depends what you find more exciting?

i.e. nz is better for fishing, seeing people less fortunate, skiing etc. aus will give you interesting wildlife, beaches, good weather

In what ways do you think the countries differ from each other?

NZ has awesome scenery, really beautiful country and friendly people, and great if you love rugby...but other than that its not a place where you want to live. Everything feels small town, and most kids either want to become rugby stars or failing that, move to australia.
Australia is a far better country if you want to spend more than a holiday there. Cities are big, sports are all well catered for, good gyms everywhere. Weather tends to be warmer...the only thing is the fucking bugs...millions of em everywhere!!

For me Australia is more exciting, cause New Zealand basically looks the same like Austria for the most part. ;D

Both seem rather isolated from the world...

I wouldn't want to be in either for too long.

36 hour flights mate, that is insane. Longest for me was 15 hours.

I think both places look great and clean, very beautiful but they remind of the states too much.

No flight is that long. Sydney to Paris is 13 hours. Sydney to London is the longest flight, and that can be done in under 24 hours.

Like i said, sure it is longer, but to make that your sole reason against living here is kinda stupid.....

Actually there is an even bigger, more practical argument against living in Oz; you guys have some of the toughest immigration laws in existence. It would be almost impossible to get work there unless you REALLY had something to offer.

There are 'hot' jobs that they want.

I love London and the proximity and cheap flights to so many other fab cities, however, I would immigrate to NZ or Aus in a heartbeat.

Melbourne is an amazing city, phenomenal vibe.

I think once you have residency in one country, you can live and work in the other.

I think that both countries have a much more relaxed yet high standard of living and are highly condusive to artistic and academic pursuits.

I can't stand London, not even a huge fan of the UK. I can't say for sure but I don't think I could permanently more to either. I would miss the architecture, art and history that infuses the European landscape too much.

If you are interested in learning languages they are not very condusive, which I see as a problem for myself. For a year or so a place like Melbourne might be interesting though...if only to have said I have lived in Oceana.

Ex-convicts and criminals...

Just like to point out that whilst this may be true, the majority of the "convicts" were convicted of very pety crimes. The average convict wasn't a mass murderer or a serial rapist, more likely a man who stole a loaf of bread.....

Sydney: Great place to visit. Shit place to live.

Melbourne: Shit place to visit. Great place to live.

Rest of Australia falls in between. QLD is like Florida. Perth/Fremantle and Hobart is nice and scenic. Adelaide is a hole.

NEVER, EVER go to Canberra. That place is a hole.

New Zealand, either island(s).  Kind of reminded me of where I grew up, friendly people and smaller town attitude. Surfing not quite as good but it does have it's spots. Kind of like SOCal, surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon.

For extreme fornication, Aussie land. Girls gone wild by all means there.  A lot of those "convicts" that mother England brought over early were from debtor style prisons. Nothing hard core and also a lot the unforgiven poor. Lot's of Irish dumped over there. How England solved part of the Irish problem, other than starving them out. Glad to see England paying for her sin's now with the unoffical invasion on foreign nationals.

Webke is the man to talk about that. Sydney is more tourist friendly, but Melbourne has a better vibe and stronger nightlife. Place is turning into shit now though. You've just got to know where to settle.

I'm considering moving to Canberra for a line of work. Don't want to go. May as well be in hell...a cold, lifeless hell.

I went to Australia before. Its a great place. They have a great sports institute that I trained at for a while. Excellent equipment and facitities and really nice people. We also went to the gold coast for a holiday after that. Nice beaches, hot chicks, some fun clubs. I would love to visit New Zealand some time and heard the people are very welcoming there.

One of my friends got harassed by a drunken local darkskin person though (native race called Aboriginals that were there before white people came there) within around 30 minutes after we arrived, but nothing too serious.

lol, gotta watch out for the abos.

Not really though, depends on where you go, but for the most part, the abos are out in the country.

Was the sports institute the one in Canberra (Australian Institute of Sport)?

