Competitors..how much do you getting ready for a show? What for general health?
-
Little to none, I cruise on diet and genetics. Though I'm sure biking and power walks count as a cardio activity.
-
Does melting down on Getbig count as "cardio?"
-
when Josh comes to visit me in London over Christmas we have a weight loss challenge do I am guessing alot
-
plenty of aerobic sexercise
-
I don't compete (though have plans to look at doing physique) but along with eating as well as possible, I do cardio 3-4 times a week. Twice on the treadmill, then the rest playing sports. Doesn't dice me up lean but keeps the fat off.
-

Running circles around Joon doesn't count
-
When I`m training for a contest,I do 4-5 days of walking on an inclined treadmill for 30 minutes,on Saturday-60 minutes.
Occasionally I`ll mix in the Eliptical trainer just to avoid the boredom.
-
Like 2 times a week wish I had more time- on stairmaster or incline tread
But the majority of the day I spend lugging huge buckets of ice and cinder blocks refrigerators vending machines
-
I try to do 30-40 minutes a day, two 15-20 minute sessions prior to weights, as a warmup. Very easy, these days. Jumping rope or a few sprints.
I also walk for an hour or so many days.
This is for general health -- not a competitor.

Prior to weights? What's the point? Plus walking?

To look nice and skinny.
-
i start every workout with 20-30 minutes of cardio...then another 30-60 minutes at work
bench
-
I do a mile a day, 5 days a week.
Sometimes I'll walk it. Sometimes jog or run it. If I'm in a hurry, I run it. If I'm relaxing, I'll take it easy. I hate the clock, I get way too lazy knowing "29 minutes left..."
I've noticed a huge difference. Haven't changed diet yet, but I feel great, never tire at anything outside of the gym, and appetite has gone up a lot for clean foods.
IMHO, lots of water & lots of walking forgive a lot of bad habits.
-
Prior to weights? What's the point? Plus walking?
Used to be burning calories... now it's just about getting warmed up. I can't jump right into the weights. I need to get my heart pumping and skin sweating or else I don't feel ready. Cardio is like an appetizer for the main course.
Also, running can improve my mood in a way that weights can't. That said, I tend to abuse running, trying to chase the "high", so I'm staying away from long steady state sessions for now.
Walking also helps with mood. I go crazy sitting at a desk for hours on end. Unfortunately, that's the nature of my work.
-
4 times a week on the crosstrainer. 3 hours in total.
-
What works for myself:
AM Cardio: Fasted, LISS 20 minutes, going up to 40 w/ bcaa's closer to comp
Post Workout: 20 - 30 minutes, MISS
*I cannot HIIT and recover/get lean, unless I perform it on an "off day" (still kinda counterproductive, IMO)
-
LOTS - last 6 weeks i'm at 90 min a day - 20min pre - 20 min post workout and another 50 min at noon) - 7 days a week :P
-
Right now my thriving bodybuilding career is on hold. I'm training for a triathlon so 6 hrs cardio a week and about 1.30 or so weights.

eat a bit less and get a life.

To you guys that can go longer than 20 for cardio at the gym, how do you do it mentally? I start getting super bored, to the point of just clock watching and hoping off at then 20min. Id like to be able to hit 45 on the treasmill or stepper but i lose patience

Full, half or sprint?
Watching my wife train for a half, I would suggest to spend a lot of time training in the pool.
-
Some will say that I am too skinny, but in my effort to cut as much as possible, I do 40-50 minutes for 5 times a week morning cardio at the treadmill with empty stomach.
Also I do extreme diet, eating carbs all day long.
-
im leaning out righ tnow usually two sessions per day, i must admit it is hard so i do it first thing 5 am in the morning
and then i run in the afternoon. im a cardio beast
-
I refuse to sacrifice an ounce of muscle. I have a Rascal Scooter to move from the couch to the shitter.
-
eat a bit less and get a life.
Different ways to skin a cat... eating more and doing more cardio gets better results for me. I've tried both ways.
-
I've tried both ways.
Outed.

DAMN! ;D is it too late to say No homo?

