2021 = worst year of "leadership" by a POTUS in history.

Icing on the cake is admitting the govt can't actually do anything about Covid in the final week of the year. GTFOH
QFT.

Scarborough: COVID Testing Not Necessary, So Don't Blame Biden For Botching It!
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Suddenly so forgiving, that Joe Scarborough!

On today's Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough admitted that last week, he felt the Biden administration had "terribly botched" things "as far as [COVID] testing goes."

But on second thought . . . nope! Don't blame Biden for botching the availability of testing. Because . . . testing isn't necessary!

Biden disapproval hits new high as voters give him bad grades on economy, new CNBC/Change poll says
CNBC ^ | January 4, 2022 | Thomas Franck
Posted on 1/4/2022, 9:15:40

President Joe Biden’s disapproval rating hit a new high in December as more voters signaled their unhappiness with his administration’s supervision of the economy and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fifty-six percent of voters now say they disapprove of the job Biden is doing, the worst such reading of his presidency as he approaches the end of his first year in office, according to new CNBC/Change Research polls. Prior polls in the series showed Biden’s disapproval rating at 54% in early September and 49% in April.

Biden’s approval rating is now at 44%, down from 46% in September and 51% in April.

The latest sign of trouble for Biden comes as his administration looks to tackle a wide range of economic and political problems ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, which will decide the balance of power in Congress.

The White House is scrambling to quell fears about price acceleration and inflation, resurrect the president’s Build Back Better climate-and-family legislation, and rejuvenate the country’s public health response as the omicron variant drives a new spike in Covid cases.

Frustrations over the economy are the main culprit behind Biden’s flagging popularity as nearly every demographic declared it their No. 1 issue.

The economy was the top priority for men and women, every age cohort, Latino and white voters, and those with and without college educations. Black respondents, who named racism their chief priority, said the economy takes second place.

Sixty percent of the survey’s 1,895 respondents said they disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, marking a six-point decline in approval from September.

On personal economic issues, voters are even more likely to criticize the president. Some 72% disapprove of his handling of the price of everyday goods, while 66% disapprove of his efforts to help their wallets.

Biden knows his vax mandates are unconstitutional — but just doesn’t care
NY Post ^ | September 10, 2021 | Andrew C. McCarthy
Posted on 1/10/2022, 11:56:58 AM by george76

resident Joe Biden is not chastened by the Supreme Court smackdown .. when the justices invalidated the eviction moratorium that even administration officials acknowledge was patently lawless right before Biden reissued it.

...

The administration is similarly well aware that the national vaccine mandate that the resident is poised to issue is unlawful. White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain made the obvious explicit by retweeting a progressive commentator’s observation that the ploy of imposing the vaccine requirement as a workplace-safety rule under OSHA .. is the “ultimate work-around.”

Translation: The resident knows that an executive order mandating COVID vaccination would be shot down instantly, so he’s trying to camouflage it in a maze of Labor Department regulation.

...

It has been nearly 40 years since OSHA tried that trick . . . mainly because the courts struck it down, on an asbestos regulation, in 1983.

In a sensible world, where the originalist interpretation of the Constitution governed, Biden’s move would be patently unconstitutional. Congress has no overarching public-health authority.

OSHA relies for its regulations on Congress’ power under the commerce clause. But a vaccine isn’t even commerce, let alone interstate commerce.

In our federalist system as originally designed, the states were to be sovereign in governing their internal affairs. In that tradition, it is the states, not the federal government, that have imposed vaccination requirements, particularly in schools.

...

Sadly, we are sure to see more instances of overreach. At this point, Biden is not so much trying to impose his will as to use — or better, abuse — the levers of executive power in a way that assures progressives that he is on their side. For this resident, his sworn duty to execute the laws faithfully is beside the point.

Biden Begins 2022 Continuing to Fail on Covid
Townhall.com ^ | January 11, 2022 | Tommy Hicks
Posted on 1/11/2022, 8:14:28 AM

What a difference a year makes. After beginning 2021 promising to end the pandemic, Joe Biden closed out his disastrous first year in office by waving the white flag of surrender on COVID. Throughout the campaign Biden repeatedly vowed that he would “shut down the virus” like it was turning off a light switch. Now Biden’s message to Americans has essentially been reduced to “this isn’t my job – you all figure it out.”

