Alright...I'm back home from another day of work.... :P I drove it home Monday after signing the paperwork...its an all cash purchase that I made so I can keep my insurance cost at a minimum. Cruising in this vehicle is just awesome......just freaking smooth. I have it currently at Fisher's Garage for inspection and to clear up some minor issues. It is not a perfect car but its my car and I always wanted to get a Jaguar and I only wanted a certain one in a certain color. Leather seats need to be cleaned and conditioned, needs to be detailed, AC needs some freon, headlights need to be scrubbed of oxidation, and the chrome needs to be polished but its no biggie.
This isn't going to be a daily driver and I'll likely just drive it on weekends but its going to be nice pulling up to the gym on Saturday like a boss.

There is 5 different engine types for the Jaguar S-Type. Each Jaguar is also very unique as they can be customized. Mine actually still has its car phone in it...I'll have to show everyone when I get the car back. Mine was a typical executive car with all the bells and whistle that you would expect out of a car that used to cost 50k brand new. I'm keeping mine all the same...no stupid 20 inch rims or spinners or whatever the fuck people put on them. Its a great car on its own without all of that.

Nope but it still burns up the highway. I'm decent at cleaning and detailing but when it comes to working on cars, I always have my vehicles taken to Fisher's Garage in Greenville....been counting on them for almost 20 years. They aren't the least expensive but they are the most competent and most honest. But one thing is for sure. When I was parked at a stop light, the car got a lot of looks from people next to me. Its a good feeling to have.

Congrats man, when I bought my Land Rover (Jaguar/ land rover - same factory) I got the impression that the Jags were the more mechanically reliable of the two - which is a good thing, as Landy's are notorious for turning a novice into an at home mechanic because of various issues. Beautiful car you've got there.

Same engine used in the Lincoln LS. I think they were pretty reliable.
This is correct. I had an 05 LS and it was a great car, the main issue were the coil packs going bad.

Well guys...as I mentioned I was having the car inspected and didn't anticipate any real problems as the CarFax came back clean and it drove like a charm..but I got back word from Fishers Garage that the car was at one point submerged underwater to my astonishment :P. Electrical cords were frayed, rust...unrepairable and not road worthy.
So I went and drove that car right back to the dealer. It sucks that I only owned that car for 48 hours but that's why I always tell people to have a vehicle inspected. It definitely could have been worse as I could have gotten killed driving down the highway

Electrical cords were frayed, rust...unrepairable and not road worthy.
So I went and drove that car right back to the dealer. It sucks that I only owned that car for 48 hours but that's why I always tell people to have a vehicle inspected. It definitely could have been worse as I could have gotten killed driving down the highway

I checked the car through Carfax, test drove the vehicle, checked the electronics, engine, transmission, tires, and even with all the checks I made I took it to Fisher's to be inspected......in fact, if it wasn't for all the steps I took, I would have been stuck with a flooded car. I paid using my Etrade Visa and I've filed a dispute against the transaction.
Ultimately, there wasn't much more I could have done and I certainly didn't expect the results as only a nutcase would attempt to sell a flooded car in South Carolina without disclosing it....its illegal

A few things
1. Don't buy a 16 year old used car, especially one that would have required a ton on maintenance even when brand new
2. Don't buy a Jag, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc.. unless you have money to burn and you're a "car guy". The basic maintenance (tires, brakes, etc..) will cost you a bundle.
3. Pick a something that is super reliable like Lexus (my preference) or if you need to go down a bit Honda or Toyota
4. Don't buy new (not that you would) - look for low mileage on 3 year lease returns. Now is a good time and next year will probably be even better - http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-01-23/soaring-lease-returns-set-wreak-havoc-auto-industry
5. Don't finance the car with a credit card (WTF) unless that card is < 1% all the time. The other problem with a credit card is that its not an amortized payment so unless you're disciplined about paying down principal (I don't get the impression that you are) you'll wind up finding excuses each month to only pay the minimum payment. Better to pay cash or compare financing with dealership vs. credit unions. The best car is one that is highly reliable and paid off.
6. Don't brag about it or post it to the internet. Nobody cares. It's just a car.

