IMO, Guiliani's threat yesterday that there will be another 911 if we let a dem into the white house, really shows the level of fearmongering they are at ALREADY. McCain sings about bombing a nation of 70 million. Romney is already running his TV ads - as if he's already won the nomination - and leads in money. And Thompson has 20% of Repubs already, and hasn't announced anything.
Interesting little race. I've never wanted a dem in the white house, but I do see where bringing in a new team allows them to clean up the stains of the last. GWB cleaned up Clinton's wet spot, but created a blood stain in its place. perhaps the next winner can wipe away the blood and oil, and return our nation to dignity in the world.

There is no way Hillary will win. If a Dem wins, I think it will be someone that is a total suprise. I think all front runners on both sides have already tarnished reputations.

Actually Hillary has an excellent chance of winning. The fact that the people that dislike her, dislike her deeply doesn't change the fact that she can very well win the the primary and the general elections.

Kusinich is schooling everyone.
He called for ending the war immediately with resolution HR1234. Cut all funding, use the $ in the pipeline to bring the troops home, and replace them with an international peacekeeping force.

Actually he did very well. Gravel was the most entertaining. Obama wasn't as smooth as he usually is. Richardson probably blew any chance after admitting that he delayed calling for Gonzales removal because he was hispanic. Dodd smart but lackluster. Biden good on responses. Hillary still the front runner. :)

Biden was obnoxious. Raised his hand to be included in Gravel's criticisms. Just a d-bag.
hilary did no damage. Obama was a tad awkward. Kuscinich was outshined by Gravel as the anti-establishment guy. Edwards was quiet and unimpressive. Dodd, nothing special.

I didn't get to see much of the debate because I was at dinner, but one question I saw before I left really sums up the Democrat way of thinking that makes me hesitant to support them. Dodd was asked what I thought was a good question (forgive me if I miss quote):
"I have to work a full time job to make an honest living. Shouldn't a drug addict have to make an effort to work in order to recieve welfare?"
Dodds response had a few things that bothered me and I would love to hear others POVs.
1. He said that he felt addicts should recieve welfare no questions asked because why should they suffer (I believe in working for what you have)
2. He called addiction a "disease" (living with several alcholics in the family I hate that they call addiction a disease)
I would like to know what everyone thinks, but in my mind it cements the fact that Democrats believe in to many handouts which I feel has become a major detrement to our society. Anyone?

I see Dodd as a non-factor, will prob pull out due to lack of funds.

IMO, 4 years of handouts here and 4 years of *not* handing out over there, might not be a bad thing.
$200 mil a day spent in iraq. A *little* of that money would feel good here in America.

I'll give you that we could bring more of our money home, but I would like to see it going to the working man (me maybe!) and not to welfare. I am definately on the conservative side when it comes to earning what you have. Working with young kids on a daily basis in the military I see first hand how the handout program has affected discipline and the mission quality.
Might sound weird but one of my biggest pet peeves is the handing out of trophies to little leaugers just for participating. I have a shelf full my self but everyone was earned. I can remember years of finishing 2nd and not reciving a trophy (small town/limited funds) and thinking all school year about playing harder and practicing more to get the 1st place next year. I think we are losing that in the US.

I'm sorry but addiction is not an ilness. I don't care what definition some person put on it. Alcholism, porn addiction, smoking are all things that can be stopped with a little will power and nothing else.

How can you consider something that millions of people have stopped, an illness? All it takes is willpower. If you can't kick a drug addiction you are weak, not sick

I'm curious, do you believe that homosexuality is a choice and that homosexuals can stop being homosexual anytime they want?

I have seen 2 very interesting studies. One says it is nurture over nature, the other says nature over nurture. I am not sure about homosexuality yet, and am still looking into it. My opinion as of today is that there might be a small percentage that are born with the wires crossed. I think the large majority choose to be gay for whatever reason.
I find it hard to relate homosexuality and drug addiction. Even though a baby might have been born to a crack addict mother and is "addicted" from day one. They are also born with the will power to fight that addiction, because obviously 100% of babies born to drug addicts don't end up an addict themselves right?

alcoholism is a symptom of addiction in the blood.
it's a compulsion. you might fulfill your addiction with sex, alcohol, work, sports, who knows. it's a compulsion., has nothing to do with the alcohol, it has to do with the urges and need you feel. When drunks stop being drunks, they replace that addiction with something else.

If you're referring to my question I wasn't trying to relate homosexuality with drug addiction. I was trying to find out your point of view. From reading your posts I guessed that you were of the opinion that homosexuality was a choice.
In all honesty I wasn't trying to open a discussion on whether homosexuality wasn't a choice.

Guess they are. A major problem in today's society is everything is given a label which allows people to shrug off responsibility for their actions. If you can stop through sheer will power it isn't a disease. You quit having cancer through will power or Aids for that matter. You can man up and quit drugs however. Quit making excuses for people.
