Surprised no one has chimed in "it's the owner not the dog."

The uncle was arguing with a woman on the front porch of the Akron home.

“The little girl was left inside the house with the two family pets and as this disturbance, fight, was occurring outside, it’s believed that the dogs reacted and turned their aggression to this beautiful 16-month-old little girl,” Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett told the outlet.

They are animals.

Even while domesticated they can still react this way to aggression. I've seen this with many dogs over the years.

While it's not entirely the pitbulls fault; the problem lies that these dogs have an extreme ability to do a lot of damage in a short time.

I'm not against having them as pets, but people need to understand the danger of having such a strong and powerful animal at home.

I've seen what they can do when properly motivated.

Dogs are like firearms.  There are some people that just should not be allowed to own them.  Pitbull or otherwise.

Yes, no claws or long teeth.

This was at a family friends in other words the dogs did not know the little girl and did not consider her a family member. You don't leave a 1 year old with strange dogs that don't know them. Add in a loud fight on the porch and it was a recipe for disaster.
