This has got to be Audition? Somehow the main character lost his wife and was auditioning women for a fake role in a fake production. The movie was slow moving with a lot of setup and most of the payoff was near the end and was disturbing.

can i recommend this very excellent film review channel (cinefiles) on youtube. they're the best on there by far.

When I found them about a year ago I watched practically every video they put out.... but haven't caught them recently. They're worth watching.

This one was funny. The moderator guy on left likes Dario Argento but particularly the guy on the right keeps trashing him relentlessly. I like Argento. EDIT: Crap this is outtakes, I think there was another episode that was more involved.

This guy, Rob Ager, does original takes on hidden meanings, psychology, etc in movies . You're probably familiar with some of his videos.

He;s done lengthy original reports on Alien, Pulp Fiction, 2001, Clockwork Orange, a lot of Kubrick....

Here he talks about the monolith in 2001, he comes up with original well reasoned views on things whether he's right or wrong:
