Title: The curse of ~flower~
Post by: Butterbean on October 05, 2007, 10:14:53 AM
So the other night I'm super-tired and I decide to use a cotton ball and some astringent instead of washing my face before bed.

After swabbing my face it really stung and the astringent smelled stronger than usual.

I looked down and had in fact used nail polish remover!  ::)

It reminded me of the time I used lotion out of a tube to brush my teeth  :-[

Please add your own "curse of ~flower~ stories here.  You can say they happened to a friend  :)

A friend of mine once stapled 2 fingers together - what a dork   ::)

This one time, at band camp, a friend used the contact stuff you use with the disc instead of saline solution when rinsing the contacts and I guess that really really hurts!!

Then this other friend runs into stuff all the time and once ran into a desk and fell onto the floor at work and her little dog left her there!

I have a lot of clumsy friends.   :P

How about your friend who broke her finger while washing her dog!

I didn't want all my friends to sound like l000sers!!  LOL!!

Did you reclean your face to get off the nail polish remover, or did you just buff it?    ;D

A friend cut their hand on a broken light bulb and then later on got a piece in their toe that they missed finding on the floor.

I know this highly skilled veterinarian powerlifter who in a stupid clutzy moment bumped into the shelf and knocked off a ceramic fish of his powerlifter/veterinary surgeon wifes, breaking it.    Because of the fear his wife bestills in his heart (he's seen her castrate horses), the veterinarian tried to glue the fish back together in the hope she wouldn't notice until he had a chance to get to the store and get a replacement.   As expected, the lid was glued on the tube of superglue and the other one was dried up.  Thinking he was smart, the veterinarian got a syringe and a needle and poked a hole in the tube and removed enough superglue to put the fish back together.  Not thinking, he sat the tube of superglue down on the counter and proceeded to repair the fish.  When he was done he realized he'd somehowe leaned up against the now open glue tube, squeezing quite a bit of glue out of it and somehow superglueing his watch to the counter.   Luckily the mark wasn't too big when he pulled the watch off the counter and he was able to clean it up pretty well with a razor blade and some elbow grease.   So when he went to remove his watch to wash his hands, he realized he'd also managed to superglue his watch to his wrist.

Its been a bad day.....    :-\

At the gym I got out of my car and slipped on a patch of ice and fell.  Hard.  My newspaper, workout papers, water bottle and keys went flying.  I laid there for awhile and no one saw or came to help ::)

I got up and went inside and told the front desk they should salt because I fell and it's a good thing I wasn't an 80 year old as my bones could have been smashed.

I went up to do some cardio and a lump started to grow on the inside of my elbow.  I got some ice and left because I thought I was going to cry ::)

Now I have a big bruise/lump on elbow, pain in my lower left back and my ears rang for awhile this afternoon.

Thanks a lot Flower >:(

Actually I called my workout partner to blame her because since she didn't go today I parked in a diff. spot than usual.  Just like I called to blame her after I backed into that car that one day!  Both Flower and her are to blame  >:(

I have this friend who has a tendency to run into things, drop things, trip over things, you get the idea. One day she decided to clean out her car, so she had her arms full of junk from the trunk (i'm a white rapper  ;)) and she was walking up the 2 steps to her front door. She realized she had no free arm with which to open the door, and therefore tried to balance everything on one arm. She successfully opened the screen door, and realized she needed her keys to unlock the front door. So she reached into her purse, got out her keys, and the moment she got the doorknob turned, all of the junk in her arms decided to go freefalling. Well she couldn't possibly let everything fall to the floor, so she made a mad grab for everything all at once. Her foot was propping open the screen door, which she then moved to try and keep from falling, but ended up doing a nose dive halfway inside and halfway outside. And to add insult to injury, and add injury to injury, the screen door closed on her arm :-/ She wasn't having a good day.

lol!