It’s little wonder Biden has changed his tune so dramatically and so quickly. Despite inheriting multiple vaccines and therapeutics thanks to President Trump’s groundbreaking Operation Warp Speed, COVID is now spiraling out of control. Case numbers have risen to record highs with an average of more than half a million Americans testing positive every single day.

Biden said he wouldn’t shut down the country, but as cases surge under his watch many aspects of American life are once again shutting down. Businesses are closing, thousands of flights are being cancelled, and hospitals are increasingly becoming overwhelmed and short-staffed. Democrat politicians, working closely with far-left teacher union bosses, are even using Biden’s failures as an excuse to close schools and hurt students yet again.

Then there’s Biden’s testing failure, which is exacerbating the problem. Biden repeatedly promised that robust testing would be available for all Americans. Instead, people have been stuck waiting in hours-long lines in the freezing cold to get tested, a stunning failure that has come to define this administration’s ineptitude on COVID. As COVID continues to rage, even many of his fellow Democrats are now begging Biden to finally take this testing shortage seriously. It’s not like these myriad failures are happening because of forces outside of Biden’s control. They’re happening because Biden is asleep at the wheel, hasn't done his job, and doesn't care.

Back in the fall Biden rejected a plan that would have provided Americans with free rapid tests ahead of the holidays. His press secretary went as far to mock the idea of sending test kits to Americans’ homes. Facing public backlash, Biden finally reversed course, but those tests won’t start to arrive until mid-January, well after the holiday season. Biden now concedes he should have ordered more tests “months ago.” That’s too little, too late for the millions of Americans Biden has failed.

Biden might not care about the impact his failures are having on people’s lives, but voters do. Even some Democrats who once supported Biden now realize he’s just another lousy career politician who makes promises he can’t keep. Biden’s inability to contain COVID is in large part why his approval ratings are in free fall, with 56% of voters now disapproving of his handling of the pandemic.

Perhaps Biden’s failures would be more forgivable if he simply played it straight from the beginning. Instead, all Biden has done since entering office is lie to and divide Americans. Biden and his spokespeople continue to falsely claim that they didn’t inherit a vaccine distribution plan from the Trump administration. The fact is that Biden had the advantage of almost a million shots going into Americans’ arms each day by the time he took office – progress Biden has tried to claim for himself. And remember, this is after Biden spent most of the 2020 campaign spreading misinformation by sowing doubts about whether the vaccines would be safe in a disgraceful attempt to try to score political points.

When Biden isn’t peddling lies or hiding from the press, he’s trying to deflect blame by pitting Americans against each another. Biden is still desperately clinging to his divisive forced vaccine mandate. He’s doing so despite the evidence showing his mandate is ineffective at getting people vaccinated, in addition to being blatantly unconstitutional. Fortunately, the Republican National Committee has stepped in and sued to make sure this authoritarian decree is stopped

'I’m insulted that you asked the question': Biden snaps at reporter who asked him why Stacey Abrams isn't going to his voting rights speech and insists it was a scheduling mix-up
Daily Mail UK ^ | 01/11/2022 | Emily Goodin and Geoff Earle
Posted on 1/11/2022, 12:31:50 P

President Biden insisted that 'everything is fine' Tuesday as he flew to Atlanta to deliver a major speech on voting rights snapping at a reporter who questioned him about an activist boycott and a snafu involving former candidate for governor Stacey Abrams. Asked if he was insulted by the absence of Abrams, which Biden described as a scheduling conflict, he responded, 'I’m insulted that you asked the question. I spoke to Stacey this morning. We have a great relationship. We got our scheduling mixed up. I talked to her at length this morning. We're all on the same page, and everything's fine.' Asked what he risked politically, given where things stand in the Senate, Biden responded: 'I risk not saying what I believe. That’s what I risk. This is one of those defining moments. It really is. People are going to be judged where were they before and where were they after the vote. History is going to judge this. It's that consequential. And so the risk is making sure people understand just how important this is.'

