Title: Is the NOC Cancelled?
Post by: Special Ed on September 07, 2006, 11:32:48 PM
Haven't heard a word about the show. I work 3 blocks from the theater and haven't seen a single ad, sign, or flyer anywhere.  Priest, Galanti, Taylor, Schoenborn all dropped out for medical or other reasons. Other than the Sami guy who posts here, I don't even know a single guy who is competing and I'm a hardcore fan. News, anyone???

With Lee not competing, it is a guest posing for Sami anyways.

Easy money.

Total prize money was said to be $50 000 + a ring worth $5 000. Maybe Sami can get $30 000 of those. Plus the ring.

I'd get out more if I was you.  Wayne has more than 20 gyms with posters and selling tickets in the New York area.  In fact a couple NPC promoters are helping him.  He has full page ads in something called the Village Voice and some other magazine that you probably read and look at.  Was wondering you must not be too hardcore.  Have you ever been to the Olympia or any IFBB show in the past 20 years.  There is a helluva mailing list flyers are being mailed to every month for thepast 6 months.  Anyone who has been to a pro show and was on the mailing list got these.  As a hardcore fan you would think you were on this list.  opps, maybe you are you are a hardcore reader of BB magazines not actual shows

The show is just fine.  Nice try though.

Yes it is canceled.

THAT'S WHY YOU'RE A DICK HEAD!
The show is NOT canceled.  Lee is competing, and the tickets are nearly sold out.  At least that is what Wayne told me yesterday.  Where do you get your info? IFBB hotheads? If all you haters think the show is going to fail you don't need t help along by posting lies.  Dick Head.

Wow, that guy doesn't know how to hit that pose properly but DAMN he's got some fantastic muscle and a great physique. It really is amazing all the guys we've never heard of in the U.S. that are IFBB-pro quality. Just judging by the pics you posted (and nothing else so this is only a simple estimate) this guy beats Kamali in the same poses. And Kamali's Mr. O qualified.

Not suprising though considering what type of people compete in these things.

I was beginning to wonder what happened to the 'buzz' surrounding this show.  And even though we know Lee, Jack, and a few others will still be onstage Saturday, I haven't heard anyone mention that he's doing the pro qualifier on the Friday night before the big show.

How can a throwaway event like the Montreal Pro (which doesn't even qualify for "3rd-tier" status) be getting more airtime than the NOC??

There are quite a few impressive guys from Europe coming to compete.
I received postcards every month for the last 5 or 6 months.  Unfortunately, I cannot make the trip to NY.
If the show is run well, the judging fair, and there are some good competitors...then its a very good start!  The PDI is not looking to upstage the IFBB, especially in its infancy.  Its looking to provide another good organization with slightly different ideals for BBers to compete!

It's true...I do need to get out more. But I have been to the Night of Champions, the Arnold and the Olympia several times. I work out at New York Sports Clubs (15 NYC locations), which doesn't have any flyers. I walk past the Town Hall theater once a week. No signs or flyers. I don't read the Village Voice anymore. It's pretty much a gay newspaper with 1 or 2 good stories. The Town Hall box office reported that less than 50 tickets have been sold. Maybe they're expecting huge walk-up numbers. Anyone can verify the lack of ticket sales by going to Ticketmaster and seeing how close to the stage the available tickets are under "Best Available". Check for yourself. Claims of "nearly sold out" are a huge crock o' shit.

I must say that I am impressed with some of the physiques that have been posted in this thread. If Lee and TJ show up, it should be a competitive show. Quite frankly, I think that the lack of "names" is the reason for the slow ticket sales. Wayne really should have made a greater effort to sign current IFBB pros instead of adopting a "I'll let them come to me" approach. Signing a couple of New York-based IFBB disenchanted out-of-the-loop pros like Caprise Murray, Jason Arntz, and Rodney St. Cloud would have brought the numbers substantially up.

I hope the PDI is successful. Anyone wanna meet up at the theater?

No way not according to Kevin, Issac, Chic or Sean.  PDI pros are shitty and no way could be an IFBB pro.  That's so funny cause the majority of the guys competitng could easily win an IFBB show in the states.  Frey could easily place in top five in any IFBB show.
Title: Re: Is the NOC Cancelled?

The problem is that European competitors don't get a fair shake from American IFBB judges & they know it.  I can't tell you how many times I've seen it happen.  They may think that the PDI will give them a better chance to place high.  They all know that having a rep in the US will benefit them.  I was astounded when I saw some recent NABBA European athletes at their pro shows (on DVDs).  Some of these guys are as big as (or bigger than) American pros, & they pose a hell of a lot better than most American pros do as well.

Who do you consider to be better than Frey as you claim he could only place in the top 5 of an IFBB show whereas the majority could win.

I never called the PDI "pros" shitty. Sami could hold his own on the IFBB stage. Frey is a big dude as well. Let's see who actually gets on stage first before claiming the majority of them could "easily" win an IFBB show.

Be sure to take a photo of the crowd, as you proclaimed it was going to be sold out for months now.

Let's see who actually gets on stage first...

VERY GOOD POINT.

As of right now, we've seen only promise, not delivery.

Based solely on the limited photos we've seen of some of the anticipated competitors, it's reasonable to say that some of these guys could 'hold their own' on an IFBB stage.  In order words, what I'm saying is that they will LOOK like world-class bodybuilders.

But we're still a week away from seeing this dream come to fruition.  I hope that MD and ESPN.com will provide solid photo coverage on their websites soon after the event.

But I heard that:

It's the truth...like the 100 people that were in attendance...and the 61 that attended last night.

Then I heard that the place was nearly packed from George at femuscle.org, who took about 4000 pics over the 2 days.  There are 1500 seats there.
