There is an increasing trend of figure competitors crossing over to BB, and I couldn't be happier about it!
2007 in particular was the Year of the Crossover.
I hope this trend continues. A lot of these crossovers have a tremendous amount of potential to be successful and to shape the future direction of women's BB.

First mention has to go to Beni Lopez. Beni competed at the 2007 North Americans in figure. She then crossed over to BB for the 2007 Nationals, won the class, and earned her Pro Card in her first national competition as a bodybuilder. 8)

Also, i would like to know why figure/bb girls dont use any GOOD techno/trance tunes instead they use shitty songs. I think (as example) that a good exhibition with pvd - for an angel would be the perfect mix for a great exhibition, maybe the girl should pose a bit faster but yeah, it would be awesome!

I actually thought about using some house music for my BB routine, but it's hard to find something suitable for BB posing. Trance wouldn't work very well, I don't think. There's a lot more techno/house music in fitness routines than in BB routines. You need some nice slow beats and pauses for posing.

Jodi Miller is another successful crossover. She competed in figure for several years and made the permanent switch to BB in 2007.

I actually thought about using some house music for my BB routine, but it's hard to find something suitable for BB posing. Trance wouldn't work very well, I don't think. I did the crossover too. I hate most of my figure pics, but here they are. At least I made use of the two piece again when I switched to BB! ;D

2007 pics are way better. Your hair @ pics from 2006 is horrible same for your bikini.
You recovered in 2007, but you should have used a colaless. You dont seem to train your arms a lot do you?

It wasn't THAT bad! My biggest problem that day is that I got attacked by one of the girls backstage who did the color and oil-ups, etc, and she completely COVERED ME with Pam. I was a greasy mess by the time I got on stage, including my hair! >:(
The hair looked OK till it was sprayed with cooking oil.
So a colaless is a thong? They are not allowed in US competitions, but they are in a lot of other countries.

I used PAM that day, but I had no choice. I wasn't gonna use anything at all (notice how I have no oil on in the first figure pic), but the girl just came over and started spraying it all over me right as we were lining up for prejudging. I was like WTF! She was like "you can't go out there without any oil on." It was literally dripping down my legs.

One more for today, so that we can get past the PAM disaster (I also did some stupid potassium loading thing the day before, which totally backfired on me, but that's another story ::))....
This is one of my favorite crossovers, Lisa Marie Bickels. I think she actually went from BB to figure and then back to BB.

Karen Zaremba is another Figure Pro who crossed over to BB in 2007. Her abs are out of this world, and her conditioning is crazy!!

Ugh, I will NEVER do Team U again because of the satan stage lighting! At least put a decent figure shot up there from the USA's :)
This year I am going to do an NGA show May 3rd in Peoria Illinois where I will hopeful;y win the overall and a Pro-Caed. Won my class last year and lost to overall (very derserving loss....) this year I will come in much much harder...
And then I will be doing the Junior USA's 2 weeks later which I am excited about mainly because I will get some kick ass stage shots, I have none from bbing.
Lisa is one of my fav bbers but she definitely started in bbing so I consider that cheating in this thread. I would love is Jamie Reed would cross over but her height may be a bit of an issue...I always wanted Jen Gates to cross over as well though her success as a tighter Figure girl is well deserved. Love her physique. Angel should cross over, actually there are lists of girls who should do it...
Just to gain a bit of my self respect back her are some much better, less satanic pictures of my figure days.

Those are from Team U 2006...the lighting in that place is BRUTAL! I'll blame the horrific pics of me on the ligthing at least in part...and the PAM incident of course!
I'm psyched to hear you're doing the Jr USAs...I wish I was gonna be there. Does this mean that you will already be dieting at the Arnold?
Can you compete in the Jr USAs if you win your NGA Pro Card? I think you can as long as you haven't won $ in the NGA.

This is Shona Pryce, she crossed over from figure to BB this year and will be one of our impact athletes with a great interview in our special Arnold issue. Impact athletes are new to the national level (one show maximum). We love Shona's look, and think she could have been successful in either figure or bodybuilding but are happy she has found a home ... she will not be competing at the Arnold Amateur but will be on stage at USA's ready to turn some heads.

That was at the 2006 New England Championships. My best figure showing for sure. My friend Renee Jalbert won the tall class, I won the short class and the overall.
I did my National Qualifier for BB and took second in the women's open BB at the Granite State Championships six days later. :)

I hear you guys, I guess I am just of the belief sometimes that the difference between figure and bodybuilding is less about size and more about shape and ratios. Therefore I think you can have really big, muscular figure competitors as long as delts are genetically capped well above the traps, the waist is small, and the quads create that important x-shape! In some cases I think figure is harder because you have to place critical limitations on your physique as you seek that "figure" refinement, while at the same time achieving size in certain areas.

Perhaps the ultimate crossover was Britt Miller. It's hard to believe she started out in Figure. I couldn't find very many pics of her in figure, but here are a couple.

She moved up to the LHW class in 2007 and placed second at Nationals. She'll be a Pro very soon. 8)

Thank you for including me in this thread! I tried my hardest to do well in figure and came so close (fifth place at the 2003 Figure Nationals and fourth place at the 2005 USA's), but close wasn't good enough. When I competed and won my class at the 2006 Europa and then at the 2007 Team Universe, I kept hearing from the judges that they liked me better as a bodybuilder.
I enjoyed it more too.
I think it's difficult for the shorter competitors with thicker quads and narrower shoulder structure to do well in figure. Figure seems to be more dependent upon a good bone structure and genetic base upon which to build muscle and create a Y-shape, and bodybuilding relies more heavily on the muscle structure itself to create a true X-frame. Once I came to terms with my physique's weaknesses and understood its strengths, I was able to take off my heels and walk off the figure stage and return barefoot with display of double biceps.
I am still trying to decide what show to do next. I've made the decision to remain off of the stage for a full year, so late Fall this year or mid Spring next year will be the earliest that I'll return to the stage. But I guarantee it will be bodybuilding. It's too much fun to walk away from.
Lisa Bickels and Britt Miller both looked phenomenal as bodybuilders, and I was very pleased to see Beni win the lightweight class here in Dallas at the Nationals. It was a terrific look without going overboard with being too dry, too depleted, nor too big. And Karen Zaremba is just adorable as a bodybuilder! I would love to see her stick with it and just keep bringing a look that works for her...tiny and shredded!
The following are a few images from the World Championships. I was too little, too flat, too soft for the competition (most girls outweighed me by a good eight to ten pounds minimum, and traveling from Texas to New York to Barcelona and then hopping onto the stage the next day is tough), but I wouldn't have traded the experience nor the look I brought to Spain for the world.

Women's bodybuilding definitely got a boost in the last two years IMO, with all the good crossovers from figure. I'm looking forward to standing next to you on stage one of these days! :)

Will she be competing as a LW or a MW? Not that I'll be at the USAs, but if she goes to Nationals, I'll need to know this. ;D
