Healthy Breakfast Shake Ideas?
« on: October 23, 2012, 06:55:24 AM »
Anyone have a good shake recipe that tastes good, supplies decent protein, lowers cholesterol (possibly [I think cinnamon has been purported to help]) and is healthy?

Thanks nutrition gurus.

Alcohol negates OJ benefits.  ;)

I've posed my favorite shake many time before ~ no cinnamon tho.

Frozen strawberries
Protein powder (vanilla)
peanut butter
cooked oatmeal
sweetener of choice
blender
Water or ice to get desired consistency
Macros to desired levels

Cut up overripe bananas into 1/2 inch pieces and put them in a Tupperware dish and keep in the freezer.  When it's time for a shake, just drop in a few frozen banana slices into the blender along with a cup of regular milk or almond milk, your protein powder, and blend.  Tastes like a banana milkshake and it's simple and fast.  You could also add a tablespoon of ground flax seed for fiber if you like.

I love it; very old-school!!

I occasionally do this, but I add about three scoops of protein powder - minus the cinnamon, which I may now try. I add the contents to a large bowl & use a whisk to hand-blend it into a pudding-like consistency.

And, it tastes surprisingly good. I divide the contents into two Tupperware containers and eat them at different times to avoid gastric upset.

I can handle just the eggs and dairy in one sitting, but the added powder gives me hellaciously lethal gas.

WOOO, is the cream alright if the person has high cholesterol?  And what about using pasturized egg whites?  No additional sweetner needed?

Rudee's shake sounds good.

Armani..do you blend those together w/water?

Yes, about one cup of water, splenda, whey and then one half cup of fiber one (maybe a full cup depending on how thick you like it).  Get your fiber intake for the day out of the way and some good pre-workout slow burning carbs in the process.

I'm not a doctor. But absolutely. For most people lots of saturated fat improves the lipid profile.

FYI - L puts peanut butter on/in EVERYTHING!
Apples, Oreos, chicken soup...
She even puts peanut butter on her peanut butter.

This is true, except for the Oreos part.

Just a smidge ~ 1/2 tablespoon per shake.  Just try it

We used to add peanut butter (maybe 6-8 "smidges") to the original Met-Rx shakes back in college. Man, that stuff tasted good, and we GREW on that formula!