We had someone here not long ago eating 3500 cals and doing 90 mins cardio.
Didnt turn out too well as I recall.
-

so I guess the two of you are talking again? :)

Yeah that won't work..When I say eat more my kcal are around 2000 - 2200 with carbs around 80- 60g a day..so not super high carb/calorie - i also throw one high carb 4 hour refeed in every now and then . I've done the -1000 to 1300 and very little LISS cardio didn't work as well. I always think Eating "more" with in reason stimulates metabolism as does hiit cardio so...
-

Never run when you can walk, never walk when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down. Beef It!

aj unfortunately for me , its the rout i have to take to get lean, theres a couple people on here who know me. trust me there are days im fucking dead, and dont want to do the second session, but in two monthes im taking a very long vacation out of the country . i have no choice
-
prowler 2x a week and maybe 15 mins of step mill 3x a week

I am, of course, kidding. But my "cardio" consists of 30 minute HIIT sessions 3x/week.
-
Almost all of my "cardio" is conditioning and intertwined with lifting/running/rucking, etc.......
-
for general health, 3 times a week for 15-20 minutes at a moderate intensity does the job
-

I doubt the "general health" benefits of 45 minutes of exercise a week are significant.
-
I doubt the "general health" benefits of 45 minutes of exercise a week are significant.
it's Dr. Kenneth Copper's recommendation actually
According to Dr. Cooper, there are two levels of training that we are looking at here:
1) Health and Longevity Training
2) Aerobic Training
Health and Longevity Training is defined as 30 minutes, collectively, of activity, regardless of the heart rate response. This means moving, 20 minutes 4 times a week or 30 minutes 3 times a week to provide health protective and wellness measures for – you got it, increased health and longevity.
In contrast Aerobic and Cardio Training means you must keep the heart rate elevated to between 65% and 80% of the maximum heart* for those same periods of time: 20 minutes 4 times a week, or 30 minutes 30 times a week.
The difference here, according to Dr. Cooper, is the deeper intensity with the Aerobic Training – also called Cardio – has a more dramatic impact on slowing the age response, accelerating weight loss, and is a rule of thumb preventative extra measure for disease prevention.

Does a 5 min warmup on an elliptical count? I've never even brought my calories below 3000 calories during a cut. I guess I'm as ectopmotph as it gets AKA tiny tit throughout high school. Man gravy straight from the tap hadn't been discovered yet
-
Depending on how I feel I'll do either of the following but always first thing in the morning on an empty stomach outside of a glass or two of alkaline water.
Go to the park and run 2 miles, or run one lap as a warm up and begin running stairs, and running agility drills and circuit training for 45 min. ie. or 30 min of HIT cardio. I do this 5 days per week and always switch up up between the three. It keeps it fun for me. I can honestly say that since I've been doing this June 1st. I've never felt more alert, functional, energized and young. I have no plans on stopping because I actually get a high from it. Real, creative and intense cardio is no joke but it so beneficial in so many ways outside of just weightloss. Bodybuilding related. None of these guy could run a mile under 7 min. They literally would die.
-
Walk my two dogs a half a mile twice a day.
-
None.
Will only do it if I get high BP, otherwise, fuck it.

I agree. I despised running, but I realized it was I never got over the initial phases that suck....now I sometimes do three miles, alternating 1/4 sprints as just a warmup before exercise. Did this the other day - always feel the need to mix in running now.
Good workout followed shit workout from Friday. Strep must be leaving my system.
1 mile @ 6:34
1/4 mile 80lb sand bag carry (arms crossed in front, not on shoulder) stop 4 times and do 25 push up, 100 total.
1 mile @ 6:53
100 yard weight pull (backwards run and row)
1/4 mile 80lb sand bag carry on shoulders. Stop half way and do 50 plyo jumps up bleachers, 1:03 plank at end
50 yard 40lb sand bag rotational throw followed by 5 push up (50 total) / 50 crunch
1 mile run @ 6:38 1:05 plank at end

Yeah - once you find your comfort zone with stride etc and reach the point where it's automatic and you're just kind of floating, it's great. And the endorphin rush is real.

you got that right buddy and hey when i feel im pushing to hard, i power walk for a few minutes and then start back up again
and i must say running is the best and hardest form of cardio very affective when you get it down
-
I do the precor/stairmaster/elliptical. Never used to do it and hated doing it. Now I do it because I am married and makes it easier to diet as it helps to burn off some extra calories. Hard for me to be too "restrictive" when eating her food as I don't want her to feel disappointed, etc.

Oh poor you, you have someone to make you food! No complaining man, never had a woman make food for me!!!

