I found this as well. AA worked temporarily for me - but after a while, it got to the point where I realized the people simply replaced their drugs with AA/NA.
Ive done my best simply focusing on things that make me happy - my wife, sparring/training/working out, hot rods... anything that occupies my mind and that I can enjoy (and maybe get a little adrenaline rush out of as well)

Exactly bro..........these people act like their world will end without attending tons of meetings per week.

Just another fucking addiction,but it is better than being a drunk,but in many ways,it`s just replacing a positive addiction for a negative one but it`s still an addiction.

My wife,dogs,jobs,hobbies,training,and friends and family really help me to stay busy.

Same with me Wes.  I always compared myself with all of the heroin and heavy drug addicts at NA.  I was there through court order for weed.. ::).  So needless to say hearing all of their stories made me feel I was wayyyy better than them.  But yeah,  about the people becoming addicted to meetings is so true.  I would go on different nights sometimes and see the same people.  I cannot imagine being that fucked up in the head to where if I don't attend a meeting I will be sucking a dick for a shot of H.  I got to where I just enjoyed the meetings for the stories. ;D

But for the original topic..I have come close to death many times.  Almost drowned in Cancun, Car accidents,  Gun pointed at me.  I think most people have come close to death at some point.

What I meant by comparing myself to them was that these guys were drinking Aqua-Velva after shave and rubbing alcohol and I figured,what a bunch of lowlifes with no hustle,they can`t even hustle up a buck for a bottle of Wild Irish Rose...then I`d leave the meeting with a pocketfull of donuts.........just kidding!  LOL  :D
