People seem to forget that History has cycles of power, natural shifts which sometimes takes hundreds of years. America has only been a superpower for 1.5 centuries...i'm sure the Turks/Greeks/Syrians felt invincible at some point but look at them now.
Realistically America will experience a huge power shift in the next century.

In order for people to get out into the streets and actually do some kind of violent protest against the government there would have to be empty shelves at the local grocery store, tv/internet service would have to be interrupted.
That shit would last for a couple of days and then all the protestors would be considered domestic terrorists and throw into FEMA prisons to rot for a while and then trying to fight cases against the federal government. The rest would be mowed down by our military.
Simpletons can't fathom American military killing its own citizens. And they're right.
The media/government would label these citizens as terrorists and then all bets are off.
People would have no problem killing terrorists.
Look what happened in Boston after marathon bomber. Martial law was created. Without warrants cops swept every house with minimal protest. People took that right up their ass.

McCain seems to hate communism from his heart. Assad's Syria is basically the last relic of "Socialist Arab proxys". It was very close to USSR back in the day. He wants it gone.
As if it would matter in todays world anyways. Communism has been dead for decades now. But I think it's the ghost of it that is in his head.
Plus he's somewhat a showman. And sure, he sees it possible and justified to make sure Russia never gains back its influence.

In 2000 the division became the 40th Independent Motor Rifle Brigade, and on 1 September 2007 the 40th Naval Infantry Brigade (40 отд. Краснодарско-Харбинская дважды Краснознаменная бригада морской пехоты).
From 2000 onwards, the Caspian Flotilla included a new naval infantry brigade, the 77th, based at Kaspiysk. The headquarters and two battalions of the brigade were scheduled to be established by August 1, 2000.[2] It was reported by Agenstvo Voyenniykh Novostyei (AVN) in June 2000 that the new brigade, which may have inherited the lineage of the 77th Motor Rifle Division,[3][4] was to have its troops housed in Kaspiysk and Astrakhan, along with as many as 195 combat vehicles and two hovercraft sent to it from Chukotka and the Northern Fleet, respectively. JS: Well I think the current government as it is currently composed will just blame Russia for the problems that will come with an austerity budget. So they have the opportunity to deflect the information either by IMF or even the EU. So I think that is one of the consequences that we might see. Of course Ukraine’s economy is a very precarious place right now. It could be more competitive if it could receive the reduced energy prices which Russia was offering. That would make its chief export sector – metals even more competitive and it can be quite good for it. But if Russian gas prices go up for Ukraine, this could be quite bad for them.
RT: Given East Ukraine, which is gripped by mass pro-Russian protests, is the most economically developed part of the country. How will the current divisions affect Ukraine's economy?
JS: Well it is really depended upon how much control the central government can assert over the east. So if the east loses its export markets in Russia, it can also be quite devastating for it. Ukraine has international markets beyond Russia and the CIS for its metal products but again if Russian gas prices for Ukraine go up then those metal products are going to be less competitive on the world markets. So it is a very difficult situation for Ukraine and its economy.

Among the nukes located in Ukrainian SSR were R-36 "Satans" (10 warhead monsters). There was more nukes based there than what Britain, France and China had combined.
As well there were dozen or so (can't remember exactly) of heavy strategic bombers (meant to carry nukes) located in Ukraina. Russia bought some of them and the rest were scrapped (A shame but Ukraine didn't want to give them free and Russia at the time was basically bankrupt too).
As said, all the nukes were dismantled under international agreements starting from 1994. Russian Federation, USA and UK agreed to ensure the safety of independent Ukraine in case Ukraine was threatened by nuclear strikes.
I think the agreement was not ratified by too many countries after all. It was a top priority for international community to prevent former Soviet nuclear arsenal ending up in wrong hands.

they sanctioned the failed gov't in exile of Ukraine and froze their assets in Europe.....and the destroyer was a long ago scheduled training mission ;D ;)

“This whole thing that Putin is the big cause of the trouble, and yet there’s pretty good evidence that the Europeans as well as the American government had to contrive to have the overthrow of a government that most people say had been elected,” Paul said.
“And then for them to come along and say, ‘Well, it’s an illegal government,’ and they want to have a referendum now, you know, in Crimea, ‘Oh, no, that’s not permissible, Everything that Putin does is illegal. He’s no angel, but actually he has some law on his side,” he added.
