Title: Would you rather be born MALE ??
Post by: Board_SHERIF on January 07, 2008, 08:17:22 AM
Females put up with a lot of crap and blatant discrimination - I won't even list as its endless...

Would you rather be an Aggressive,Vain,Sex on the Brain, Emotionally Detached Male ? It would be an easier life  ;)

Not to mention giving birth which is said to be the most painful thing a human body can endure. Also menopause, time of the month, etc. I am glad i'm a male.

Hmmm... you're beginning to make a tempting case, ...but when it comes down to it, what you're really asking is if we would be willing to forego agony & insanity 25% of the time, ...in exchange for agony & instantly 100% of the time. Doesn't seem like much of a contest there, ...especially since not all women have difficult ...um, ...relatives.  :)

In my previous profession, I was often paid more than the men doing the same job.

No I wouldn't. All kidding aside, I wouldn't want to be born male, and I don't agree with your 99.9% figure.

In the whole world, women are discriminated against, to some degree.

There are even countries where women cannot even vote (eg Saudi Arabia).

Women are constantly facing a tougher life.

Wages are lower, medical, legal and social systems are made for men, et al.

So why would you want to be born a woman?

Well men are the ones making it that way.  So why the hell would I want to be one of them?  I like to be part of the solution, not the problem.   :D

Besides, women got one up on men...they can use sex to their advantage in a lot of instances.

Just looking at the alternative.  ;)

But seriously tho, Life is full of obstacles. Like poker, one adapts and plays the cards they've been dealt.
It just so happens we women are good at playing the cards we've been dealt.

I wasn't born in Saudi Arabia and I don't live there.

Rephrase the question to "Would you rather be born MALE if you were born in Saudi Arabia?
...and you might get a different response.

precisely (and this is a joke, okay?

>>> All women have to do is say yes or no.  Yes nicely, or No politely.

Then we deal with the consequences.

I'd sooner have emotions than not.  Crying (and discarding an egg once a month) is good for you.

There are so many reasons why being a woman must surely be the choice you'd make if you were given one.

Being a man would be awful.  You've got responsibilities, you have to be macho.  You need to learn how to fix a car and put shelves up.

Me, I can go cry.  (Obviously I learned how to put shelves up when I was 16.

You have to go get a job, a good one even, and I can stay home and do the flowers.  And put shelves up.  Or hang on a sec, I can have an amazing career.  Or children or both. blahblah

You blokes have to get a hard on and then figure out what to do with it.

All I have to do is lie there and you're happy.

Very good point. Not to mention that in a lot of countries, women are considered a liablilty. In the middle east they get treated like shit. Verbal and physical abuse is a normal everyday life for a woman over there. Terrible.

Hello?

I live in England and you live in America.

Unfortunately we are not talking about the same thing.  I doubt you have an inkling about what it might be to be a muslim woman living in a Muslim country.  Let alone a foreign woman escaping to live in a foreign country.

Obviously the best option would be to be a white woman in the Western world (nowadays...

There was a thing on the news this morning which made me laugh out loud about how Western men feel lost and hard done by.

Old news, if you ask me, because it's about time !

I honestly do not see this as some kind of advantage.

I actually view it as women constantly being objectified, and instead of competing with competence, they have to resort to other variables, sexually attractive being one of them.

Suggested reading: A vindication of the rights of Woman, by Mary Wollstonecraft, perhaps the greatest feminist book of all time.

I could think of only one reason to be a woman, but it is a very good one: Constantly laying in the bed and playing with the tits and the ass. 8)

There's a difference between being objectified and making the most of what you've been given, especially in a world where men try to put women at a disadvantage.  It's just another tool in a woman's toolchest.  It's a fact of human nature that men can go weak over a little poontang.   ;D

periods, pregnancy, child birth, menopause, living life ruled by your emotions, having to be the "catcher" instead of the "pitcher", being considered the lesser species in most of the world, having to sit & use use TP when you pee, high heeled shoes, make up, hair maintenance, peaking at 23 in terms of physical beauty...holy shiat it sucks to be female.  :-\ :-\

periods, pregnancy, child birth, menopause, having to sit & use use TP when you pee,

I agree w/Yem that the above aren't enviable (although some women would disagree)

living life ruled by your emotions,  peaking at 23 in terms of physical beauty

I don't agree the above are statements are true for all women

high heeled shoes,

I love high heeled shoes :)

make up, hair maintenance,

We aren't forced to wear make-up or spend a lot of time on our hair, these things are seen as enjoyable by some of us. :)

having to be the "catcher" instead of the "pitcher",

I've never thought about the "pitcher" being the enviable "position," but I disagree.  The "catcher" doesn't have to worry about possible performance issues, or size etc.