This reminds me of the time back in the day that I was dancing at a club and fell out the fire door (yes the alarm went off) and down about 2 concrete stairs and split my pants.  My feet were still inside the club and my butt was in the parking lot.  I had a long sleeved-shirt on over another shirt so I took it off and tied it around my waist and went back in and kept dancing

Last fall I was home alone because my wife had to leave the country. So one morning I was putting the trash on the front porch (to then take out when I left for work). Well Psychocat tried to run out the door so I kicked at him to keep him away from the door. Well while doing that I shut the front door which then locked. So it's about 5:40AM & about 50 degrees & I'm standing my porch in boxer shorts (no shirt no shoes nothing else). I thought I was fucked. Well after about twenty minutes of trying to find a window that was open I did & got inside. Needless to say after that there was a hide-a-key hidden.

Well, this "friend of mine" had some "tension" growing with a girl. At a kind of house party he had some "courage drinks" and a bit later he was kissing the girl on the dance floor. The girl was a bit shorter than him and the floor was wet. Add a lot of alcohol and you have an unstable situation. So 10 seconds later he kinda slipped, took a couple of steps and dove head-first against a wall. It made a rediculous sound and everybody thought he had broken his skull or something.

He was a bit confused then...  wether he should be proud for kissing a nice girl, or ashamed for "testing the wall for durability".
Or maybe he was just confused from the alcohol and the slight concussion.

Seriously one of my cats is names Psycho. Because he wasn't socialized well as a kitten so he acts very odd...hence the name Psycho.

Actually it has been way to long since flower hurt herself  >:(
Last year in quick succession she
1) Banged her leg on her desk
2) Cut her toe on glass or something at work
3) Hurt her fingers ......... again
4) Fell on her but or back doing something to some animal.

I used to enjoy it  ;D
I begged her for pictures and she did show us her bruised leg and funny fingers.
It kept the X alive and me amused. 8)

I say it is time we see some flower blood again!!!
flower blood! flower blood! flower blood! flower blood! flower blood! flower blood!
Yeah!

STella  :'(   you seem to fall a lot and your "friend" is questionable at this point ,(jk)  :D  , I always use the rule , if I ever fall down I'm not getting up , I'll scream in severe pain until people gather, no one will be permitted to touch me until an ambulance arrives , and they can only take me to the most best qualified hospital with all the latest up to date doohickeys , within around 230 miles of my fall, if I don't think the Dr. is hot I'm going to sue the property owner for about 4.2 million dollars and live happily ever after.

The curse of 2008:
January:

Mike's face explodes due to bone infection and Laura loses him during his pass out.
Rocky get's some weird infection and has to go to vets.
Laura ends up in ER with a-fib, spends 3 days in cardiac unit

February:
Laura goes for stress test, can't have it cuz in a-fib again, has to get heart procedure done in March
Laura's car tire blows out, needs 4 new tires and misc. that goes with it ($450)
Laura's car (2 weeks later) over heats, needs freeze plug, 2 hoses, 2 serpentine belts, & misc ($650)
Mike's car's breaks grinding, needs breaks and oil change ($400)

wtf is the rest of the year gonna bring?

That happened to a friend of mine in high school. Though he was actually being devious and attempting to make a homemade bomb.
He threw the match in-nothing. Again I think for a total of 3 matches, with zero result. He walked over to the coffee can containing this homemade explosive, and merely leaned his head over the can to see if it was smoldering. BAMMMMM!!!! The can exploded like the mushroom cloud of the A-Bomb. :-\
He ran around for a few minutes while the other friends panicked not knowing what to do. They eventually grabbed him, got him under control and under the bathroom sink (one of the friends' dad is the fire chief...son called him and asked him what to do).

Kid suffered horrendous burns to his face, and to this day he can't walk outside without first putting on some type of sun tan lotion/protection for his face. :(

Just think, it could always be worse. There are lots of people that are much worse off. During the rough times you have to appreciate all the good things that you have and you may take for granted. Nice avatar by the way. My aps are coming in slowly...thank God....and thanks to Ripitupbaby's killer cardio advise  :P

Worse huh?  Funny you should say that as I just got off the phone with my doctor.  Here is what he said:

1) The chest X-ray was abnormal, so I need to have a f/u one ASAP.  If it's still abnormal, I'll have to have a CT scan of with contrast.

