Japanese birth rates are lowering/leveling off which is not an uncommon phenomenon in first world countries where the standard of living and access to education is high and there is greater gender equality. The rules in Japan on immigration and foreign workers is much stricter than in the United States. Recently, in relation to the past, there has been more importation of foreign labor in Japan, mostly Koreans, Chinese, Indians and South East Asians. Even some Nigerians... There is also a long established Indian population in Japan as well.
I have a lot of respect for the Japanese and their culture and hope they continue to keep tight control on immigration so that they retain their unique identity.
