Title: New Jeff Jarrett promotion?
Post by: Montague on January 07, 2014, 09:18:47 AM
Has anyone heard the rumors that Jarrett may be starting a new promotion? Online sources are reporting that he's got financial backing from Toby Keith, and has tossed out teasers to industry people.

I did hear that on a podcast co-hosted by by the wrestler Konnan. They said the investor was a "wealthy musician." If I remember correctly Keith was on a few TNA shows.

Back when Jake was rumored to be purchasing TNA, the same "wealthy musician financier" was mentioned. A lot of people suspected Billy Corrigan, but his involvement was quashed. If Keith wants to get involved, he'll definitely need the services of someone who knows the business.

Ol' slap nuts seems to like running these promotions.. What was his past role with TNA? I was a mark when he was in wcw

I'll give Jarrett credit. At least he's involved in the business end as opposed to so many wrestlers who stay in the ring way past their sell by date.

The Indy circuit is almost a curse for over the hill wrestlers as they can eke out a living Randy the Ram style. This differs from, say, football, where, when it's over, it's over. You have no choice but to move on.

With regard to this new promotion, Keith apparently has a relationship with CMT (Country music television). So, that's where the tv exposure might be.

I'm not sure of the exact chronology, but I believe Jeff and his dad Jerry owned an NWA "territory" down south around the early 2000's. It was branded TNA as in Total Nonstop Action, although the double-entendre of tits & ass was clear.

New Jack told us a few stories about Jeff's old man since Jack was doing some work down there after ECW sold. Jack didn't stay there because he's stubborn and Jerry didn't like his style of working.

At some point, Dixie Carter came in and bought ownership in the company with financial backing from her wealthy parents. My knowledge becomes even less detailed at this point because I had by then lost touch with the few industry guys I knew. I understand that Jeff stayed on in some type of office role in addition to being on-air talent, but I don't know what kind of authority he'd had by then, and I don't know if his Dad was still involved in operations or not.

Dixie came in and seemed to try copying past formulas that other promotions had successfully used for a time. She tried emulating first WCW, then ECW. I think her logic was that she could maybe do what they did right, but avoid the mistakes that lead to their demise. I don't blame her, as the idea sounds logical, and I probably would have done similar. So far, though, it hasn't worked out for her in the long term.

I would watch it to at least check it out! There's a segment of fans who miss the older product(s). If Jeff & co. can appeal to that demographic, then he'll have a winning formula.

In another follow-up to the expected Jeff Jarrett announcement, F4WOnline is reporting that he might be holding off until a few things are finalized. It's believed that Jarrett will be announcing some sort of new wrestling promotion, plus a potential partnership with country music star Toby Keith.

Former TNA wrestler Homicide recently posted on Facebook that he was aware of the Jarrett/Keith plans weeks ago, which, if true, would imply that this has been in the working before Jarrett resigned from TNA.

Yeah, I'd check it out, as well.

Here's a prediction (Not exactly a bold one): The first TNA guy they sign: James Storm

I'd love to see a talent exchange with ROH. Some of the guys I trained with years ago aspired to go to ROH over WWF! That's the mark of someone who truly loves the business, IMO.

I recently heard Bob Holly on a podcast. He said the best part of being retired is that the WWE doesn't control his life. I'd bet a lot of wrestlers feel the same way. You don't get that money from the WWE for nothing. They pretty much own you.

Glad you like it. Unfortunately, most of my knowledge entails the eras prior to c. 2003. That's about when I lost most of my interest in the current industry, and also when I withdrew my brief personal involvement.

IMO, 2009-2011 were some of the best discussions we had on this board, and most of them revolved around the early 80's to the Attitude Era. For me, that was the most interesting time in wrestling. You can find links to a few of those threads here: http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=375670.0

Would like to see JJ and Keith get a deal with CMT.  Create a throwback as you guys said.  I havent followed any of it since 2002.  Just no interest.  I like ROH when I can catch it.  I think Steen has huge potential.

Jarrett goes back to WWE, grown his hair long, becomes "Double J" again, and sings with Florida Georgia Line.

Of all the talent to lose...

I'm also refraining from making a joke about southerners having a "slow tongue."

Yes I have. I'm sure it will fail.
