I agree with Elon Musk.

Musk responds to McConnell freezing at press conference, says 'constitutional amendment' is needed
Several Twitter users responded to Elon Musk's tweet suggesting there should be age limits for members of Congress
By Lawrence Richard FOXBusiness
Published July 27, 2023

Elon Musk said the incident Wednesday when Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., appeared to freeze up during a news conference with other Republican leaders should warrant a "need" for a constitutional amendment.

Musk, who owns Twitter and other companies, tweeted early Thursday morning, "We need a constitutional amendment. This is insane."

The comment came in response to another user who provided a video of the incident showing McConnell addressing a group of reporters before abruptly stopping, staring blankly into the group, and standing idle for a brief moment. A Republican colleague broke McConnell’s apparent trance and helped escort him away from the podium.

Musk’s tweet did not provide specifics on what the potential amendment would say or do. Several people who responded suggested there should be age limits for members of Congress.

The bizarre moment, which made mainstream media headlines and swiftly became the subject of social media discussions, followed the Republican leaders’ weekly party luncheon Wednesday afternoon.

"Good afternoon, everyone," McConnell opened his remarks. "We're on a path to finishing the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) this week, there's been good bipartisan cooperation and a string of…"

The Senate Republican leader then trailed off and stood for nearly a minute.

Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., stepped up to the podium asking, "You OK, Mitch?"

"Is there anything else you want to say or should we just go back to your office?" the Republican added.

McConnell was then escorted away but returned moments later to finish the press conference and to answer reporters’ questions.

"I'm fine," McConnell said when he returned.

Republican Whip Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., and others addressed the press in his absence. Thune, 62, is the second-highest-ranking Republican in the chamber.

An aide from McConnell’s office told Fox News that the senator "felt lightheaded and stepped away for a moment. He came back to handle Q and A, which as everyone observed was sharp."

McConnell, 81, suffered a concussion earlier this year when he fell in a Washington hotel. He also fractured a rib during the same incident.

Several people who commented on Musk’s tweet discussed the age and health of lawmakers and others who lead the country.

President Biden, who turns 81 later this year, has exhibited similar speaking issues. Biden is the oldest president in U.S. history and is running for re-election in 2024, so he could break his own record.

His age and health have also prompted criticism.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who turned 83 this year, stepped away from her party’s leadership when Republicans won the House majority earlier this year.

Maybe the only folks willing to be politicians these days are either feeble minded, octogenarians and/or insane, or possibly all three.  ;D

Intelligent, stable, and clear-thinking people know enough to run the other way when asked to become a politician. A few years ago, I was invited to enroll in The Oregon Labor Candidate School at no cost. After a couple of sessions (classes) I bowed out. Hmm, does this mean I am/was intelligent, stable, and clear thinking?  ;)

-Just read that Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., will retire from Congress at the end of 2024 after three decades in the Senate and over 50 years in public office. I suspect this is wishful thinking on her part. Sadly, she does not look like she is going to make it until the end of 2024.

She should go home now and enjoy what little time she has left. If she'd give me a call, I could tell her how enjoyable retirement is. When I decide to wake up and get out of bed in the morning, I get to do whatever I want to with my day. My commitments are few and I love this.

-Gonna take a break from Getbig now, fix myself something to eat, and then turn on the television and watch videos of Donald Trump getting arraigned earlier today. -Should be a hoot!

Now that's what I'm talking about.  I always say to my retired friends that when people ask what you are doing in retirement the only right answer is:  whatever the heck I want.

Sounds like you got that figured out.

I knew I heard this response to that question somewhere. Thank you. I used it daily after I submitted my retirement request after nearly 30 years of working for the same school district. Once word got around, the 'what do you have planned for your retirement' question seemed to be all people knew to ask. My answer was pretty much just what you said: whatever I want to on any given day... including absolutely nothing when it pleases me.

Media frequently generalizes by providing incomplete information, thus allowing the reader to come to erroneous conclusions. In this case, considering Feinstein’s advanced age, it is easy to see how some people might take this to mean she is completely incapacitated.

Without more information about the limits this power of attorney, to claim she "cedes" power of attorney to daughter is too broad a statement.

In California there are four types of power of attorney. General power of attorney, limited power of attorney, durable power of attorney, and medical power of attorney. A California limited power of attorney form, otherwise known as a “specific” power of attorney, allows a person to designate an agent to take care of a specific financial matter on their behalf. A medical power of attorney lets an agent make health-care decisions on behalf of a principal. Diane Feinstein was hospitalized for shingles back in (I think) February.