If it was 900 dollars, it's cheap. A Jaguar is luxury vehicle, so that should have been a clue. $900 dollar 2001 Jaguar is "walk away, very quickly", because it will have some problems. You would have spent far, far more in getting that Jag up to Inspection, even if the car was not flood damaged. Another is that apparently someone rebadged the car to 4.0, indicating it's a V8, when you said it's a 3.0 V6. Another clue. You should have had someone look at the car with you. If you wanted a Jag, there are plenty of CPO XF (replacement for the S Type) models. And you can also get the XK coupe for less, because it has been discontinued.

Too bad it was flooded, Vince. But that's so, so common. There are dealers everywhere who specialize in turning those over, very profitably, and only rarely to be caught. They create a chain of possession which makes it tough to show for sure that they know (or knew) what's up, at least for any one sale.

Alright...I'm back home from another day of work.... :P I drove it home Monday after signing the paperwork...its an all cash purchase that I made so I can keep my insurance cost at a minimum. Cruising in this vehicle is just awesome......just freaking smooth. I have it currently at Fisher's Garage for inspection and to clear up some minor issues. It is not a perfect car but its my car and I always wanted to get a Jaguar and I only wanted a certain one in a certain color. Leather seats need to be cleaned and conditioned, needs to be detailed, AC needs some freon, headlights need to be scrubbed of oxidation, and the chrome needs to be polished but its no biggie.
This isn't going to be a daily driver and I'll likely just drive it on weekends but its going to be nice pulling up to the gym on Saturday like a boss.

During the credit crunch in 2008 I was offered one for $75,000 but decided against it. Last week I paid $370,000 for a mint one. I'm hoping it maintains its value but if not at least I can say I owned my dream car. Get it next week.

Unfortunately when the bubble last burst 10 years ago I didn't have the cash or the desire to invest in them but now that I've sold my company and am getting 2% interest in my savings I wish I had sucked up every classic I could afford 4 years ago. Remember Pam Ewing's Mercedes 500sl Mercedes in Dallas? 5 years ago they were $30,000 in the UK and now they are $75,000. If you go back to the pagoda 280sl you could pick one up for $50,000 but now they are $120,000 4 years later. Maybe they are heading for another crash but at least I can say I owned my dream Ferrari and my kids will either benefit from it or they will see their inheritance reduce. I don't give a fuck either way as they will still get a hefty slice of cash when I cop it. Maybe Vince's Jag will rocket in value over the next decade.

I checked the car through Carfax, test drove the vehicle, checked the electronics, engine, transmission, tires, and even with all the checks I made I took it to Fisher's to be inspected......in fact, if it wasn't for all the steps I took, I would have been stuck with a flooded car. I paid using my Etrade Visa and I've filed a dispute against the transaction.

Here is a photo I took at Katoomba of some pretty Brazilian girls. One girl was taking a photo of the others with a phone. So I offered to take some of them with my camera. They were delighted and we got some nice shots.
I put them on my site and they downloaded them when they got home. This is just a gesture I do for other people. Having a good camera often gets others asking me to take photos of them. I don't mind at all.

In the late 80's I had near new diesel Peugeot 505 STI. The previous owners blew-up the engine when it overheated in eastern Oregon. Rather than have it rebuilt, they gave the car to a friend of mine who's a master mechanic. My friend offered me the car for the price of the materials. I believe I paid him $1,500. It was a great deal. It also was the most comfortable car I've ever owned. Eventually the cost of imported parts went crazy, so I traded it in on a new 94 Jetta.
You almost never see them on the road anymore.

