For quite some time, this honorable warrior has sat here patiently waiting, never complaining or asking, for his blue stars.
Just the other day, I noticed that he made some posts and under his name there were yellow stars.
What was once yellow has now turned blue, as our friend and loyal member Hazbin is now part of our official competitors group.
Congratulations to one of the best members we have and a true bodybuilder that is worthy of his blue stars and, in my opinion, his IFBB Pro card.

There are a number of ways to get Blue Stars.
Mainly, you can:
(1) Meet Ron at a local NPC event where you are part of the competitor's list
(2) Show proof of your participation in an NPC/NABBA event by way of providing a roster with your name and then showing us proof of your identity.
(3) Showing us pictures of you on stage and then correlating your identity by sending us a separate picture of yourself holding up a sign with your name.

ya, forearms were abit ahead when I was a kid. I raced motocross as well as trained them hard with weights. it got to the point later that I started using wrist wraps on all back workouts to keep them from growing.

trained them super intense and steady till I realised they were overtaking my biceps. then cut back, they were close to 19 inches at one point.

Hazbin had a great physique with no weak points. How he failed to win the Canada is a mystery. Lots of good guys there. It is hard to win a big provincial title nowadays.

You can call me old, because I am. When I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror I say to myself, who is this old fart looking back at you and when did this happen? Well, it happened because I have lived a long time and honestly hope I live a bit longer....yikes! To answer your question, I cannot imagine going on about getting blue stars on Getbig. To be fair though, I have never been a competitive bodybuilder so what do I know about these things. Vince and I are the same age. Despite his comments claiming otherwise, he seems committed to getting his blue stars. I cannot pretend to know why this is.

nope. that year I dropped down to low 220's and looked like shit. all these experts would tell me if I drop the ice cream and did their diet I would be Munzer shredded. all that would happen is I would lose/deflate pure muscle.

Well, if you tried and tried and just couldnt sort it out, then you hold your head high and be proud of what you accomplished I guess.
I was curious if you had any ideas of what youd have done differently coming into the contest to try and maintain that condition... do you have an idea of what part of your prep is was that needed to be changed? Any idea which components of the prep sabotaged you? (I.e. carb deplete/load, dropping sodium/loading, changing compounds/foods out to early/late)?
I guess in curious as to what you think it was that needed to change to get you looking 'right' on stage?

Unbelieveable what the Flotsam come up with. If I said it was 2 tablets that is what it was. I gained some size in the first month and my bench went up. I bullked up to 210 then dieted down to 190. I still wasn't ripped.
I have never injected any drug, period. I hate needles! We were too ashamed to go to a doctor for gear.

I paid my dues the hard way. I deadlifted 525 pounds at UBC without any drugs at all.

I was also doing uni two nights a week. Not much time or interest in training.

Unbelieveable what the Flotsam come up with. If I said it was 2 tablets that is what it was. I gained some size in the first month and my bench went up. I bullked up to 210 then dieted down to 190. I still wasn't ripped.
I have never injected any drug, period. I hate needles! We were too ashamed to go to a doctor for gear.

We've had this conversation before, I know, but I just want to remind folks here that while it may have been taboo to ask a doctor for steroids in the 60's in Canada, this was not the case in the U.S. At least not in Southern California. In 1959 our family doctor put me on 5 mg of Diannabol and a weekly test shot because I was incredibly skinny and probably had hypogonadism. I repeated this cycle in 1963 and in again in 1973. Incidentally much of what I gained was permanent, which is to say I was never 126 lbs. at almost 6 ft. tall. again.

How disappointing to have such a great build and not be the national champion. Big arms, calves, forearms, good width, taper, great legs, abs...nothing missing!
You said you listened to various bodybuilders re contest preparation but always came in not looking your best.
We heard about Samir Bannout having the same problem. I guess the quest for 'conditioning' has changed bodybuilding and probably not for the best.
Dennis James had the same problem and never looked as good as he did a few weeks out. We listen to broscience at our peril.

I can relate and my worse issue is c6 pressing on my radial nerve. Feels like my arm and hand is broken when it inflamed!

Lifting heavy weights will do that. When you keep trying really hard to win a big show you tend to go to extremes. Happened to Ronnie Coleman, Jay, Dorian.
We all believed that lifting heavier would result in bigger muscles. We forgot that powerlifters weren't the biggest guys out there. Well, except for the super heavyweight class.
I also tore a biceps trying to set a gym record. Arthur Jones told us to build muscle, not demonstrate strength. He was right but we all thought those warnings were unnecessary.

What is this quality of muscle you are talking about? From what I have seen the big guys today are stronger than the old school guys.
Hypertrophy is triggered by heavy resistance up to a point. It is far more important to do volume. The set after set after set with a reasonably heavy resistance is what does it.

Not true, and are their chests bigger today? Nope. Chests were thicker back then and its no coincidence the guys who trained heavy bench and flies had the biggest ribcages/chests. Mind you they achieved this by doing very heavy volumized low rep compounds.

For some reason, known only to laymen, muscles tear using really heavy weights. Ask Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates. Smart bodybuilders avoid those heavy weights and do more reps with lesser poundages.

Genetics are key. I am not sure it is so much the actual poundage that causes muscle tears as pushing them too far. On the other hand I know folks who have fucked up their delts with uncontrolled lifting technics. So I suspect that as long as one can keep the movement strict, how much weight they move is secondary to injuries.
