Title: Anyone get stuck with a 3D TV?
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on December 01, 2014, 08:00:52 AM
Remember after Avatar came out that 3D was the way of the future.  Even Lucas decided to convert all Star Wars movies to 3D, they came out with the first and then stopped dead cold.  Now movies don't even bother other than some animated films but these animated films take years to make so they may have started when the hype of 3D was still alive.  Everywhere I read said to wait to buy a 3D TV yet people bought these things up.

Who got stuck with one?  I beleive they'd only be good to watch the Olympia or quality tranny porn.

I have one.  I went to buy a new TV last year and it was basically impossible to find anything above a certain size (no homo) that wasn't 3D.

It came with some 3D glasses that I've never used.

still like the 3D movies , they are still being made, the most recent one i have is the Hercules 3D movie with The Rock

its really no loss for me , besides the $100 for 4 glasses i invested in , the projector still works awesome viewing 2d content

When I bought a new tv this year I sought after a none 3d model, didn't want to pay for gimmick shit I wouldn't use, didn't want the smart function either but finding a TV without it was impossible

I was at a friend's house and he had some 3D cartoons and I was curious what they look like on the TV.  The only good part was before the movie started when they list all the producers and stuff.  They all had cool 3D popping out of the screen type things but the movie itself barley had any.  pretty lame

3D is pretty much dead, even last Olympics wasn't broadcasted in 3D and that says much, since it's that kind of event where broadcasters traditionally use and test most of state-of-the-art equipment.
Two biggest problems with 3D are: necessity to wear stupid glasses and low level of brightness, it's congenital deformity that can't be fixed.
Yeah, there is no TVs without 3D on the market nowadays, but people completely lost all interest few years ago. Even at the cinema 3D sucks, moviemakers don't want to spend extra buck on filming it, so usually we get a few minutes of real 3d scenes (including CG opening credits where something explodes or flies in your face), while everything else is the same as 2D, but with glasses and low brightness.

Rumour has it that the next big thing could be higher frame rates technology or 4K (ultra HD).
I've seen 4K and it fucking rules, but it'll be years till we get reasonable volume of content.

It took regular cable over a decade to broadcast normal HD content from 720-1080i  I bet they won't even bother with 4K.

Never fell for the hype and was never interested in 3D anyway.  I am looking at TVs now and 3D seems to be included as an afterthought on several models.  None of them tout it as a significant feature.  The latest thing us Ultra High Definition or 4K.  It looks great in the stores but even the sales people will admit that there is virtually no 4K content available right now and there won't be for the next 3-4 years.  So, they want to sell you a TV with a very expensive feature that you won't be able to use until 3-4 years from now?  Sounds familiar.  ::)

I beleive Sony was the first to come out with 4K.  look at Sony's track record over the past trying to get stuff mainstream.  Enough to make you know it will be another flop.

Yeah, purchase a 3d tv, Have a nice day, go fuck yourself!

Did you really think u was going to use it? 3 times maximum! 2 glasses, having 3 friends over your house, sorry we dont have any glesses for u! Go home!

The thing with 3D movies are that the quality is just suck! Its more flat than ordinary tv. Its like having 3 flat layers...look like shit!

I have a Panasonic plasma TV with 3D. I have used the 3D many times, and it looks great. In addition to movies, some PS3 games can be played in 3D. The cost of glasses has fallen quite a bit, so that isn't really an issue.

TV companies need to sell you something new or else they couldn't keep marking the new things up.
3d is extremely useless.  It's only as good as the media provided.  Not to mention, 3d is gimmicky.  They tried it with Jaws in the 70s, then rehashed it today with Avatar, etc.
In a huge theater, 3d is decent and has some impact...on a 70" in your living room...not so much.
Now they have the curved tv...utterly useless again.  16:9 ratio tv's made sense, as most movies are shot this way or even 2.35:1.

4k is great, but not really utilized on smaller sets.  Also, how much media is out for it.  I was just telling this Bestbuy joker the other day how useless it is for a few years.

OLED, better looking by a little, but the huge jump in price is clearly not worth it.

ULTRA thin, more marketing bs.  How thin do you need a tv in reality?  The wall mount will likely prevent you from making it fit very tight or even better, component to your system beneath..if that's your set up.

HD and flat panel were the only 2 advanced worth mentioning in a little more than a decade.  The others, just circle jerking.

3D TV is like being a genuine bisexual.
Oh sure it sounds like a great idea, but for most of us, isn't practical. ALL Homo ;D

Wish 3D porn had more content but then again I guess the only 3d effect would be cum shots and I don't want to see those come out flying to my face out of the TV unless it was tranny porn, no homo.

3D is and always was a gimmick, and IMO doesn't look great.    But I don't mind having the option to watch the gimmick once in a while.

I would say this years samsungs are better than Sony. If your streaming a true 4k feed with the right cables and bandwith it's just awesome. People don't need 3d everybody wants a higher resolution

Funny... I wrote a paper in one of my PhD classes on the development of glasses free 3D TV's and the problems of the current 3D TVs in the market today.  I even discussed how it was Avatar that ignited the interest in this technology.

I bought a big screen LED TV earlier this year and specifically avoided getting one that was 3D (which was fucking hard to find as  a 55" Samsung ) because I'm not a fan of the technology as is implemented today.

You didn't have to avoid getting a TV that can reproduce 3D content. The TV will perform the same in 2D regardless.

I didn't want to pay extra to have 3D capabilities that I would not use.

Lamer than starting your own forum.

Sony OLED 4k plz... Next year should be good for TVs, finally might get something worth replacing the plasma with.
