Subject - Press Release: Mens Pro and Amateur Figure Division

So I just read the release from the powers that be about the new division…. Men’s Figure.

I for one am so happy to see that the federation has stepped up and introduced this division. They are now giving us that are not as “genetically” blessed as guys like Ronnie and Jay, the opportunity to get on stage and be seen.

I for one plan on taking advantage of this opportunity.

Presentation Round

During this round, judges are assessing the overall physique for degree of athleticism, proportion and skin tone as well as stage presence. The judges will be scoring the degree of athleticism by assessing the degree of firmness, symmetry, proportion and the overall physical appearance including complexion, poise and overall presentation.

Presentation is the display of all muscle groups with emphasis on the male competitors most developed and defined areas, by means of poses showing muscular development and aesthetic lines joined together by transition poses which show both grace and poise while maintaining masculinity.

Competitors attire will consist of single or multicolored running shorts and tennis shoes. Length of shorts is self determined but the competitor must take into account the judging will be based on muscularity and overall appearance of fitness. Stoning or decoration of attire is acceptable, but not recommended as it is distracting to the physique.

Each pose displaying muscular development should emphasize one or more muscle groups and must be held momentarily in order for a judge to assess properly. If the pose is not held it should be considered a transition move.

A transition is the poised movement from one pose to another pose. Dance may influence this portion of the posing since transitions involve the physique in motion.

Poses will consist of 5 mandatory turns similar to that seen in women's figure but with more emphasis on muscularity as well as artistic and fluid transitions.

Men will start out facing forward in a front pose with arms at the side. They will 1/4 turn to the left and place one hand on thigh and one hand overhead in any manner that accentuates their physique. Another 1/4 turn will place them facing rearward where they are to display both arms overhead in any artistic movement they like. Another 1/4 turn will be the mirror opposite of pose two. Another 1/8 turn will then put them into a pose similar to a relaxed pose, but self directed with no restrictions other than their foot positioning must be 1/8 turn.

Compulsory Round

During this round the competitor will be judged on style, personality, athletic coordination, strength moves, endurance, originality and overall performance. Competitor should give special attention to their apparel since it too will be judged. Routines may include aerobics, dance, gymnastics or other demonstrations of athletic talent, but there are no required movements. Props are allowed, but must be approved by the Head Judge in advance. While competitors attire is self directed in this round, G-Strings and Thongs are discouraged but not prohibited.

In this round the competitors perform their own, carefully designed free posing routine. Any style of music may be used, with at least two music changes. Length of routine is not to exceed 1 minute 30 seconds.

Classes

Given the overwhelming interest we have received there will be three height classes for the Amateurs and two height classes for Pro. Promoters and head judges may at their own discretion adjust the amount of classes for Amateur competitions up to 5 for shows where numbers would be unmanageable with three height classes.

Amateur:
Short - Up to and including 5'9"
Middle - Over 5'9" up to and including 6'
Tall - Over 6'

Given the attire worn, there will be weight limitations. Limitation for Short 200lbs, Middle 255lbs, Tall is 275lbs

Pro Status

While there are no Pro competitors at this time, the sanctioning body will be appointing several individuals in each region who have displayed interest and ability as well as knowledge of the sport. Names of invited Pros will be released April 7th, 2008. Those who have applied or inquired should have already received their notifications.

Pro status will be offered at the first 8 shows of the season to the overall winner and runner's up.

Nice April Fool's joke.  ;D

That said, we will eventually see a division for guys who can't cut it in don't want to do bodybuilding, but it's not going to be called 'figure'.

they already have it outside the US.  There is Classic Bodybuilding, and Athletic Physique.  Both have height/weight ratio requirements.   Also outside the US there is often a set of classes between the Novice class and the Open class.    Many orgs have men's fitness as well.

(I think the IFBB pro league should mandate some aerobic routines be part of the prejudging.  those who don't faint get to go on to the evening show)