Alright...I'm back home from another day of work.... :P I drove it home Monday after signing the paperwork...its an all cash purchase that I made so I can keep my insurance cost at a minimum. Cruising in this vehicle is just awesome......just freaking smooth. I have it currently at Fisher's Garage for inspection and to clear up some minor issues. It is not a perfect car but its my car and I always wanted to get a Jaguar and I only wanted a certain one in a certain color. Leather seats need to be cleaned and conditioned, needs to be detailed, AC needs some freon, headlights need to be scrubbed of oxidation, and the chrome needs to be polished but its no biggie.
This isn't going to be a daily driver and I'll likely just drive it on weekends but its going to be nice pulling up to the gym on Saturday like a boss.
this is just fucking sad

My reference was to mid 80's through 90's Peugeot and Jaguars. Today Jaguar is no longer owned by Ford. Part's for Peugeot were imported since the brand was never made in the U.S. By the I unloaded mine, parts were not only expensive but hard to find. So yes, ancient history.

Your history is old. Jags are some of the most reliable premium cars on the road. The materials & workmanship that goes into an XJ, which retails at over $115,000 USD, is simply mindblowing. They don't break down basically ever.

But if I want to own and drive around in a 17 year old Jaguar, then that's my business. I work very hard at my job in addition to running my business and I've been investing and putting away money for retirement for many years and I've made wish and solid purchases.....but sometimes in life, you have to make unconventional purchases as well simply for personal enjoyment. I like the S-Type models that came out when Ford owned the company. I've always enjoyed driving them...they handle well on the road and they are never out of style in any environment.
So, eventually I'll find another one I like and purchase it....simply because I like the car no different than people who buy Corvettes or Trans-Am's.

S-Types are seemingly in short supply in North Carolina. But, it's the maintenance that will be the killer. Especially on a 14-17 year old Jaguar, which are not known for their reliability. It's probably best to make a thread when actually you get it, have it in your possession, and are making payments on it.

I want something no so low now. Yeah I looked at the SQ5, but that's noticeably bulkier and uglier IMO, plus I like the 5 cylinder turbo noise, paying homage to the old Group B rally weapons of a bygone era.
I'm going to look at a GLA43 also. Would love a Porsche Macan, but can't justify the price premium.

I watched my estate agent glide up a rough, steep, muddy clay driveway in his while I had to take a second run and hit it at speed in my 4wd isuzu truck with double back tires. Thankfully no ladies were present that fateful day to witness my short dickedness.
Or maybe not since he just had trouble with his catalytic converter (but the diesel kind), which was expensive. Apparently it's an industry wide problem tho. Computers and emissions sensors, etc.

Fluids should still be changed on a regular basis. Short trips actually require more frequent engine oil changes than long trips. Common issues with infrequently driven vehicles include shortened battery life and flat spotted tires.

Last year I bought what I suspect is a similarly sized vehicle. Mine is a Mazda CX3 AWD Grand Touring model with all the bells and whistles. It is mostly just for me (and my Rat Terrier) since my wife passed away in 2015. Volvo is a more prestigious and expensive car. The Mazda was priced at just under $30,000. Anyway, I couldn't be happier with my car. The fit is perfect. Occasionally, I miss having the bigger cargo space I had in my 2004 Mazda 6 sports wagon.
If you don't need a full sized SUV, these new compact ones are great. They are sporty, fun to drive and, depending on which one you choose, pretty luxurious. I'd say go for it!

nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes. '09-'12 S-Class's are everywhere for under $20k but you better get an aftermarket warranty.

Bearing in mind I am an expert on cars and act as consultant to all the major vehicle producers regarding the design and spec of vall their new models I would advise you to get a Skoda Fabia, try and find one from 1999, they were the original launch model, they took over from the Skoda Felicia, which was phased out in 2001.
They are a great little car and if you can find one without any rust on it then its akin to finding a straight piece of wood in B&Q.