From what I read her daughter (who is a judge) probably has limited power of attorney to handle her mother's legal affairs. Specifically, Diane's late husband's estate which is being contested by children from his previous marriage.

Recent photos showing Diane sitting in a wheelchair with a puffy eye combined with the ravages of old age make her look like she is on death's door... which could very well be, or not.

Many things can cause eye irritation, including allergies, an eye injury, or something lodged in the eye. Once when weed whacking the weed whacker caused a small pebble to fly up and smack the surface of my eyeball hard. The results looked much worse than they were. Within a week the irritation had completely cleared up.

Her Skeletor appearance is likely related to Shingles.  And the clip I posted showing her inability to understand how to vote shows she is having severe mental problems.  So no, trying to downplay her incapacity isn't going to work.

Stating facts about power of attorney and a nasty looking eye (infection?) is not downplaying her presumed incapacity. She is almost 90 years old and even at my age of (still for the next couple of weeks) 78, 90 seems old to me. She recently admitted to further complications from shingles, including that she has Ramsay Hunt syndrome (herpes zoster oticus).  Ramsay Hunt syndrome can cause facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear.

In past posts, I have made it clear that I believe for a variety of reasons that most politicians age out of their ability to perform as our representatives in government. This includes both President Biden and Donald Trump. Based on age, I would not vote for either of them.

I am hearing impaired to the point of needing and wearing hearing aids for the past 7 years. Although I wear the most technologically advanced hearing aids currently available for people with 'severe' hearing loss, they have limitations. One is that they don't work as well as claimed in noisy environments. When engaged in a conversation with someone sitting near me in a crowded restaurant, I find myself 'faking' I am hearing and understanding what are saying. I do a lot of affirmative nodding because most people are looking for agreement, so it is safer than a negative response. No doubt, there are times when my reaction seems weird given what was said to me. Hearing loss can at times be misconstrued as stupidity or senility.

I prefer Zoom meetings because I can situate myself in a quiet location and wear noise canceling BOSE headphones which allow me to hear most of what is being said if the speaker is close enough to the mic. I also wear them to watch television, otherwise, I must turn the volume up so high that it is blasting.

You know, it is possible to question something while not disagreeing. You seem like you have no middle ground. Someone is either all in or they are all out.

I just know BS when I see it.  I also know extreme bias when I see it.  Not making any apologies for pointing it out.

I don't believe in arbitrary age limits.  Not everyone ages the same way.  There is no magic number.  It should all be based on the specific individual.

In the case of Feinstein (and McConnell), they both need to go.  I'm not going to try and downplay how badly either one of them looks.

Biden is obviously not competent to be POTUS.  He can barely put two complete sentences together.  He can barely walk.  He has spent literally almost half his term on vacation.

You might not like Trump, but he isn't cognitively impaired like Biden.  Not even close.  Trump is a narcissist, but not a house plant like Biden.

I object to this inaccurate comment.

There is no similarity:

Kindly refer to her "Strom Thurmond" appearance as it is more apt.

Isn't it currently based on the individual? That is why no matter how old they get they pretty much hang out/on until they are mummified.

Speaking of age, I am getting close to 80 and am in perfect health both physically and mentally. Hmm, maybe I should throw my hat in the ring and campaign for President.  :D  Don't worry, I won't do that. I am too sane to do something that is insane and stupid.

Sen. Mitch McConnell appears to freeze again at a Kentucky event

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared to freeze again Wednesday, this time during a gaggle with reporters in Covington, Kentucky, stopping for more than 30 seconds after he was asked if he would run for re-election.

The Kentucky Republican froze in July at a news conference on Capitol Hill, going silent for 19 seconds before being escorted away from the cameras. McConnell, 81, returned shortly afterward and continued his news conference, telling reporters, “I’m fine.”

When it became apparent that McConnell had frozen again on Wednesday, an aide came up to him and asked, “Did you hear the question, senator?” McConnell continued to be unresponsive.

Once McConnell re-engaged, he responded briefly to another question about Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, a Republican; his aide needed to repeat the question to him. McConnell was then asked about former President Donald Trump, another question that had to be repeated. McConnell brushed off the question because he does not usually engage in Trump-related topics.

He then left.

Is a person who is in congress for 40-50 years MORE or LESS corrupt than one in there for a few terms?

My take is these people are wholly owned to the casket by that point - by either special interest, foreign interest or their own greed, which is why they never leave.

Their souls were sold to the highest bidder over the interest of their "voters" LONG ago.

There's no other explanation for these husks being there. They are in charge of the allocations of trillions and can't live on their own.