I guess that is one of the positives of NZ being a completely irrevelent/ignored country, no one is really going to hassle you. Enjoy them Maoris, son.

Howard had his head up Bush's ass the entire time he was in office, but Obama aint gonna want a piece of that pansy Rudd. Now that Iraq is over what does America need you for?

Enjoy learning to speak ching chong.

I think there is consensus that Oz is more exciting. Even Kiwiol says that.

That would explain why every 2nd kiwi moves to Aus.......

Kiwiol is on medication, he has no idea what he's saying.

NZ women has the highest number of sexual partners in their lifetime out of any nation in the entire world. That is a fact my friend. NZ for the win  8)

China is the new "super power" in the making and Rudd knows it. We will always defend/support America, but we are getting closer to the Asians. And we get on relatively well with them.

And don't forget, you are our bitch, so if we go down.......you are coming with us.

Nothing to it that I haven't mentioned before, Deicide. Australia is better in most ways - bigger and better economy, more opportunities, higher pay, higher standard of living, more cities / places to choose from (to live in), hotter climate (which is a plus if you like it sunny), greater buying capacity for the dollar etc. NZ is a very nice place, but only if you have money to spend.

If you want to move to either of these places to try and make a living, it's not even close - Australia beats NZ by a country mile.

Good for you mate. Hope it all goes well for you. And to be honest, I don't think you'd like NZ if you came to live here - it's a great place to visit and also to live if you are well off, but if you are working and trying to earn coin, this isn't a good place to be. The economy isn't very strong and anything that happens, happens in Auckland, which is the only place to be.

I myself didn't like it here much in the beginning, when I shifted from Brisbane (Australia), cause Australia is very beautiful and is huge, with a much stronger environment and all that. But I love it here now, cause I got made here in more ways than one.

Where are you going to go next? Have you picked out a country?

I can believe this.  How your country isn't overpopulated is a mystery.

Kiwiol is an unpatriotic fuck. He no longer deserves "kiwi" in his name. He should change it to "Pieceofshitol"

The fact that he says Auckland is the best place in nz is a bit of a give away of his crazyness. Auckland is a shithole. I've had a few of my mates move there for work and they hate the place. Pretty much everywhere else in nz is perfect except for Auckland.

That makes no sense. Aukland is the only decent sized city in all NZ as far as I know...

Size Isn't everything  ;)

Auckland is one big giant mess. Its far too spread out. The transport system is pathetic. The night life is boring. It has nothing going for it.

Melbourne is pretty good. If you were unfortunate enough to be forced to live in Australia, then Melbourne would be bareable.

That's alright. I guess Melbourne has more of a "euro" feel to it than compared to Sydney.

Webke speaks the truth.

Oh and as for NZ, they were offered to become a state of Australia but turned it down to be a backwater of the world. Ecologically sound, but regressive nonetheless.

NZ need to quit sending their offshoots to hang off our welfare. Abos are pathetically protected in society to the point where they don't need to work and are on the whole unproductive members of society. The govt should offer greater opportunity to aboriginals, not a blank Centrelink cheque.

Any comments about Tasmania, seeing as how the national Australian tourist board seems to be posting here? There's a place I though of going to when over in NZ/Aussie land.

By the way, all the surfer's I meant in SoCal, from Australia, said that the Foster's beer imported to the U.S. taste like kangaroo piss. Agree with that, though never have drank roo piss. Have some pretty good wines imported here. Excellent movies, directors and actors also.

One of the best cult movies was Mad Max(original) and Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior). Have to watch them a little buzzed. Adds to the effects.

Thunderdome was cool and all that but maybe a little too big budgeted Hollywood for me. Liked better the original raw, and somewhat crude,  Mad Max Indie (some parts had to be dubbed for American audiences...Aussie you know). Than the follow up Max 2/Road Warrior...excellent film making.  Prefer the originals mostly. As First Blood was followed by the Rambo series. Or the original Rocky and later films.  Indies can be the life blood of Hollywood in a way.