I was a member of IronAge for quite a while before it got the virus. I left the forum circa 2010 or maybe a bit later and I think it was still going by the time I left.
Anyway, I can confirm that Lydia Tack (Zabo's ex wife) was assumed by basically everyone on the forum to be her. It was never assumed to be a gimmick, at least in the time when I was there. There have been gimmicks there in the past like Clayton, who were found out to be gimmicks with falsified stories and banned. As far as I'm aware, it was the real Lydia posting. She had an incredible amount of rare photos of her, Zabo, Arnold, Franco and the whole muscle gang from the 60s, 70s and onwards. If it was a gimmick, it would be given the Oscar for best gimmick.
Remember, basically everyone on the forum enjoyed Lydia's posts and didn't think she was a gimmick. So, I can vouch for Vince B in this case as I was a member when all of it was happening.
If someone can provide Shawn's exact reason for Vince B being banned, then do so. Because until you prove Lydia was a gimmick of Vince's, I don't think you can say it was. It's only speculation and bad speculation at that.
If Vince B was banned for anything, it was probably for the negative (whether true or not) comments about Arnold. As he's posted here, Vince B has accused Arnold of something pretty serious. I don't know why he was banned but if I was to hazard a guess, it would be because of those comments. As I said, I left IronAge before it closed for good, so I don't know exactly what went on after I left, just when I was there.
Various members were banned for comments about Arnold or negative things about the muscle game. So, that's most likely why Vince B was banned.

During 2003, Ron finally turned the guest feature off and did clean the board (think he switched to SMF, then). I don't have any posts from 2003 left, and in fact very few from 2004, but then the biggest "virus" of this board is Ron. Ron cleans house, a lot.

Obviously comprehension and retention is not a strong point with the Flotsam. I never took photos of Zabo's ex wife Lydia. After Zabo died various people posted about him. Lydia read the story about how this gal upstaged Arnold at Santa Monica Beach way back in October 1968. Arnold and I arrived in LA in the first week in October. We both liked hanging out at the beaches there.
After Lydia read that story she sent me a message saying that she was that woman. What happened on that beach was Arnold at 250 pounds and a Mr Universe got up and walked the 100 or so yards to the beach. Nobody took the slightest notice which surprised me. Later Lydia got up and there she was with long dark hair, small waist and a knockout curvy figure. Everyone watched her!
After we exchanged messages I invited her to post on Ironage about Zabo and the people she met such as Arnold, Betty and Joe Weider and Joe Gold and the gang. The thread I started about Zabo continued with Lydia's contributions of stories and photos for some 90 pages. It was probably the best thread ever on Ironage. Somehow that site crashed and hasn't been restored. Apparently Shawn Perine wasn't interested in keeping it. So that thread and thousands of others were lost which is a darn shame.
I did meet Doctor Michael Walzack on English Bay Beach in Vancouver in the summer of 1970. I had recently won the Mr Canada title so he approached me and we had a chat. He said I looked good and if I came to LA that under his supervision -using deca durabolin - I could probably be a Mr Universe in 6 months. That was flattering to hear but I never took up his offer. I invited him to have dinner at my place to meet my wife. I never saw him again after he declined. I emigrated to Australia in January 1971 so didn't pursue that dream of training at Golds for the Mr Universe contest. Understand that two giants appeared in the late sixties that spoiled bodybuilding for most of us. Arnold and Sergio. I mean, no matter what any of us did we were never going to be that big, etc.

Alright...I'm back home from another day of work.... :P I drove it home Monday after signing the paperwork...its an all cash purchase that I made so I can keep my insurance cost at a minimum. Cruising in this vehicle is just awesome......just freaking smooth. I have it currently at Fisher's Garage for inspection and to clear up some minor issues. It is not a perfect car but its my car and I always wanted to get a Jaguar and I only wanted a certain one in a certain color. Leather seats need to be cleaned and conditioned, needs to be detailed, AC needs some freon, headlights need to be scrubbed of oxidation, and the chrome needs to be polished but its no biggie.
This isn't going to be a daily driver and I'll likely just drive it on weekends but its going to be nice pulling up to the gym on Saturday like a boss.

I checked the car through Carfax, test drove the vehicle, checked the electronics, engine, transmission, tires, and even with all the checks I made I took it to Fisher's to be inspected......in fact, if it wasn't for all the steps I took, I would have been stuck with a flooded car. I paid using my Etrade Visa and I've filed a dispute against the transaction.
Ultimately, there wasn't much more I could have done and I certainly didn't expect the results as only a nutcase would attempt to sell a flooded car in South Carolina without disclosing it....its illegal
