I have a friend from back in high school who may be the ultimate KISS fan.  He and his wife go on the KISS Kruise every year and he's on a first-name basis with all the guys in the band.  He also claims his fave KISS album is The Elder.  But I kind of wonder if he just says that to prove to the world how hardcore of a fan he is.

Can't really endorse anything after Animalize, probably ('84), but Alive is fantastic. Probably the best live rock record I own. Alive II's pretty damn good, too, as well as the studio stuff leading up.

Wheels came off in the 80s, trying to compete with the younger hair bands and such. Some truly embarrassing stuff, no way around it. Churning out garbage ever since.

Based on that I watched this 6/10 documentary - well it is taped from VH1!, but good enough for someone like me who knew/knows nothing about them...

Spoiler:  the album wasn't exactly 'live'...

Not even close. Are any, though?

No way, but Kiss fans are an odd bunch.

True test is where you stand on buffoonery like "I Just Wanna" and "Uh! All Night," which are empirically demonstrable dogshit. There was a study.

Best and favorite are 2 different things. Best is probably Queen or David Bowie. Favorite is probably Led Zeppelin.

I kind of got Zeppelin'ed out as a teen.  They're great of course, but for me at least they're played out.

My wife and I caught the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan a couple of Sundays ago.  The Doobies' vocal harmonies and musicianship were impeccably on-point.  And Steely Dan (sans Walter Becker, RIP), of course you know their performance was as tight as should be expected.

They’re  OK. I wouldn’t put them in the league  with the truly great southern rock bands.

Skynyrd
Allman Bros
Marshall Tucker
Outlaws

Next tier

Molly Hatchet
Blackfoot
38 Special
black berry smoke seems to be trying to keep the southern rock tradition alive..

I'm a bit out of my depth in a Rock thread, but I've found myself listening to these guys - live performances only, mind you - many, many times since I 'found' them last year.  I put 'found' in quotes as I'm sure that as usual everyone else in the world was there before me...

1970

one of the best live albums ever..

Some of the greatest bands to ever exists are bands I rarely listen to for that reason. Great songs but I listened to them so much over the decades I end up changing  the station when they come on. Much of Boston, Zep, Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Doobies , Stones, Springsteen. Sometimes it depends on the location I'm at when I hear them.

Same for pretty much all those artists.

EXCEPT a few songs I could listen to every day and never get sick of:

Allman Brothers - Midnight Rider
ZZ Top - Any of their stanky, nasty, dirty blues tunes, e.g., Blue Jean Blues, Fool For Your Stockings, Ten Foot Pole, Jesus Just Left Chicago, pretty much all their good stuff pre- and post-Eliminator.  Nobody plays the blues like the Reverend Willie G.
Bad Co. - Silver, Blue and Gold

We could make a whole other thread about songs you never get sick of hearing.

It’s really hard to deny that the 70s was the best decade of music ever. You can even add a few to that list, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, and, IMO, the greatest progressive rock band ever: Yes.

most of pop culture peaked in the 70s. cinema, boxing, bodybuilding, humor, music, muscle cars (peaked in 60's but had a few holdovers) television was way more fun.

No. Best for metal, probably, maybe pop. Not rock.

70s is arguably the best, and the 90s makes the best argument. 90s is MY best, without question.
