A wristwatch is the only jewelry most US men wear...therefore the fixation.

When I lived in NYC you could get high quality knock off of every high end Swiss mechanical watch like every brand every model for about 40-80 bucks in China Town

Even if I were rich, I seriously doubt I'd ever pay the crazy money that some of these things cost. I do really appreciate the aesthetics of them, but I can never be bothered to learn about the movements, brand history, and all that crap. I have a Seiko and a Tag Heuer, and eventually I'd like to get a Tudor Black Bay 58. One of my friends has a stunning Omega Seamaster, but it's too conspicuously tied to James Bond now. I'd feel silly wearing one.

I paid 600 bucks for my watch and it has the computing capabilities that exceed the Apollo space program.

Oof ... the white dial Seamaster, though. I do love it. I want it.

Yeah, I have the same problem with the one I'm wearing now. I noticed in photographs recently it's just too big for my wrist. Looking to get something more subtle than my dive watches after Christmas.

My mind has now changed and I'm strongly considering getting a black Seamaster on a rubber strap. They just look fantastic. But I have very gay, small wrists and it might look ridiculous.

You don't buy a watch with the idea of making a buck...You buy it because you like it...

For me I needed quartz accuracy, not the tic tic tic.

My good friend does both. He has a passion for watches but he also buys pieces to invest in occasionally. He's very wealthy these days, so I guess he can afford to play around and take small risks. I blame him for making me become interested in them. When I tried on his Submariner, it suddenly all made sense. His latest purchase, a rare Rolex, will apparently soon sell for around $15,000 more than what he paid for it.

If I didn't have to part with the cash, this would be amazing to wear:

You should be fine.

Watches with a bezel have a smaller hour marker circle ( an imaginary circle measured from one tip of an hour marker on the dial to the tip of the opposite hour marker. )

A 40mm watch with a bezel will always look smaller than a 40mm watch with no bezel.

Here's an example : Orient Ray 2 ( case size : 41.5mm ) vs. Seiko SRPB41 ( 40,5mm )

If you are really self-conscious about your wrist size, you can always opt for an Omega Seamaster Professional 300m Mid Size ( 36,2mm ) instead of the more traditional 42mm model ( swapping the metal band for an Omega black rubber strap is very easy.)

Edit : the reviewer's wrists in the video are 6.29" ( 16 cm ) in circumference

Good stuff, Mops. Thanks. Yeah, it shouldn't be too bad. My wrists must be about the same as the reviewer's. My Seiko looks absolutely fine on them and that's a 42mm, I think. The rubber would slim it down quite a bit, too.

I also really like the look of this little thing and think it would be a pretty unique option to go with (if a good one is even available now). I like the little nod to various professions it gives, and I've never seen anyone with one. Weird or cool?

That's a very, very cool vintage timepiece, Phantom.
Omega chronostop Driver ( 35mm ) on a mesh bracelet. A watch "designed" to be worn upside down whilst driving.

I believe Omega produced them in the mid 60s, yes ?

Glad you think so too. Yeah, 1966, I think I read. The mesh bracelet works perfectly with it; perfect size watch for wearing under shirt cuffs too. I think I might have to add it to my wishlist.

I own 2 watches of any value. a 1990's Rolex Submariner date as my daily, and a Citizen solar powered for travel abroad. A few others that are likely under $40 each to match particular occasions. My questions are, when did you start collecting watches, what do you look for? What would be the watch you would love to have if price was no problem?