Haha, I guess it could came across that way. I should have said its too good to pass up and I don't have the willpower in me anymore to do that so do cardio to make up for it.
Definitely not complaining. Nice to not have to come home and make stuff up (though I do help out often as well).
-
I almost never do cardio.
It's a bad habit i know but as long as I can weight train 4 or 5 times a week and eat fairly clean and I can see/feel my abs then I consider cardio a waste of time.
I just find it too boring - can't use the treadmill in the gym anymore as I zone out after about 15 mins and the only time I do anything that remotely resembles cardio is when I decide to walk to the shops for groceries (40 min round trip) instead of taking my car. And I'll probably do that once every two weeks.
-

I've always been tha cook... Not that I make fancy stuff, just don't like relying on others as they fail me way too often.
-
not much... sometimes rowing machine. 3-4 1km sprints
everytime I do cario I feel like it's a braindead timeconsuming activity and I could be doing better things with my time
-
eat a bit less and get a life.
have you seen his pics?
dude comes is RIPPED AND DRY

Do you get this rush every time?
I first discovered it recently. It was like a revelation! But then, I think I pushed too far... the effect diminished the more I upped the mileage. Eventually I had too much anxiety to get past the beginning phase -- the thought of another run or hours long bike ride made me sick.
I also found it a little difficult to balance so much cardio with weights. Do you do traditional bodybuilding/powerlifting style weight training as well?
-

You can get away with that when you're young. Once you hit middle age, things like running on hard surfaces and poor biomechanics start to catch up with you.
I currently run twice a week. One run is about 3 miles with some speed work and sprints mixed in. The other is about 5 miles of jogging. Three times a week is hard if you do a bodybuilding leg day one a week. You'll either be running the day before or after squats.
-
lizzay i totally agree i cut back this week. myself
i also must concur you have to be on mentally to run, or jog, like you have to be wenting to do it. if not it is miserable
-

dude comes is RIPPED AND DRY
I have seen his pics and know how ripped he gets, doesnt alter the fact cardio burns calories and eating less reduces calories.
End result is less bodyfat in both cases.

100% Whatever method used - energy restriction or expenditure - Depending on the goal..Everyone will have to feel uncomfortable, and be accustom to SUFFER/feeling hungry/tired/miserable/moody etc. and be consistently disciplined enough for LONG periods of time to get to that crazy condition (I'm talking striated glutes here not a 6 pack - that’s like "level 1" LOL) no way around that! damn I had times I felt like I was going to have a break down, fragile and questioning myself is this worth it etc. anyone can restrict calories for a few days -- but it's the relentless weeks upon weeks upon months with all of life’s pressures (admin, work, relationships etc.) it does get easier as you become accustom to it but this is what makes most people cave in eventually - very small % of people have the "mental toughness" to endure to very low levels of bodyfat right to the end and for long peroids of time - I'm talking like sub 3-4% here

I have never seen anyone sub 3-4%, you carry that amount of fat around your organs.
Guys have had dexa scans looking shredded and it comes up 8%
-

Get outside that´s my advice.. I run at a good clip for about 45-60 mins. Can´t say i´m bored because i´m looking around me and running at a good pace . I think of other things too and i find problems become clearer in my mind. Depending where you live run on the streets or like Oldtimer at the beach and see some Girls ;D
-
I watch videos on youtube at my tablet and that helps me a lot mentally.
But the best is that the results motivates you to do it... to kee going...
P.S. It's only gay if you wanted to be, but the stairmaster works perfectly on hamstrings. It helps to make them "long" (it's not the right term, but I don't know a better work to translate it from Greek) and ripped.
-

Guys have had dexa scans looking shredded and it comes up 8%
??? what % do you think I was here...lol doubt "8%" man..had no padding under my feet, could not sit on a hard chair, hips popped and crunched when I walked..could feel the tendons swopping - was freaky! at least sub 5%?
-
Dry, dry and dry!!!
This is not only the low fat, but the right low amount of water!!!
Tis is the best of me at 71 kgs, 180m tall. 7-8% holding a tone of water.
-
Competitors..how much do you getting ready for a show? What for general health?
15 minutes hiit + 20 minutes steady state, before i eat any carbs.
60 - 80 minutes of weight training followed by another 20 minutes of steady state.
5 days a week and i'm actually trying to put on weight.
eating 8 clean meals a day though 4k - 5k kcal, could easily eat more, see how it goes.
-
Lots of ripped fucking Getbiggers ITT. Props!