Other male issues:

Walking around w/those things can't be comfortable, if you watch a baseball game, it's apparent they constantly itch or are in the wrong position etc.

High school gym class "embarrassments"

Our society unfortunately in general thinks the man should be the bread-winner and when he's not, his ego may suffer

Some Mr. Moms unfortunately are made to feel badly

Men are usually more stinky, hairy and shun kleenex.  But I loves 'em ;D

BTW, don't women have the same issues of inferiority and discomfort with breast, as men do with units?

No, waiting in line to urinate is not enjoyable!  I'm not in crowded bars much these days but when I was if the men's room was unoccupied, we'd just skip the line, go in the men's room and have someone watch the door.   :)

Unless you've been both, one wouldn't REALLY know which is better.  Both have their advantages and disadvantages.  Not ALL men make more money than woman (the financial world is changing...in the past a woman could never touch a man's salary, now there are women who control major shares in companies).  Not ALL men are physically stronger either....there are a ton of whimps in the world...many grace the pages of getbig.  ;)  Not ALL men get better with age, in fact most men's health fail many years earlier than a woman's.  And if you are talking looks....welcome to the age of Plastic Surgery...so that's thrown out the window.

The world is changing.  Not that I want Hilary Clinton to be president...but look at what's happening there.  There is a possibility of a women being president at some point.  There are women that do run countries or hold a lot of political power.

I'm not saying being one or the other is better, all I'm saying is that I don't mind being female and have never had the wishes to have been born a male.

Everytime a girl goes to the bathroom....it isn't always to pee.  lol   Sometimes it's a social meeting (2 girls going to talk about the guys they're with) or to fix make up, hair, clothing, etc.

I will say this....it doesn't hurt holding (pee) for us as much as it does for men.   ;)  Although you guys can whip it out a pee in the bushes or whatever (which sometimes we can do) when you don't have that convience, I am told it hurts a lot to hold.

Oh brother ::)  We're speaking in generalities.  By the way, I don't have to have lived life as a dog or a cockroach to know I'm better off having been born a human.
Lol. Nice comparison.

Man - woman
Human - cockroach

Obviously, being born a woman in a lot of parts of the world would majorly suck because of the inferior treatment they get. But i'd rather be born a wealthy goodlooking woman than a short fat man.
I like being a guy and i would say i'd prefer it, but it's kinda hard for anybody to stay objective on this so i'm not gonna vote here.

?
I don't think the male is that much different from the female bladder so i doubt it's that much different. It doesn't hurt but it's not comfortable.

Ps: Stella, i don't know why they are scraching constantly during baseball. But (at least for me) it never itches. Maybe they're wearing a cup or something that's too tight/irritating?

LMAO

Honestly, I don't think women are any happier or less happy then men. It's just a different life.

I remember, growing up, my mother and older sister would always get on my case for being "anti-social" because I would never sit around and "chat" with them. It got to a point where I thought they might actually be right. So, one day, I took them up on their offer. After ten minutes of listening to their silly gossip, I couldn't take any more and I took off. Turned out I was right all along.

I'm going to guess it's probably sweaty balls.

And Mindspin: I never said it was Michael who said it hurt.  And I also didn't say it was the "unit" that hurt.  I've been told by different males of different ages that it hurts to hold (not all the time, but when you have reached that "full capacity" and can't get to the bathroom) and it hurts to stop mid-stream.  Personally I don't know....because I'm not a male.

