I do. I'm not tripping at all. We already have the Orange County Mayor, trying to jack up taxes in Orlando, Winter Park, Ocoee, etc.
And our schools, gyms, and businesses would have had shut down even longer in 2020, had DeSantis not reigned him into place.
Heck, I'm more disappointed that the Olympia isn't in Orlando anymore than I am about Disney. Until a month ago (when my wife got tickets for my son to go to Animal Kingdom), the last time I went Disney was when my almost-college-aged daughter was in diapers.

Disney pays property taxes… to themselves.
Disney funds just 2 small fire stations that could not handle a moderate fire in any of their resort buildings.
Zero schools funded.
Zero permits to build.
Zero building inspections.
Zero zoning laws.
Zero impact fees.
Zero funding for dumping their waste water into the waterways.
Zero ride safety inspections.
Orange County provides schools, fire service, police, EMS ect for free
If they were merged into Orange County they would pay over a billion per year in property taxes alone.

And they’re coming mainly from NY. That said, I doubt it too many young people are moving down there. It’s primarily old wealthy people looking to escape the high tax rates, and retired government workers whose pension dollars go farther in Florida.

Yes Griffin is a powerhouse and very conservative. He fled Chicago for Miami recently and dished the hell out of crime and Lori Lightfoot on his way out the door. But his bread is buttered by the talent he is able to keep within his firm. I bet any money there are way more of his employees who are siding with Bob Iger on this one than with Ron DeSantis, let alone the excitement quotient of, “look we all just moved to Florida and I am rewarding everybody with a huge event at Disney.” Also, for all the “errors” you may argue Disney may have made, it is a deep American brand that has been around for 100 years. Ron DeSantis is a flash in the pan who may rise or may fade quickly, hard to tell.

It seems very likely that many employees have had very mixed feelings about being uprooted from the pleasant White Bread suburbs of Chicago to basically be asked to move to Latin America (Miami). The Disney celebration may be a way to put more shine on Florida for wives and kids during a somewhat tough transition.

That all makes sense. I agree few staff would leave. Look up successful hedge fund in the dictionary and Citadel will crop up. I don’t know what percentage of total staff were based in the Chicago headquarters. All I am saying (knowing both cities well) is that I guarantee you that there are/were wives and children way more comfortable in suburban Chicago than in Miami. How big a factor that has been, who knows. But family affects morale. And proximity to Disney could be a morale booster.

I always opposed DeSantis’ arrest the school teacher/arrest the School Board law, but this article does not really clarify whether Disney got its way in the end or whether DeSantis got his way. The flavor just seems to be that they kissed and made up.

Trump is stopping him on my behalf. I think his time will have come and gone. Disney will have ups and downs but likely around for another 100 years.

You know those numbers are fake, when they lost a ton of money last year and their stock price stayed the same. The reality is Disney is completely fucked, they owe a pile on the comcast deal, and they have exhausted the value of all their legacy brands.
Even among the woke, Disney is no longer cool.
Their only hope at this point is inflation making them look better than they are. It's pretty obvious blackrock or whoever is artificially inflating the value of the stock.
