I have a small frame too. The first time I saw pictures of Means at the 1976 Mr. America it was shocking. I never saw anyone that ripped. I use to read a lot about bodybuilders like Means to find out how they trained. It seems Nautilus HIT crowd claimed him as one of their own but a Bill Reynolds interview contradicts that. In the interview Means said he divided his body in a half body type split. He used tri sets and giant sets with very little rest between sets. I know he trained at what I think was a home gym of an physician friend of his that had conventional equipment and Nautilus. Means also trained for a brief period with Arthur Jones. What I didn't know until recently is that he competed in power lifting for a period after leaving bodybuilding. Means worked in law enforcement prior to retirement.

He continues to train hard today in his 60's. He competed for awhile in sprint triathlons where the distances are shorter than full length triathlons. He logs a lot of miles on his bicycle but maybe a year ago had a bad spill where he was rushed to the hospital. He seems okay now. Two years ago I was in South Carolina on vacation working out in a gym owned by a retired cop. He told me Means works out there but I didn't see him the week I was there working out.
