Frank Mir Critical of Kimbo Slice as a MMA Fighter
« on: September 17, 2008, 02:06:45 PM »
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is one of the classiest fighters in MMA but has choice words for fellow MMA fighter Kimbo Slice. In a recent interview, Mir uses “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, which happens to premiere tonight after UFC Fight Night 15, as an example of how the sport should be portrayed by saying, “by having the cameras in the house it acts as sort of a window into the real lives of the people who take the sport seriously”.
“Every time Kimbo fights it sets the sport back. Guys like that just reinforce the idea in the public’s eye that we are all blood thirsty barbarians who just want to pummel each other and that there is no skill required.” Mir goes on to say in the FiveOuncesofPain interview.

Mir is obviously talking about Slice’s previous fights on YouTube and that it proves the point for those who still think that MMA is too violent.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a UFC employee is knocking Slice as this isn’t the first time. UFC President Dana White and former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell have voiced their opinion in the past.

Slice is nothing more than a black version of tank Abbott, and Dana was more than willing (back in the day) to promote Abbott to sell tickets....

at this point it's almost insulting MMA fans intelligenge for these guys to keep repeating how unqualified Slice probably is to be making the money he is...

we all know it......we're all gettin tired of hearing it !

Geo if you read some of the threads on here you will see that some MMA fans believe Kimbo is a good fighter and worthy of all the praise that he has been getting.

Delusion is quite common on most boards on this site, why should the MMA board be at different 8)

Honestly, most people are haters even though he's a bum.  But the fact is, he's in it for the money, nothing else and he's getting paid while most of America is in a panic attack about a recesion.  People in this country still can't let a black man come from the ghetto and make a pay check unless they play ball.  I'm white so I can say this because I know how people around me talk.  I've said some trash about him too but i'm done, let the man be...it's a free country and sooner or later he'll be good or gone...

Bullshit, he's being "hated on" because he acts like a fuckin gorilla, running around flapping his gums about how he can beat down anyone. As soon as he gets some decent competition and wins, then people will take him seriously, until then he should keep his challenges to himself.

Once he quits getting paid he will lose and that is when everyone gets tired of him beating cans.... Once the public demands decent comp. against him and he losses Kimbo will be gone, but I aint mad at him for getting paid.

In all seriousness, once Kimbo gets exposed, the hype will go away and whatever money he's made will blown on "bling bling", leased Bentley, skanky white whores and multi million dollar "playa crib".  It won't be long before he's living in an underpass scratching lottery tickets....

This is where I will have to disagree. I do know that he has that big ass Gold hand, but I think he got that when he was doing security for the porn guys. I think that Kimbo knows that his shot of fame won't be forever. I think he is smart enough to keep that cash. The guy was homeless once before and I would hope he is putting some cash under the matress. He has kids I think and would hope that he understands that right now he is big, but will be nothing when people realize he is being "protected."

I don't hate the guy, I give him props from going from BUM to STAR. I just hate how so many people think he is a skilled fighter. He is a can, being fed even bigger cans. If Shamrock beats him, then he will then probally be fed a big huge draw fight and after that he will be a has been.

I didn't want to go there, but that is how most black people act anyway, so basically that's what I was referring to...

I think Pro Elite will try and ride the Kimbo train until he is forced to fight someone credible, then the 15 minutes of fame will be over.

with the National exposure he got last time out his 15 minutes are already up....

I think now it's just a matter of fulfilling the fights he has left on his contract, the problem is it'll only take one win (against whoever) for the "kimbo-ites" to come back and start woofin again...

he is what he is.......a borderline circus act !

People who train and who actually have followed the sport can't quit talking about how big of a joke he is and can't figure out why he is being made such a big deal. All the while people with no clue think he is a bad ass because he knocked out a couple of fat dudes who couldn't beat there way out of a wet paper bag. I don't hate the guy, but I do think all this talk and hype could be spent on someone who has a ton of talent. I was impressed as all hell with Guida's performance last night and think he did a damn good job, but will you hear anything about that all over the net HELL NO! I think Houston Alexander and Kimbo are on the same page, they have great stories and good for them. (Being serious, I;m not mad at em) Yet because of some back yard brawls ESPN does a story on Kimbo yet only UFC fans know about Houston while America knows who Kimbo is. I just don't think he is good enough to get all the hype that follows him.

I'm neutral on Kimbo. Translated - I' don't pay much attention to the media antics and all the hype built around him.

I will however give him credit for a brilliant marketing move that catapulted him into a public spotlight. There are plenty of very talented fighters struggling to make a living and fighting in small shows for peanuts waiting for that big break which may never come.  As for his skills - I doubt he's as horrible as most people make him out to be since Bas Rutten has taken an interest in training him. I doubt Bas would waste his time training someone who has no potential. Anyway time will tell  -  once Kimbo starts getting tested by more skilled fighters. I'll reserve my comments until then
