Maybe not necessarily. But chances are much higher that such a relationship will fail. Sure there are always exceptions (my paternal grandparents being one of them), but especially these days it seems to be the exception, not the rule.

i dunno, i guess 10-12 sexual partners per year (about a new girl per month), so probably if one were to get the ball rolling sexually, they can go from age 20 to 30 they would have had 100 or more sexual partners, assuming they are not the relationship type
i guess you can accrue more if you had the right connections and you were rich and handsome and you really sought out a new girl to bang each week, that could easily get into the thousand by age 40. thing is, would you even want to be living that lifestyle by the age of 30 even... women are pretty draining

Statistics bear you out if you are speaking about developed countries, particularly the U.S. I disagree that people who play the field for several years necessarily end up in solid and lasting relationships. I don't have statistics to support this, but I believe it to be true.
