goddamn! shit! fuck!
i've only been able to get 5-6 hours of sleep each night for the past 6 weeks or so, and i'm fucking pissed about it, coz i firmly believe that 7-8 is ideal >:( >:( >:(
any sleep experts here that can shed some light on the ideal amount of sleep needed per night?
-
If you feel fine, then it is fine. Some people need their 8h or more, some don't.

No no, that's what I've read from sleep experts. I have sleep issues myself :P
-
There's no set ideal amount of sleep. What is restful for one person isn't for another. You feel you're getting too little, then maybe you are. There are lots of tips out there for ensuring a better night's sleep; do some searching.
-
Depends on you - sleep "around" and see how 5,6,7,8,9
whores hours feel like and where the sweet spot is.
I've slept from 6 to 15 hours and I believe in the 7-8 range... it's like with reps, anything goes but not really.
Absolute optimum would be added naps after food intake.
-
7.5 to 8.5 works best for me. I can only sleep 6, then I wake up hungry, stay up an hour, then crash again for another 1-2 hours when schedule allows.
-
"The first thing experts will tell you about sleep is that there is no "magic number." Not only do different age groups need different amounts of sleep, but sleep needs are also individual. Just like any other characteristics you are born with, the amount of sleep you need to function best may be different for you than for someone who is of the same age and gender. While you may be at your absolute best sleeping seven hours a night, someone else may clearly need nine hours to have a happy, productive life."

but almost ALL "bodybuilding experts" agree that AT LEAST 7 hours are needed MINIMUM
and in fact, some even say that 10 hours is OPTIMUM :-\

Well you put them between "" so you already know what's up ;)
-
I have to add that research says oversleeping, and oversleeping started at 8h+, is actually harmful, as in dying sooner among things.
-
i get a good 7 hours of sleep a night.
just avoid caffeine and sugars late in the day and have some warm milk, it takes a while to settle in but when it does its worth it.

Doesn't matter,he needs to ask 1,000 questions about it but not do anything about it.

"Death. Multiple studies have found that people who sleep nine or more hours a night have significantly higher death rates than people sleeping seven to eight hours a night. No specific reason for this correlation has been determined. But researchers found that depression and low socioeconomic status are also associated with longer sleep. They speculate these factors could be related to the observed increase in mortality for people who sleep too much."

most studies have shown that less than 7 hours of sleep per day increases the risk of an earlier death overall
i do not sleep much either but force myself to get 50-60 hours per week no matter what... often i make up time on the weekend with a couple of naps

Anything less than 6 and i feel like shit. Anything more than 9 and i feel like shit. Also i try to go to sleep and wake up at the same range every night. Typically i'm asleep by 10:30pm and i wake up at 5:30 automatically. I don't even set an alarm anymore. 7-8 hours and i feel perfect in the morning.

i dont have problems with sleeping.

With good HGH, you actually get better quality sleep. So 4-5 hours you wake up feeling amazing. Ronnie Coleman only slept a few hours but with cadaver HGH those few are priceless.

The only valid answer here is, 5 to 8 hours each day, where in that range you fall is all about personal preference 8)
-
A lot of sociopaths can get away with 3 or 4 hours a night and a 20 or 30minute nap during the day.
-
6 hours minimum less I feel like shit the next day.
-
Eight is great

I've always lived by 3 rules:
Never get less than 12 hours sleep
Never play poker with someone who has the same first name as a state
Never expect a comedian to be legitimately funny
I see no reason to start breaking them now

nope... most research suggests that an afternoon or evening nap + a good night's sleep is preferable for most people rather than being in bed for 8+ hours at a time
-
Ben Franklin only slept in 15-minute intervals.
He was a very successful man but was also a fat.

wrong
If you have trouble sleeping at night, go to bed when you are sufficiently sleepy, wake up at the same time EVERY morning, and take no naps.

5-6 hrs for me is enough, and i work overtime on construction time, commute 1 hr 1 way to work and work 6 days a week.
however, the 7th day i need to absolutely rest and eat only or id burn out
Same here. Working tomorrow, again.

if you train with intensity and weigh over 250 you probably need 9 hours of sleep a night

My late grandfather never slept more than 4 or 5 hours a night. He wasn't a weight trainer but did physical work. He died at 95.
But I think he was one the few exceptions to the 6-9 hrs rule
