The Teutonic Cunt is the worst gimmick in internet history.

All his gimmicks are.  Even with the stupidity spread out over multiple accounts, he comes in first place.

I love that helmet. Perhaps it could find its place on a bodybuilding stage?

Gunther and Marcus should have worn that helmet when posing!

Looks cool, but I can imagine being on the battlefield and swinging and missing and then the sheer weight dragging you 5 yards away with momentum.

you are absolutely correct
But what you see is called a great helm and was used for cavalry charges

See those little cross-shaped holes close to the bottom edge  ?

This allowed the helm to be secured to the wearer's belt or body armour by a toggled guard-chain.

Underneath the great helm, the soldier wore a padded mail coif  + a skull cap

Again, this was used by cavalry men.

The skull cap worn underneath the great helm then slowly evolved into the bascinet

As for the infantry men, battlefield clashes were NOTHING like you see in Hollywood

P.S. : This is a huge topic, Im condensing basic concepts

Great info.

It's a wonder anyone was killed on the battlefield at all with all the armor and chain mail they wore.  Unless you had superhuman strength it is unlikely you could swing a sword hard enough to penetrate deep enough to inflict a mortal blow.  Most likely battle axes, maces and spears were used.

Thanks for sharing.

Again you are 100% percent spot on

The technique of half swording proved to be very useful in combat situations :
A style of sword-fighting where your other hand holds the sword blade, and the sword is used like a short spear ( it allows to set a weak point - a gap - then drive through )

then again, a dagger is a must to finish off an incapacited opponent ; you would hold it like an ice pick and hammer the bitch down, with your palm hitting the pommel, onto a vulnerable part

Missile weapons were the #1 lethal weapons on the battlefield : crossbow bolts & arrows

Historical example : During the battle of Agincourt on 25 October 1415, Englishmen DECIMATED the French cavalry with missile weapons.
Seemingly invincible knights in Plates armour ( not chainmail, not gambison ) had their armor pierced by those projectiles

( the famous English war bow with a draw weight of ~ 160lbs comes to mind )

The English preferred fighting on foot, btw

Pole arms ( bills, pole axes, spears etc ), were always primary infantry weapons. Think of them as rifles and swords as handguns.

When two armies clashed on foot, it looked like a compact melee with both parties pushing against eachother + pole arms strike attempts.

So yes, traditionnaly, the casualties were quite low, you are absolutely right

A medieval sword fight looked more or less like this :

( minus a shield or buckler - mini-shield- , depending on the time period and equipement )

Btw, the shields that you see here are called kite shields or Norman shields

Very practical, thanks to it's long strap which allows the shield to be slung over one shoulder when not in use.

The padded arm straps were also useful, they gripped the shield tightly to the arm and facilitated keeping it in place.

Kite shields are an evolution from circular shields.

Circular shields allowed the warrior to hold it further away from his body thank's to it's single handle

I bet they hated the sight of any water !!
And the fights / battles must've of been slow moving with all
that armour weight they were carrying.

How much did all that body armour weigh let alone a sword & shield .

Yes, water was a problem

Regarding speed, it's hard to tell. On average, armor as we imagine it, be it mostly composed of mail ( 1000- 1300 AD ), or after the slow introduction of plate armors by the late medieval period ( from 1300 AD onward ).

Mail armor weighed ~ 45-55lbs ( 20 - 25 kg ). There is a reason you often see it's users wearing a tight belt. It provides a point of support to better distributes the weight.

A full plate harness ( starting around mid 15th century ) weighed around 25-30kg
( 55-66 lbs )

A typical medieval longsword weighed 1,5kg ( 3,3 pounds )

Medieval military history is a huge big topic ( 1000 years worth of technological progress ). It heavily depends on context : equippements were made for different times, to suit different tactical needs, to face different weapons and styles of warfare.

It's an interesting subject to say the least
And as you rightly point out the armour evolved over time.

Weird thing is he is a fake German wannabe cheering for the side that whipped Germany's ass in the war.
