Title: Jay Silva...
Post by: lax on December 24, 2009, 08:24:50 AM
He was a good east coast bb from the 70's.....ended up getting his head cut off (so was the word, anyway) from drug dealers he owed.

Any pics of him, Funk?

I know he was in the Jubinville show at mountain park in Pumping Iron.

I believe Frank Wainright was killed while either at a car wash or gas station...he had an argument with some fellows...and was shot.....I may be off a bit on the details

i could never understand why a guy like reis would come all the way from milwaukee to compete in a regional show in allentown pa. i wonder how he got that trophy on the plane thing must have been like 7 ft high.

I remember Mike Katz would bring guys in from all over for the annual northeastern america show...would make the show more competitive and fun to watch...of course, this was the 70's and a wee bit of the early 80's we are talking about.

When Zane won his Mr. World title in belgium, he said the trophy weight 250 lbs!

He took only the tiny, top part with him.

I have an old MTI Lurie mag with Lurie standing behind townes with Townes doing a FDB shot...amazing lat/shoulder/waist ratio...kinda like Pearson.

Jay was a training partner of Robby Robinson. I remember an old MuscleBuilder article with Jay, Robby and some lady as training partners.

The first time I saw Jay Silva was at the Mr. Mass. contest aty Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

It was his first contest and his posing was hilarious....he had on some tight beads and when he hit a crabshot they popped and rolled all over the stage.  :)

He would hit a double biceps, then jump up in the air and spin around and hit a double biceps backshot!!

Needless to say,he got much better over time as he was a cousin of Manuel Perrys and Manny trained with master poser Len Archambault who helped Jay out.

I don`t think his head was cut off............I heard he got shot but I could be wrong.

I miss Ed Jubinvilles shows.......simpler and much better days for bodybuilding.

I`ve done over 60 contests...how many have you won or done?

The contest I`m speaking of was Jays first contest, and he was very impressive, and very inexperienced.

He had on a tight choker of beads around his neck, and when he hit a most muscular pose his traps caused the beads to break and roll all over the stage.

I was there,why would I lie?

I`m not putting him down,he was a great up and coming bodybuilder and an inspiration to me...just saying what I saw on that day in Worcester.

You act as though I am defaming his charachter or something.

I respect you too, though I don`t know you at all,but chill out bud......no reason for me to make things up......i`ve been around a lot of years in this game.

All the best to you.
