How come its only "special" peoples who are allowed to be proud of what they are  ???

You have gay pride, black pride, special olympian pride, Irish pride etc   and everyone applaudes them as they march along the road dressed in pink, green or whatever.

I think its nice that we patronise their people like this and it gives us a good feeling inside but how come normal white non Irish people are not allowed to have pride and go on marches etc without being accused of being Nazi's?

I am not fond of the Irish or their excrementitious island. I agree with your assessment. Very hard headed people. I don't like how they have evolved into the American political system either. Mostly crooks and cons.

You can say, but what you can't convince me is you'd feel the same if your ancestors happened to be liberia. I'm fucking proud as hell to keep this shit going, my last known ancestor to left ireland in 1798, I'm sure we'll be able to keep the tradition goin for a few more centuries.

I'm American.  My family came here a couple of generations ago to be Americans.  They learned English and dropped the other language because they came here to be Americans.  It's not that they're not proud of where they came from but where they were isn't where they wanted to be.  America is.

Immigration without assimilation is occupation.  "Irish-American" is as lame to me as "African-American".  Go to another country and I seriously doubt anyone there would claim to be "American-Irish" or "American-African".

That's nonsense, borderline PC garbage.

Assimilation is a two way street. A large part of the american identity, especially regional ones have been defined by the immigrant groups that settled them.

Being proud to be irish, isn't simply having some emotional connection to some foggy island, it's about acknowledging the role the irish have played and still do in creating north america.

Without the irish, germans, scots, Italians and blacks america would be a very different place.

I forget what General wrote this, tried to look it up but could not find it, he wrote; '' To be overly proud of ones race is to promote war as war is fought over a countries pride" then he wrote " pride should be a results of one's accomplishments not something he had no part in creating''

In fairness to the African Americans they had to work for their passage for several generations and didnt particularly intend to immigrate to America. Is it possible that hyphonated - americans were those who had a more difficult time being accepted than those similar to the existing majority. Or in the case of German / Prussian  Americans found it expedient if not necessary to drop the idinfifying connection. Few people in the "Mother" countries confuse hyphonated Americans for their own nationality - this does not mean they disregard the connection but they do put it into a different context

I agree with this.

Even then people say pride is not a good thing but fuck that....you accomplish something you had to work hard for you should be proud.

While there are differences in culture from one country to the next, Irish citizens are not a race.
