Title: Has Dexter become the new Chris Cormier?
Post by: Parker on March 13, 2010, 11:11:17 AM
Has he? He wins the Mr. O in 2008, loses it in 2009, but not just that, he comes in third to a less stellar Branch. He places 4th at this yr's Arnold, and now second at the Aussy Pro to Kai.

We all remember Chris Cormier, 5 time Ironman winner, Aussy Pro winner. And 6 time Arnold Classic 2nd place winner...6  times! Losing to a syntholed Flex in 2000, Ronnie Coleman in 2001, and the most crazy twice to Jay Cutler...Chris could be called the heartbreak kid. Arguably one of the most aesthetic bodybuilders of all time, Chris eventually faded away, even when he still had gas left in the tank, his placings shook him.

Now, look at what is happening to Dex, a similar situation, similar that he is one of the most aesthetic bbers of his time, yet he is being denied. Or is he being forced to work harder or forced out?

I think both are correct. Cormier looked better, but so did most of the 90's line up. Some have said that Cormier's issue with Ahmo Hight back in 96 was the reason why he didn't win the Arnold, basically he was blackballed or blacklisted. I don't know if he was found guilty, but I think it came out that he found her doing coke in front of his child...

How old was Cormier when he started to go downhill? Besides Ronnie, it seems like once you hit 40 or so you begin to slip. Just a hypothesis.

Yes, she was, and apparently a coke whore as well...

Cormier was born in 1967, he placed 13 at the 2005 Mr O, then bounced back and won the San Fran Pro in 2006, then had that injury. This would make him approx. 42-43 yrs old.

He will be 43 this summer.  Toney Freeman is a year older.  Vince Taylor, more than 10.

I think because Vince started late in the game (at 28) that has helped him. Toney Freeman was in the NPC rank almost the whole late 90s to early 2000s. Chris got his Pro card in 93, and partied like it was 1999, every year. I think the drugs and the 6x Arnold 2nd places did his morale and drive in.

As far as placings go Dexter is better, as far as overall better physique Cormier is better. One of the best next to Ray, Flex, Levrone, etc.. in the 90's and early 2000's era. He had the structure to add tremendous size yet maintained a flowing, asthetic physique.

Dexter won the O and then did nothing, made no effort to promote himself or the sport, so the powers that be probably wanted to get him out of the way as he's a marketing nightmare. Jay isnt Mr charisma either, at least he makes some effort.

cormier had a sick physique.  he should have a couple arnold titles and an olympia or two.

Dorian won six Mr Olympia titles went back to England after each one... your argument is null

To the thread starter... Dexter has won the O and the AC... of which Cormier has been attributed to having the potential to do... but never pulling it off... your argument is null

Unfortunately, Cormier lost to a no back having Cutler...2x. I remember how Johnny Fitness said that Jay had better thickness than Cormier, yet Cormier had the better physique and better back.

i saw someone post pics of those contests here a while back.  cormier MURDERED cutler in every single shot, yet cutler still won.  bb politics at its finest.

Cormier had a great structure and was swindled out of titles he should have won, Dexter has an awful structure and won titles he shouldn't have won.

Cormier won the Ironman 5x, a feat most haven't accomplished. If pics were posted of the Jay and Cormier Arnold duel, you'd see that Cormier won fair and square, but somehow, he got second...

Dex, is started to be relegated to second, and forth place. And some people who are above him, need to be placed below, like Branch. The argument still stands.

you seem to know a lot about marketing, what would you have recommended that Dex do to promote the "sport" and himself and winning the O?

yes, yes, turning down an appearance on the tonight show was a mistake on his part. Also why did refuse that CNN indept report ?  ::)

No... Dorian's "Mystique" was heavily built up in the Weider mags, and with his relatively different approach on training, and new standards of size, and conditioning, he was quite marketable. He didn't have a lot of charisma, but he did have a great drive, and existential take on Bodybuilding, that translates well into writing articles about him.

Dexter is completely unmarketable. Jay is not much better, but he is at least able to present himself halfway intelligently to the public. Shawn Ray was probably the best bet in taking it to a slightly wider audience, but no such luck.

Arnold won't be inviting Dexter again next year

he has to maintain his show's prestige
