Yeah, Tyson came into the club in which Cormier and his Gold's posse worked (Flex, etc.), and slapped Chris upside the back of his head. When Cormier turned around, like, What the ... , he saw Iron Mike and paused, and then almost immediately Mike flashed a great big grin and said something to the effect of, "C'mon! You're a big boy. You can take it." Apparently the tone was good-natured.
I spoke with Chris about this not long after it happened.
He told me he was happy Tyson was playing around because he wouldn't have wanted to get into it with Mike.
Let's not forget Cormier had already broken his hand working that club, as well, getting into it with goofy-bastard customers.

Of course. But it's also conceivable that it might have turned quickly into a less, how shall I say, sophisticated fray, and Cormier's size and strength would have cast him as a legit threat. If, say, the two tangled and fell into a bar or railing, etc., Chris' physical attributes could have made Mike's superior athletic attributes much less definitive.

I think Tyson would just go ballistic, while Cormier would go limp. No one really knows the outcome of such a fight, but the odds are in favor of a real athlete. Cormier was and still is, no athlete.

I think that Tyson only hit Cormier because Cormier was huge.
Mike just wanted to let the biggest guy in the club (Cormier) know that a very dangerous, very hostile, very aggressive psycho (Tyson) was in the club that night. And Tyson wanted Cormier to know that he did not have any respect for him ...and no qualms with embarrassing him (hence the hard smack to the neck).

I just read old interview about this, from the czech bb mag.
Here is the story:
It was in 1992, when he was world champion. It was in the club where I was working as a bouncer, he came to me from the back and slapped my head from the back, I turned around to confront the attacker because this is how you deal with such situations when you do this job. It was not only Tyson standing agaist me but also his 20 friends. So it wasnt really a good situation. Flex and Rico were with me so they saw what what happend, but at the end nothing happend. Mike admitted that he should not have done it and apologize.

If you're gonna fight a boxer, don't box. His only chance would be to try and lunge at his waist and take him to the ground. Didn't Tyson get in a scuffle outside a bar once and ended up with a bloody lip? I seem to remember something about that. real fights are not as pretty and artistic as in the ring. Doesn't anyone remember Ali getting his ass handed to him by a wrestler in Japan? But yeah, it's not a good Idea to fight Tyson. Be a hell of a lawsuit though.

Yep, Tyson was one of those types who would have probably been even more dangerous in a street fight then a boxing ring. I wouldn't put it past him doing anything to win a fight.

As bad as Tyson was, he's sure lucky he had his posse of 20 homies with him, or else Cromier would have certainly humbled him.
Chris was one of the top bodybuilders in the world, with arms easily over 21 inches on a ripped 260 pound physique onstage, and a waist-to-shoulder ratio Tyson could only dream about.
Plus the hours of cardio Chris did every day on the treadmill to stay ripped year round would have certainly helped outpace Mike had the fight gone on for very long.
And the fact that Chris was capable of inclining 500 pounds for reps and had a wrestling background would have only sealed Iron Mike's fate...
I just wish Flex and Rico would have stepped up as well. Flex's martial arts training and ninja fighting skills would have enabled the 3 muscled gods to take out all 20 of Mike's homies IMO.
But in the end, I guess they were smart to remember the 3 simple rules carved into every bouncer's psyche by the Best Damned Cooler in the business...

Haha thanks iron brother, but there was one that was crazier than that but with all the same guys. It goes back and forth between them and then bossman, Virgil, and slaughter. It's a classic.