And actually when "chugging" beers...don't most guys have to leave to "take a piss" "drain the main vein" "let the snake loose" "go rain on the drain"?  I didn't make those up, guys like announcing when they have to go to the bathroom, especially when drinking.  Females don't announce it quite like that.  ::)

As a feminist, I acknowledge the patriarchal structure of our society.

Thus, I believe life is easier for men.

IMO, it's an undeniable fact.

However, I suppose being a woman has it charms. And I definitely understand women who don't want to be men, but that is IMO not based on objective reasoning, but rather subjective.

Ie, if you weigh pros and cons of being a man and a woman, being a man far outweighs being a woman.

But lets put emotions aside for a moment.

Just look at several developing nations where female infants are put away for adoption.

Or in several countries where families are only trying to conceive boys.

I don't think it's a good thing. As a feminist, I definitely oppose social constructions that work against women.

But I will recognize the difficulties that face women. Only a fool wouldn't.

It all depends on where in the world you are, ...and all the women posting on this board live in the WEST.

Hedge said life was easier for men, ...but I would wholeheartedly disagree.
Life, ...as we know it in the west is waaaay easier for a woman. (single & without kids)

Let me ask you guys this, ...when was the last time you were able to bat your eyelashes and get away with murder? When was the last time a bouncer at a club let you jump the q, or the last time some fellow consumer offered to pump your gas, check your oil, or wash your windshield at the self serve?  When have you had guys pull over and offer to change your tire?  Hmmmm... I'm waiting. When was the last time you mouthed your frustration and irritation to a cop without worrying he was gonna slap cuffs on your and taser your ass silly? When was the last time you were able to cry in public in front of your friends without worrying that you will be mercilessly teased about it until you die? When was the last time you really needed a hug from your best friend, ...and was able to get it, without any fear that anyone who may be looking on, might think that either one of you were gay? When was the last time you could cross a busy street, without having to wait for the light? We can approach anybody, anywhere, anytime, and be warmly received, whereas you are looked at sideways and usually only a hairs breadth away from being maced.

The world's power structure may be set up where men are the heads of things,

Is it just me, or do most of these things seem quite petty?
Last thing is not true either. It's all about how you present yourself. If you are nicely dressed, smiling, and friendly you'll get a long way. I agree that if you are a goodlooking women you'll get things done easier. (Not necessarily a good thing, i think you learn a lot too by fixing your own problems.)

Outdated. A lot of women are in "direct" power nowadays.
Doesn't make any sense. If women controlled men like that they wouldn't have had to fight so hard for equal rights.

Would you rather be an Aggressive,Vain,Sex on the Brain, Emotionally Detached Male ? It would be an easier life  ;)

yes

It would make life easier in many ways.

I do get paid less doing my job than the men in this company that do more meaningless duties, my job is at times more important , imperative ,and demanding.
I do believe that if a man had my job he'd be paid more.

I think that's just the way it is , not much will change in my lifetime .

Emotions do run more rampant in females ,I've just always attributed that to the presence of estrogen.

great example of the difference between men and women
Hillary Clinton , her emotional display certainly helped her with the New Hampshire votes.
I do think she'll be crying more now.

What a sad post. :'(

It seems like you have given up already.

All of the situations mentioned above are actually when women are viewed as second citizens of sorts, and has to play by another rulebook, use their looks.

Whereas men will use their competence.

Women who tries to break the norm, like Janet Reno, are ridiculed for not being feminine, and aren't judged by their competence.

Even women attacks these women.

And only when they goes back to acting traditionally women-like, as Hillary Clinton did, showing emotions, they can be accepted.

Truly tragic.

Hillary Clinton gets judged, not by her political platform, but rather by how feminine, or un-feminine she is. How un-attractive she's become. How much of a lesbian she looks like. And bullshit like that.

You fail to recognize all of this. You evidently think it's all fine and dandy.

Well, I guess you and I are of different opinions then.

Women don't control ALL men, ...a woman only controls HER man. ;)
I know this is a popular thought amongst women. But i seriously doubt the truth behind that.

After all, women spend on average WAY more time doing the household. Even if both partners have similar jobs. I think it's true that when a man doesn't really care about something he lets his wife make the decisions. But for important issues most decisions are made with agreement of both partners in most households, as it should.

