably get jealous of the car.

Haha. That's actually true for me except my wife is jealous of my computer. Every time I upgrade it (new graphics card, memory, etc) she gets so mad as if I've commited a crime by spending money on something that isn't her. I just laugh at her. :)

Compounding of money is one of the best money makers out there. If you cant afford to buy it, dont. Plenty of time once you become wealthy to indulge in all the finer things.
