Crude oil rose more than $5 to a record on concerns that Israel may be preparing to attack Iran, while a strike in Brazil and renewed militant activity in Nigeria threaten to cut supplies.
Oil rallied to a record high of $146.90 a barrel in New York after the Jerusalem Post said Israeli war planes practiced over Iraq, adding to speculation the country is preparing to attack Iran. A Brazilian union said it plans a five-day strike on platforms that pump 80 percent of the country's crude and Nigerian militants pledged to renew attacks on oil facilities.
``We are now in uncharted territory here with the Iranian situation,'' Tom James, head of commodities trading at Liquid Capital Markets Ltd., said in a phone interview ``People are just too scared to sell.''

it dropped $9 on good news that Eur was working out a deal with Iran on nukes.
then, Israel runs fake bombing drills, Iran fires missiles, and Israel does iraq landing practices (last night) and we're just about to hit $150.
if they'd just stop this dick measuring contest for 5 minutes, oil would go back to being cheap. Instead, Bush/isr are about to cut off 15% of the world's oil supply (Iran) and fvck up the straits...
-
Bush didn't order those missile drills. We moved a carrier out of the Gulf to cut tensions. The Sec Def said he didn't see an attack likely....the Iran conducted their wargames.....this is Bush's fault that Iran wants nukes?

nope. bush should have hit NKorea when they SET OFF a nuke and fired missiles at hawaii.
Bush appeased N Korea. paid them a million barrels of oil to stop.
What did Iran do? They knew they had two options, as they were part of the axis of evil. They could go one direction, and get bombed/conquered by the USA. Or they could quickly get a nuke and have their own leverage, so maybe we'd have to pay them off the way we appeased North korea.
it's bush's fault, yes. If he had bombed the shit out of N Korea the moment they acted up, there is NO WAY iran would have continued. Instead, Bush caved and gave NK their way.
Appeasement doesn't work. Now we see its results :( Bush EMBOLDENED iran by showing him that he'll pay off members of the axis of evil, rewarding them for building nukes!

I wish they'd get on with it as I just hate Iran. Sick to fucking death of them. Go Israel!
The 'fall out' will be interesting...(anybody see what I did there?)

LOL Oh come on.....the whole reason why we are going to bomb Iran has nothing to do with national security or nuclear bombs. It has to do with the fact that Iran, the 4th largest oil producer in the world, is threatening to open up its own oil bourse and encouraging other OPEC and middle eastern nations to follow suit. I.e. no more dollar hegemony. Same reason we went after Saddam Hussein. But Saddam had all those dangerous and threatening WMD's. ::)
-
Bush is such a fucking moron. Blame the democrats and their opposition to drilling for the high oil prices. Someone needs to remind this dumbass that even if we had started drilling 5 years ago it wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference. If demand is outstripping supply then tell your fucking Saudi butt buddies to release more oil. Shale oil is definitely not the answer.

It's pretty ironic that one of the reasons why we went into Iraq was to protect the petrol dollar cycle and USD hegemony; in 2000 after a decade of sanctions Saddam had had enough and decided to sell his oil for Euros...we went in; where is the dollar now?
We attack Iran it's going to be 1 Euro=1.75 dollars for sure...

I am freaking out for my parents who have all of their assets in USD. They have their savings in US treasury bonds. They are not business people, just middle class folk who have worked hard; they don't understand what is happening. I worry that the dollar will crash soon and they will be broke...after years of saving. :-\
