I'd stilt up for a big sqf job but haven't for a couple years since I'm in housing rather than commercial.

Mixing is easy enough in drywall. For sand and cement I'd use a laborer. Been threatening to put together a spray system for stucco for about 10 years now, lol. Most houses here are brick built and eat about 8 or 9 cubic yards of stucco, and still they all lay on by hand, with rates that reflect it. I'm sure there's money in spray application. A lot.

I just work alone unless we're throwing sheets. Use a buddy who's a handyman contractor for that. Employees are a pain in the butt and so are the labor laws in Aus. If I go into stucco and lime hardwall plastering I'll have to crew up tho.

A lot of it comes down to the fact that there are some stupid, stupid people in plastering. I'm no genius but there are some zero idea people spreading sand and cement for a living. No get up & go either, by nature and by virtue of all the substance abuse. Also, it's a low capital startup so it attracts people who are unlikely to invest in a 3000 lb screw compressor, a $5k pump, pump lines, kickass mixers, etc. I actually own it all, acquired from auctions. Got to find time to use it.

The main thing tho is that stucco is a bitch to pump. There are no bagged mixes here. It's just a big ol pile of sand outside the house. Concrete is way easier to pump since it's a strong mix with plenty of fines to carry the aggregate. Short mixes like 5-1 stucco are prone to segregate as the sand falls out of suspension at pinch points in the pump or line, but there's ways around that. Someday someday.

Get a screen to put the sand through so it runs cleaner

You might just have to experiment with the mix ratio and see what works

And you never know maybe there is new equipment out there that makes it all easy