Actually hedge, I wasn't referring to looks at all. Faust mentioned it briefly, and I simply chose not to comment on it.

Competence is about gettting the job done, ...whether it be through delegation or otherwise.

I don't consider Janet Reno as having done anything outside of "the norm". As for Janet Reno, ...ya, ...I'm sure it was her feminity and not her competence that made Clinton appoint her as Attorney General.  ::)

I've never attacked Janet Reno for her feminity or any perceived lack thereof. It is usually men who subscribe to that tactic. Men and very insecure women.

Quote
And only when they goes back to acting traditionally women-like, as Hillary Clinton did, showing emotions, they can be accepted.

I think everyone is missing the point. Hilary's show of emotion, was not about "I'm human I cry".
What she did was relate to her target audience. She put her bid for presidency in the same light as these women's lives. This may seem like a sexist statement, ...but married women with children, ...raising a family etc., understood everything she said and what she didn't say. Maybe you have to be a woman to understand what she did, ...but she spoke Japanese to a population of Greeks, ...and they heard Greek coming out of her mouth.

no hedge, ...it was BRILLIANT!

You think I think it's fine and dandy that hilary is judged by irrelevant criteria by people who don't have their heads screwed on straight? With  the exception of menstrual cycles, all of the above can be applied to men.

The bottom line is, ...there are pros & cons to being of either gender in matriarchal or patriarchal societies.
But the question was: "Would you rather be born a MALE". The women here has given you a resounding and near unanymous answer. NO we would not! I find it rather funny that the men here seem hell bent on changing our minds.

Do you find it threatening that woman would not rather be a man? I find that interestiing in some wierd perverse way, but interesting nonetheless. Why would a man, ...any man, find it necessary to come to a "woman's board", ask such a question, ...and proceed to tell women that "No you are wrong, ...you should prefer to have been born male" Where does such audacity come from? The guys that down female bodybuilders are either too ugly and poor to get one, or are too stupid to converse with us and prove their manhood another way. There's several men on this site who have been with us and will never go back...We are the ALPHA females!

I've never been with a female bodybuilder, but I've been for some time with a competitive Dutch swimmer. Broad shoulders, developed arms and legs, tiny waistline. Yummy  :D. She loved to be on top, so I guess she was quite the alpha-female.

...tightness and tone...

Tightness!   ;D

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!! Oh Hell No!!! We women have it soooo easy...we rule the world behind the scenes. Men are so easily dominated by us. All we have to do is "cut them off" and they will do anything to get back "in our good graces"...I personallly run a 320lb(on stage) bodybuilder just from this... He can't deny me anything....giggle  Ladies, use the force...make it work for you..!!!giggle

But to get your way is not on merit !  it is using sex to try and equal things out (be treated at the same level as a man).

somewhat true. u see this all the time - women using their sexuality/gender to get special treatment from men, but alot of the times it's just the guy being a schmoe. if u sit down at any restaurant and watch a female bartender go over and serve drinks or give food to male and female customers, the males will usually always give a much more extroverted reply, as if to try and charm the female, lol. its classic schmoeness, but its as consistent as gravity. so, that being said, women dont need to work much on charming a guy to get places, unless theyre ugly. thats a big plus about being a woman.

i dont think its that they want to be treated the same as men, as most women believe they're better than men, it's just that through time, theyve come to realise that men are horny beasts and want to fuck anything that walks = i.e. women, so they know that if they let the man think he has a chance of SOMETHING, the man will be extra nice and forthcoming. its basic psychology and women are quite good at it.

Who would want to be something they are not?  :) How can you ask women who are hotwired to be some certain way of being, if they would wish to be something else? Doesn't work.

Men have to defend the house and go to war, so right there, personally it's a big no. Cause I'd be lousy at it, although I can shoot, just wouldn't want to have to kill someone if it came down to it.

Plus, where's Debussey with its/his/her mega facts concerning the pleasure capacity of females versus males.  :D That alone would be the ultimate answer.

Personally, I believe that women should get equal rights and responsibilities.