Opposite for me. I much prefer the treadmill. I despise being distracted when running and outside there'll be too many of those. I get into a nice rhythm, music on and I zone out. Before you know it 40min is up and I'm the fuck outta there.
-

I have seen your pics before that is indeed low body fat, I stil dont think its under 3%
As I said before you have internal viceral fat around the organs.
Oh and if you ate normally after that show and blew up with 15lbs of water people would say you were 8-10% by looking at you when in reality you BF would be lower
The drier you are the higher your BF% becomes in relation to your overall bodyweight. ;)
-

Great post, spot on, there is a man who ACTUALLY knows his shit
-

Looks peeled dude.
I don't use drugs, none will believe me but I don't care...
I used Anabeta Elite for the first 7 weeks and then Nolvadren XT (reaaaly good product) and Alphamine.
I did everything I could: morning cardio, spend money at solarium in oder to thin my skin, I spend a lot of money on my diet, I was eating a lot of carbs in order to keep some size and I ate a lot of fish at the end... so as a true Getbigger I will answer: It is all salmon and tilapia!!!
HAHAHAHA
P.S. With a t'shirt, I am so small that I look like a normal guy...
-

On a pure run I get the rush....when it's mixed with conditioning and weights I just feel tired.
I still do squats/deads/presses........once a week on each....although no box squats / DL until Oct - tweaked my back last month and don't want to fuck up any of the events I'm doing.
I've learned to be patient with the weights = I learned the hard way like everyone by trying to come back from injuries and tweaks....now I know whenever I start back, I'll ramp up quickly to the totals I used to lift.
-

I just see a skinny dude.
Must suck to wear a size small or medium.
-
being lean as a natty is fucking pointless. you will just look like a stringy beanpole douche
sexdrive = to shit
strength = to shit
mass = to shit
10-12% is enough for a natty... ripped no..
-
That's you guys... I like the challenge of a low bodyfat period.
Plus, chicks also like it, I can easily find clothes at small sizes with discount, and at the beach people stearing the definition and the quality.
Sexdrive is on top with an antiestrogen supplement!!!
I have to agree that an easy to maintain 12% is enough... but everybody can do it...
-
??? what % do you think I was here...lol doubt "8%" man..had no padding under my feet, could not sit on a hard chair, hips popped and crunched when I walked..could feel the tendons swopping - was freaky! at least sub 5%?
that's a very dry 4%
what was your height/weight in that pic bro?
-
Must suck to wear a size small or medium.
Only to those with body dismorphyc disorder.
For most normal people, the size of the shirt they wear is irrelevant, even moreso if they're in shape like him.
-
that's a very dry 4%
what was your height/weight in that pic bro?
so adding 10lb of water on top of that would make his BF what?
-
so adding 10lb of water on top of that would make his BF what?
it would make it less than 4%
as water counts as a non-fat entity, just as skin, hair, bones. organs do the same
basically the only thing that counts as fat in a measure of body fat is indeed bodyfat ;)
-
I grew up swimming all my life so thats what I do for cardio, I hate just about any other types like running though. Its full body cardio, and if you have been doing it for years I feel like its easier to build up a nice back when you hit the weights. Also some guys on my team were deceptively strong since a lot of those guys look like twinks lol. Some of the sprinters I've seen at the higher tier meets had some tree trunk legs and jumped off the block like they were fucking superman.
Also, some of the other teams (specifically a mostly all black team in Atlanta) looked suspiciously jacked, probably had some help with genetic potential by getting some magic protein shakes. These kids were 13 years old and looked like grown men. Some of them had thick beards too, it was just bizarre.
-
30 minutes of steady state on a stationary bike on most days. This is more for heart health and maintaining cholesterol levels more than anything else.
-

Exactly, and thats why he isnt the BF you claim
You can only drop BF so low without killing yourself.
Someone that dry could well be 7/8% and still look that ripped.
-

Exactly Heart Health is important and Good Cholesterol.

LOL!!! He's my height but 70lbs less, lol... Abs on a skinny guy are like boobs on a fat girl. They don't man...
Speaking of body dismorphyc disorder, by the looks of him and the super thin face I see, he suffers of just that.
-
I don't use drugs, none will believe me but I don't care...
A rather conceited comment. You look good but I don't think most would accuse you of steroids. Have a ironman/runner look to you which isn't something to sneeze at but your comment is offbase.
-
Speaking of body dismorphyc disorder, by the looks of him and the super thin face I see, he suffers of just that.
Come on... you critisising me very bad...
Look at my body's dismporphyc disorder...
@mazrim
You got a right point!!! Only a guy that don't knows about steroids can say that I am on steroids... please.. -10 kgs from my height...