2) There were some unusual lab abnormalities, including changes in fluids/electrolytes/nutrition, elevated proteins from the muscle (which may just be related to heavy work-outs and supplements), and mild (less than 3 times normal) elevation of liver enzymes.  He suspects that most (or even all) of these changes are self-limited in my case, and were related being in acute a.fib. and to the situation that caused the a.fib. In the first place.

3) When my rate is uncontrolled, it appears that I are developing mild congestive heart failure, which is causing most of my symptoms.  He is increasing my medication.

4) The echocardiogram shows a mild leak of the mitral valve (which is not unusual).  What is unusual for a mild leak is that it has already enlarged my left atrium (the wall of this filling chamber contains the natural pacemaker of the heart).  When this wall is enlarged, especially when someone has underlying autoimmune thyroid disease, the chance of going back into a.fib. following ablation is a little bit higher.  Thus, we may wish to continue carvedilol at low doses even after the ablation (and/or to be more aggressive with following or treating the thyroid).  Also, if the ablation fails, then I will be on lifelong anticoagulation.

Wow....thats pretty intense. Sorry to hear that.
I know this may sound silly but things WILL get better. I realise this must be extremely frustrating for you right now. Just hang in there, take your meds and listen to the doctors. Things will improve. Your true friends (and getbig friends) are by your side, Laura.

YoungBlood: about 4 years ago I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease (hypothyroidism).  I had some flutters, but they were attributed to the thyroid.  I was on thyroid medication for about 2 years and my levels became normal so they weaned me off the meds and the levels stayed.  While at the hospital they test my thyroid levels again and they are still within the normal range, so I dunno.  :(

Knny: thanks for cheering me up, tard.  :P  ;)

Well, after 3 hours at the doctors, (2 1/2 just waiting to be seen), they have decided to try something before the ablation.  They are going to "shock" my heart.  Yuppers.  They are first going to put a camera down my throat to see if I have any clots and if all looks good, they will put me under and then shock my heart.  This is all to be done on St. Patty's day.

I will be praying dweetir!  Do you know what the shocking procedure is called?

lol

This is what I am having done:

Heart Disease: Cardioversion
For many people, drugs alone will not convert an arrhythmia to a normal heart rhythm. For these people, a procedure called cardioversion or electrical cardioversion may be necessary.

Cardioversion is a treatment for heart rhythms that are irregular (arrhythmia). During cardioversion, a special machine is used to send electrical energy to the heart muscle to restore normal rhythm. The procedure restores the normal heart rate and rhythm, allowing the heart to pump more effectively.

Cardioversion can be used to treat many types of fast and/or irregular heart rhythms. Most often, it is used to treat atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. But cardioversion may also be used to treat ventricular tachycardia, another arrhythmia that can lead to a dangerous condition called ventricular fibrillation (a cause of sudden cardiac death.)

How Is Cardioversion Performed?
While your heart and blood pressure are monitored, a short-acting sedative is administered. Then an electrical shock is delivered to your chest wall through paddles or patches that stops the abnormal heartbeat and allows your heart to resume a normal rhythm.

Your doctor may want to give you blood thinners prior to and for a period after the procedure.

In some people, a moderately invasive imaging test called transesophageal echocardiogram (or TEE) may be performed prior to the cardioversion to make sure that the heart is free from blood clots. The TEE is performed by swallowing a narrow tube with a camera at its tip that can be placed against the back wall of the heart.

Internal cardioversion may be used in people whose heartbeat did not return to normal after external cardioversion. Internal cardioversion works by delivering an electrical shock through soft wires (catheters) placed in the heart.

Because the patient is sedated, the shock isn't felt. A successful cardioversion may take several electrical shocks.

What's the Difference Between Cardioversion and Defibrillation?
Cardioversion and defibrillation procedures both employ the use of a device to deliver an electrical shock to the heart.

Electrical cardioversion, however, uses much lower electricity levels to administer the shock than defibrillation. Defibrillation is often used to treat much more difficult to convert arrhythmias.

What Happens After the Procedure?
Recovery from cardioversion only takes a few hours.

