Cormier really is a sad [if perhaps not finally tragic] story.
I mean, all of us here who aren't Olympia caliber bodybuilders [and you know who you are
], will enter old age knowing that, in the end, we - like Chris - never committed to our most important thing (whatever it was) absolutely 100%. We weren't gamblers enough at heart to truly bet it all.
The difference is that what we cheated ourselves out of the possibility of was relatively modest. A profitable business, maybe. At most, a large loving family.
What Chris cheated himself out of the possibility of was being
the acknowledged world champion in his field. [No need to strike the "it's not a sport!" nerve just now.]
That, as Jerry Seinfeld would say, is one giant matzoh ball.
