I use corporal punishment with my kids.  Started when they very young and eased up as they got older.  I hardly ever spank them now.  I reserve it for the two things I emphasize the most:  respect and honesty.

We adopted an approach recommended by child psychologist John Rosemond:  only on the butt, only with your hand, no more than three swats.  It helps you control yourself and draws a distinct line between a spanking and a beating.

Spanking helped enforce all of the other lesser forms of punishment.  The kids knew (and know) that they must comply with something like "time out," or they will face the supreme sanction.   :)

Regarding hitting women, I have to assume you were joking.  Any man who hits a woman is a punk and should be locked up.