After the procedure, you may also be required to take antiarrhythmia drugs to help your heart maintain its normal rhythm.

Additional cardioversion may be needed as well.

I think it's a good thing , surgery is intrusive and it carries it's own dangers , infections etc.

This seems good and I have the faith you're going to be good soon .
So this will be a great first step down the path.

Thanks for sharing , it's very generous of you  :-*

I think a daily massage , hot bubble bath , nice glass of wine , and fresh linens from now on until St.Patty's Day will improve the rate of recovery  ;D

I no like-y unions. I can give you a TON of details why, and what I'm currently going through (IRL) with unions. They are crap!!!
Once upon a time, there was a purpose and a damn good one for them. But in this day and age, no reason-especially in my company-for there to be a union. I can see if you have 20+ years invested and are about to retire etc...but for guys like me...I'm just paying your dads pension!!! >:(

Anyway, I will relax and break out the bubbly....for my bubble bath of course. :) Oh, and I'll step off the soapbox too.

I'm hoping to turn my curse around by changing my hair color again, lol.  Seems things went downhill after I went brunette.  I'm going to have some blonde put back in my hair.  :)

Red is not a good color (hair) for me.  Doesn't go with my skin color.

OK I was looking for this thread to add something (lame now it seems as I've gone through the thread which has some very serious stuff).

What a crazy year it's been for Laura and Mike (and Rockey too!).  Thank God things seem to be going well at this time.

Anyway back to the curse of Flower:

Today I had a hankering for something sweet and so I was surfing getbig and eating the middle out of a chocolate-filled cookie that you heat up in the microwave.  Then I needed to head out to run some errands.  I went to a Department store and shopped but didn't buy anything, then went to a Bed, Bath and Beyond and bought wine glasses and then went to the grocery store and bought groceries.  When I got home I of course had to go to the bathroom.  Afterward when I was washing my hands I looked in the mirror and saw that I had 3 large chocolate sauce spots dried on my chin.   LOL oh brother :-[

Thanks Flower >:(

Hahahahaha Stella it is always more embarrassing for a chick  ;D

~flower~ used to hurt herself every week.
Her finger being mangled, bashing her hip on the desk, cutting her toes at work, doing some thing or other to some body part while washing her dogs or something.
We heard stories, we saw the photos.

~flower~ either stopped hurting herself  >:(
Or she is holding out on us  >:( >:(
We need some ~flower~ blood here again   ;D

It's absolutely pouring out tonight.I had to run from my car into a friends house.while running{in flip flops}I stepped in a puddle and one flip flop fell off.
so while I was getting soaking wet from above I had to feel around with my foot in a puddle trying to find my flip flop. >:(

Good Gawd.   :o  Did you know what you were doing?

No, well not what I thought I was doing!

Ok here goes, I was 16 and very very naive to the many types of drugs and mixtures of drugs. Long story short my older brother left a joint in an ash tray, I smoked it with some friends, little did we know it was laced with PCP. We all freaked out in our own way (one saw notes of the music coming from the speakers, another thought his face was sliding off his skull, another thought he had to remember to breath and I became very thirsty and the halston looked like a bottle of juice to me.)

That was the day I vowed never to do drugs again.

Thank you Laura!  :-*   You have been through so much too and are a strong woman!!  I don't want this curse near anyone!!

Yes, a dweetir seance or some good dweetir juju so the "big curse" doesn't go visiting anyone else and leaves!

It may hang around if it behaves and just plays "life jokes" on us like having chocolate on our face in public like Stella! - lol!!   I'm surprised that happened to Stella, I would of thought she wouldn't have missed a single drop from her mouth!!  ;D

Michael was eating a bag of Smartfood Popcorn that he had left on the floor beside the bed.  As he was diving in and eating away he felt burning sensations on his hands (he thought maybe the cheese was getting into a cut or something) and mouth (thought it was the cheese getting into the cut on his tongue as he bit it the night before).  So he gets up and goes into the bathroom and calls me in saying look at my hands they are turning red/purple.  And tells me what he was doing prior.  He looks into the bag and guess what?  About a 100 fire-ants were in there!!!   :o  He emptied the bag into the toilet and there were just so many!!!  Some fell on the outside, some were trying to crawl out.  I flushed the toilet a couple times and started spraying Tilex on the ones that got out, lol.

