My back has been locked for a week now
« on: March 20, 2009, 07:25:46 AM »
I'm starting to freak out. I jumped from a somewhat high wall last saturday, i thought it was fine and continued running. Couple of hours later my back was a lil stiff, nothing serious. So i thought i strained the lower back muscles a bit.

Next day i rested, a little more stiff though. No real pain, but can't sit in a chair with the muscles locking up, or bend over (hard to put on socks).
Kept getting worse till last wednesday i could hardly stand up. Starting taking ibuprofen 2400 mg a day. Been getting a bit better, but nowhere near normal.

I'm getting worried. I called my dad who's a doc and he told me to wait a bit. Fact is, i can't do anything, i lay in my bed, watch some porn, some movies, cook, go for a walk. But my back isn't improving.
I'm abroad, so a little hesistant to go see somebody (i'm not covered here). Should i ride it out for a couple more days? It's almost a week now. I think some massages could help, but i wouldn't know where to go.

Only place i know is an arab bath house where i can go swim in some really hot pool and get a 15 min massage? A bit of a walk to get there though. Should i try this?

I've had a similar thing a year ago after doing some garden work and it lasted longer than a week i think.

I'm sorry for my ramblings. I've got too much time to think and can't really talk to anybody, it's driving me crazy.

Any input would be appreaciated, even if it's only to tell me to stop whining.

Should i do some stretches or anything? This is all new to me, never had a serious injury before  :-\

If you had a similar thing a while ago and it lasted over a week I think you should calm down some....but I know back injuries can be scary.

Yes, I would get a massage but I would check the place out first....and I would try to get an hour massage, not 15 min....but I think some would be better than none.

Maybe call your dad again and ask about the massage.

Get well soon Faust!

Alright, it's getting a bit better. I can sit on a chair now already for like 10 mins. Tying my laces is a challenge though.

Monday i hope to be back in action.

Thanks stella for the kind words.

 :) !

I hope being "back in action" doesn't mean you will be working out hard again.  I think you def. need to rest your back till it feels fully recovered.

Hope you are 100% soon!

Are you saying i shouldn't do deadlifts on monday?  :-[
 ;)

Nah, I'm happy if i can have a "normal" life again, instead of laying in bed for the whole day.

Alright, 1,5 weeks now and i'm doing normal stuff.
Yesterday i went to the gym, did some pullups and db curls.

Back isn't improving much though, it's going VERY slow.
I backed off the ibuprofen (advil) a bit.

Did some research on the internet, there it said for subacute back pain it can take up to 4 weeks to get completely better. Apparently there isn't that much you can do about it (or doctors). Just give it time.
Sucks that i still cramp up after sitting, but at least i can have a somewhat normal life, even though it hurts/gets stiff.
