In order to prosecute a person, sucessfully, first of all police need to be motivated to act (and typically that occurs when there is a "victim"). Then on top of that they need to collect evidence and prepare a strong case. They then need to persuade a prosecutor that they have a case worth bringing. And then, they need to then prove their case, in Court, beyond a resonable doubt (ie if the accused can raise any doubt about the case againt him, he gets off).

A typical offence to a pro who has in the past stated he used drugs, would quite simply be "you can't prove it".

So in any case, lets assume, after all of the above, a pro does indeed get convicted of a use or posession offence. He will likely get a very small fine.

So, you can see, its really a pretty pointless exercise, especially for a "crime" that does not actually hurt anyone.

Simple answer. Pro BB has very little media coverage. Most of the guys say stuff to small groups or on web forums, etc.

Albert - many competitors in other sports do talk very much about drug use. I have read and heard many interesting comments about drug use from top competitors in weightlifting, powerlifting, track and field, gymnastics, cycling, rugby, football, tennis, boxing. In fact, drug use is such an important part of athletic performance that I can barely think of a sport where competitors do NOT speak about drug use.

Now, if you are wondering why in most other sports the competitors (whilst still competing) do not speak about their own personal use, the reason should be quite obvious - its because they risk being disqualified, and further because the relevant public that the sport derives income and sponsorship from tends to hold an "anti-drug" view, believing drug use is inherently wrong or unfair.

The reason why in bodybuilding some competitors (whilst still competing) speak about their own personal use, the reason should be quite obvious - its because they DO NOT face a great risk of being disqualified. Further "a significant part of the relevant public" that the sport of bodybuilding derives income and sponsorship from tends to hold an "pro-drug" view, believing drug use is an acceptable and necessary part of bodybuilding, and so for this reason competitors in the sport of bodybuilding do not risk harming (and in some ways might even enhance) their reputations among the relevant target audience.