Poor Mike, was so sick the rest of the day.  I had to fill him up with Benedryl.  :(

Went to vacuum up insulation that fell down from the holes in the ceiling and pulled the cord on my vacuum cleaner which caused the plug to flip up and hit me in the upper eyelid/brow bone area and cut me like a boxer cut and is beginning to bruise.  Have an icepack on it now as I have a "function" tonight.

Well I did slice a chunk out of my pinkie on a wire basket 2 weeks ago.

And this morning I got 2 fingers stuck in the plastic holes that the 24oz Pepsi bottles come in and the tabbie things were stuck and hurt and I was afraid to pull because it hurt!  I had marks on my fingers for awhile.  I'm suing Pepsi for pain and suffering and no warning label!!!   >:(

And I ALWAYS have a bruise on at least one arm and one leg at all times ( & some in some really strange places that I don't see how I could have got them  ???)

The strangest looking bruise I ever had was on my butt from two heavy suitcases taking me down the up escalator at the  Detroit airport.  It was about a 5X6 mark from the teeth of the edge of one of the stairs.  Sounds like a funny incident, but it really wasn't.  My hair came really close to getting pulled in.

At the moment, I was more embarrassed than anything, but after thinking about it, it could've been really bad.  I'm sure there was some sort of surveillance tape showing the entire incident.  I'm surprised no one from airport public relations rushed to my aid if for nothing else than to make sure I wasn't going to sue or something.

Slicing a lemon and of the millions of times I have dropped a knife this time it hits my big toe blade down and slices it.   :P    That sucker bled all over like instantly, in my flip flop and on the floor!   I wrapped it in a paper towel and ate my sammich.  Then I looked at it and called my mom to find out where the urgent care facility was cause I thought it would be faster and cheaper than going to emergency room.  I decided to just bandage it up and the hell with it.

Sorry p-pack, no pics, still haven't replaced my digi camera, but you can see the seration marks from the knife (it was a steak knife).  Maybe I will tell people the scar is from a piranaha!    :o

Good thing I don't have any sharp knives otherwise I'd have no fingers and probably be missing a toe or two.

So how do you cut anything?  I have sliced through a fingernail with a knife in the past, and I drop them all the time so I am usually pretty good at doing a jig and it will miss, this time it didn't work obviously.   ::)

Everybody gets paid in bourbon nowadays, right?

Rocky likes when you pretend to be a monster and chase him saying "rahhhhhh", lol.  He runs and jumps on the sofa and then talks to you, lol.  Mike was doing that and chasing him around the coffee table (Rocky makes you run around the table after him) and the treadmill is beside the sofa & table so when Mike ran by it, he ran a little wide and clipped his pinky toe on it.   :-X

We spent 3 hours at the doctors.  They said he broke and twisted the bone and ripped the tendons around it and is going to need surgery to fix because if he doesn't it will heal incorrectly and sticking out.  He won't be able to put shoes on or wear them comfortably.  He has to have a steel rod or something put in it.  Ouch.  He's been up all night in pain.   :'(

not yet but after seeing the xrays and talking to the doctor t seems right on.  He is an Emory spine and ortho surgeon.  I like the fact he didn't suggest cutting me open first.  I've dealt witht his and gotten all types of diagnosis and knew they were all wrong.  Now I know.  Life sucks.

I don't know what's worse; you being in that thing and me being able to laugh at the pic that you actually posted (laughing at yourself is always a good thing, I think!), or that you actually are in that thing because of your pinky toe!!! "Big bad BBer hurt his wittle toey? Awwww give him a cart to make sure he's comfy!"

Didn't Ronnie Coleman drop a 200lb DB on his toe during his 99-00 O prep and broke it? I remember the article but not exactly. He said the most they could/would do is just tape the toe up.