Bombshell: Education secretary solicited school board association “domestic terror” letter about parents
lawenforcementtoday.com ^ | 1/11/2022 | jim patrick
Posted on 1/12/2022, 12:31:39 PM by bitt

And the plot thickens.

Newly released emails show that Education Secretary Miguel Cardona was behind the letter sent last September from the National School Boards Association which requested federal intervention against parents protesting at school board meetings, comparing them to “domestic terrorists,” the New York Post reports.

An email shows that on October 6, NSBA Secretary-Treasurer Kristi Swett told NSBA board member Marnie Maraldo that Chip Slaven, then serving as interim CEO of the organization had admitted to fellow officers that “he was writing a letter to provide information to the White House, from a request by Secretary Cardona.”

The email was obtained based on a public records request by Parents Defending Education and shared with the Post. This provides a smoking gun tying the letter directly into the Biden administration.

On September 29, Slaven wrote Biden and suggested parents objecting to mask mandates, as well as opposed to the teaching of critical race theory in schools were engaging in “a form of domestic terrorism”.

He asked the administration to “examine appropriate enforceable actions,” including the use of the PATRIOT Act, legislation enacted in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks ostensibly to protect against international-based terrorist attacks on the homeland.

On that same day, the Post said, Slaven told fellow NSBA officers that he had been “in talks over the last several weeks with White House staff” who “requested additional information on some of the specific threats.”

Meanwhile on October 4, just two days before the exchange between Swett and Maraldo, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the Department of Justice would unleash federal law enforcement assets such as the FBI to take the lead on looking into that he referred to as “a disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers and staff.”

US Consumer Prices Soar 7%; Biggest Spike Since 1982
Wednesday, 12 January 2022

U.S. consumer prices rose solidly in December, with the annual increase in inflation the largest in nearly four decades, which could bolster expectations that the Federal Reserve will start raising interest rates as early as March.

The consumer price index (CPI) increased 0.5% last month after advancing 0.8% in November, the Labor Department said on Wednesday. In the 12 months through December, the CPI surged 7.0%. That was the biggest year-on-year increase since June 1982 and followed a 6.8% rise in November.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the CPI gaining 0.4% and shooting up 7.0% on a year-on-year basis.

The economy is experiencing high inflation as the COVID-19 pandemic snarls supply chains. The high cost of living is weighing on President Joe Biden's approval rating.

Inflation is well above the Fed's 2% target and is also being lifted by budding wage pressures. The government reported last Friday that the unemployment rate dropped to a 22-month low of 3.9% in December, suggesting that the labor market is at or near maximum employment.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell on Tuesday said the U.S. central bank stood ready to do what was necessary to keep high inflation from becoming "entrenched," in testimony during his nomination hearing before the Senate Banking Committee for a second four-year term as head of the bank.

"The laundry list of reasons for the Fed to begin removing monetary policy accommodation is growing," said Ryan Sweet, a senior economist at Moody's Analytics in West Chester, Pennsylvania. "Inflation would need to decelerate rapidly to take some of the pressure off the Fed and this is unlikely to occur."

Money markets currently price about 85% odds of an interest rate hike by March, and a total of at least three quarter-point hikes by year-end.

Economists believe the year-on-year CPI rate probably peaked in December or will likely do so by March. There are signs that supply bottlenecks are starting to ease, with an Institute for Supply Management survey last week showing manufacturers reporting improved supplier deliveries in December.

But soaring COVID-19 cases, driven by the omicron variant, could slow progress towards normalization of supply chains.

Excluding the volatile food and energy components, the CPI increased 0.6% last month after rising 0.5% in November. In the 12 months through December, the so-called core CPI accelerated 5.5%. That was the largest year-on-year gain since February 1991 and followed a 4.9% advance in November.

Core inflation is being driven by rising prices for services such as rentals, as well scarce goods like motor vehicles. The year-on-year core CPI rate is seen peaking in February.

"The first quarter should see inflation peaking, with lower energy prices and a decline in food and auto inflation allowing for a slower increase in prices for the rest of the year," said David Kelly, chief global strategist at JPMorgan Funds in New York.
