She was referring to Taiwan but made a gaff.

Taiwan rates more free than the USA.

Newer Democratic Republics will be more free because there hasn’t been as much time for regulatory and bureaucratic rot to set in.

Taiwan has been around for almost 80 years.

When Chiang Kai-shek was in power it was a dictatorship.

It's sad evidence of our poor education system when our politicians can't read the teleprompters.

I have been there several times.

It’s a nice country, completely different than what we have seen on tv and what we have watched in the news.

True.

The entire world is like that.

Apart from the large cities, China is actually pretty amazing and fun to go on vacation.

What really amazed me is that it is really safe to be there.

I’m not saying politically safe. I mean safety for regular people and their everyday life.

I saw so many local businesses there started their day after midnight, especially those food business in big cities. So many people like to go shopping, eating and play sports after midnight. It’s really safe there that you can just even walk alone outside at 3 or 4 am in the morning.

Can you imagine someone walk alone outside at 3 am in the morning here in US? Especially in the cities like Tulsa, Bridgeport, Louisville? Or start your own business after midnight?

Yeah it's totally different over there. Almost zero crime.

A friend of mine lives in Shanghai, and it's common to go out to eat after midnight.

He's been there with his family for 7 years and never had a problem with anyone.

I have friends who have been to both Japan and China and preferred Japan. But China is still a bucket list trip for me. Want to see the Great wall at some point and the Forbidden City. Any other must sees while there?

MM, come on, it is a police state.

Social credit score
no free speech
labor camps
police brutality
a totalitarian state
state terrorism

I am never going to call China a great country.

If you visit China don't they have a political operative follow you around on your visit?

China is going to crash bigtime so no worries.

No one followed us when we were there. We could go anywhere at anytime as we wanted it, even 3 or 4 am in the morning like what I said.

Maybe because we are nobody and have no value to them, they have nothing to spy on us.

From my experience over there, I had no problems with nobody there.

I’ve heard the same from people I know who have been there. It’s fine if you’re a tourist but if you try to get involved in society is when the government gets up your ass.

There are pros/cons everywhere.

During Covid, my friend and his family were forced to leave their apartment due to quarantine regulations. It was either that or be forced to stay inside for an unknown amount of time.

They lived in Thailand for 3 months. Since they could afford to leave.

There are some very insane rules in China, but on the surface it's a cool place to visit, however i would never live there.

When i went there on vacation 10 years ago, it was very relaxed and low key. No drama anywhere, but you do not want to get involved with the authorities, they basically make up the laws on a daily basis, but Americans are protected for the most part.