The curse was in full swing last night!!   >:(

So... I got gas and I also filled up my 1gal so I would have it ready for the snowblower. I, in my infinate wisdom, thought it would be fine sitting in the front passenger seat.  Wrong!!  I think I overfilled it and the nozzle had lost the cap years ago so I believe some gas came out of the nozzle, onto my coat sleeve, into my seat, and my purse was on the seat so that got gassed too!  I noticed my sleeve was soaked, smelled it, and thought "stuff me in a beer bottle, light it and I'm a Molotov cocktail!!"  My seat was soaked, I had to role the windows down so I wouldn't fumigate myself.   When I got home I soaked the seat and left the windows down in the garage to try and get the smell out.   ::)     I took off my coat and threw it in the wash, then dumped everything out of my purse to try and save that.  Well, almost everything out, I left my cell phone in the pocket so that got submerged.  As of this morning it will turn on, the screen is blank but it will ring and I can answer it!  I think it is toast and I will have to get a new one.  (Stella, yours was the last text I sent on it, while waiting in line for gas, so if you texted back I never got it)  So, let's see, I have a seat/car that smells like gas, a purse that smells like gas, and a cell phone that I should just pull the plug on.  I rode to work with the windows down and snow blowing in. I think I will douse the seat again and take the shop vac to it and try and suck the water/gas out of it.

Oh yea, and short hair!   >:(   go me!!   >:(

Since my cell was the only thing I could take pics with, no pics will be forthcoming.   >:(

I haven't checked my phone since I texted you so I haven't seen any you may have sent back yet....I was going to blame the first one on Migs if you seemed mad at me  :P

You may have to steam clean your car in that area several times.

I was thinking I would soap it up again and then use the shop vac and keep repeating?  My brother told me when he gets his gas can filled up he takes his recycling bin and lines it with newspaper and puts it in there just in case.

Next time you are on your roof you should do that thing with the hooks you wanted to do in case you fall.

Dayam!  That really stinks (no pun intended  ;D)  Makes my day yesterday seem uneventful  ::)  Snowblower BROKE (not worth fixing I've been told) on the 2nd pass down the 300 ft driveway  >:(  The good news is, we get a new one with hand warmers!  :D  I hate shopping under pressure.

Sometimes if you take the battery off and put the phone and battery in a bag of rice, that can salvage a wet device.

I had two other people tell me about the rice.  Probably too late now?  I have take the battery, cover, and sim card out.     Princess I fear every year that mine blower is going to go and do it at the bottom of the driveway!

I just went outside and shoveled out the INSIDE of my car.   ::)   We are getting pummeled with blowing snow and I had left my 2 front windows down a bit because of the gas and it just hit me that the snow was probably blowing into my car!  Now I have 2 wet seats and it still smells like gas!   :P

Did you not read the gas can and see where it says "do not fill above this line?"

Sucks, but yes even after I've read that myself, I have done the same thing minus the huge aftermath you had.

Transporting gas is always tricky. Even in a contained unit as the gas trucks they come in (liquid in general is hard to transport), it can be dangerous. Not as in exploding, but that is always a possibility, but as in how do you get it from point A to point B? Or where do you store it, trunk, seat, do I hold it? What happens when you go around a turn?

Gas sloshes around, and when you go through a turn, it moves with the inertia of the car and can spill at that point.

I will use one of my bigger gas cans next time and only fill it 1/2 way, and leave it in the back in a recyling bin or something just in case.

Or I will just ask you to bring it over!   ;)

good episode!!!

It seems like once you get the smell of gas in your head you can't stop smelling it.  Even after I showered I still smelled like it. Even IN the shower I smelled it!  I put shampoo up my nose to get rid of it!

I now have rice all over the floor, but my cell is in a bag of rice seeing if that will help. And I am NOT vacumming it up tonight.  >:(   I can dial out and recieve calls now, the screen is blank so it might take me a few tries to get the right number. Only took 4 tries to get through to my home number.  :P

Stells, did you text me back?  'Cause when I turned the phone on it did the beepy thing that means I either have a text or vm and since I can't see the screen I don't know which!

Maybe I could donate my cell phone to the blind since the screen not working wouldn't matter?     (kidding!! but you know you laughed!!!  ;D)
