Retail credit card interest rate hits record high

The average credit card interest rate for retail stores has hit a record high of 26.72 percent while general purpose credit cards now charge an average of 22.6 percent, according to a study released Monday by industry group Creditcards.com.

The rise in annualized percentage rates (APRs) comes as the Federal Reserve is raising the rates at which banks can borrow money from each other, making financing more expensive throughout the economy.

Twenty-four credit cards on the market now charge 30 percent, including cards from retailers Dick’s Sporting Goods, Burlington and Wayfair. That’s ten times what the Fed was telling banks to charge each other, as of last week.

Comedian and HBO late-night host Bill Maher lamented over the weekend that President Biden’s recent rhetoric and embrace of far-left policies have made it increasingly more difficult to "convince" Democrat centrists that their views still align with the party.

In a Sunday interview on CNN’s "Fareed Zakaria GPS," Maher predicted a sweeping victory for Republicans in Tuesday’s midterm elections, suggesting that Biden’s efforts to appease the far-left progressive wing of the Democrat Party could be what costs them critical congressional seats.

Maher pointed to Biden’s interview last month with a transgender TikTok activist, during which the president said it is "wrong" for states to ban gender-affirming health care. His comments came shortly after the administration released a series of documents that encouraged gender-reassignment surgery and hormone treatments for minors.

President Biden’s approval rating slipped to 39 percent, according to a new poll, as his party seeks to hold on to power in Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

The Reuters-Ipsos survey released late Monday found that the president’s approval rating dropped 1 point compared to polls conducted in mid-October and last week.

Democrats are seeking to avoid a historical trend that typically sees the president’s party lose seats in Congress during the midterm elections, but Republicans appear poised to retake the majority in the House. The race for control of the Senate is highly competitive, and a few key races will likely determine which party wins the majority.

President Biden has said in a pre-midterms radio interview that he feels like he’s 50 and that his looming 80th birthday seems as distant as being able to fly.

“What would 80-year-old Joe tell 50-year-old Joe in this moment?” radio host Willie Moore Jr. asked Biden in the sitdown, which was recorded Sunday and aired Monday.

“That I’m still 50 — that’s the first thing I’d tell him,” Biden answered. “You think I’m kidding. I’m not kidding. That’s number one.

“Number two, I can’t even say that number, 80, you know. But I’m serious, I no more feel that than I can get out from behind this desk and fly.”

Yet the president was in a jovial mood after his party kept a red wave from crashing over the country in House, Senate and gubernatorial races He mocked the media for its predictions going into election night - which had him and his Democrats doing badly

Joe Biden has been accused of acting 'arrogantly' after he insisted that he would not change course, despite coming perilously close to losing control of the House and Senate.

With both races too tight to call, the president insisted on Wednesday that he won't change anything - even though a majority of voters said the country was on the wrong track.

Yet many felt the tone was inappropriate.

'Joe Biden delivering an arrogant and delusional press conference from the White House,' said Nile Gardiner, a foreign policy analyst.

'No humility from a president whose party is on course to lose control of the House of Representatives and possibly the Senate too. This man is completely tone deaf.'

Andy Biggs, a Republican congressman representing Arizona, tweeted: 'Totally disconnected. Arrogance at its finest.'

Author and attorney David Limbaugh said that Biden's 'arrogance' and unwarranted victory lap could help the Republican cause.

'Further rationalizing, the Dems' relatively good, not strong, showing might lead Biden to be even more arrogant and defiant, and maybe that causes him to be even more unpopular,' Limbaugh said.

Republicans may retake the House of Representatives after a lack-luster performance in the 2022 midterm elections so Biden prepared the Gen Zers for another let down.
